Didn’t Ewan McGregor do a “costume test” or something the other day at the volume? What if that was just a cover story? I wonder if he could appear as some sort of holocron recording from the Jedi archives or something?

I don’t think everything has to be connected, or should be, and I get that people liked how the first season was mostly separate from the rest of Star Wars, but it’s inevitable that we’re going to bump into some connections along the way. I don’t think they will take over the story though. We are still following our main characters. Cameos are just enriching the experience.

In 9 ABY, we’re not that far off from The First Order forming. I don’t know how many jars of Snoke fails they went through before they got a functional one, and I thought all that would have been done on Exegol, but I wouldn’t think it too strange to find a Snoke in a jar in the back of an Imperial base years after the fall of the Empire, knowing what we know now. Just because we see a hint of something from another story, doesn’t mean it has to be anything more than that. I doubt Gideon’s plan has anything to do with the Sith on Exegol and everything to do with those troopers on the walls.

I’m absolutely loving all this Star Wars talk. Everyone has so many ideas and none of us know anything. Brings back memories of how sure I was that Vader was lying about being Luke’s father. I mean, there’s no way Obi-Wan would mislead Luke, right?

What Gideon Wants with the Child in The Mandalorian
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NVZbDBZKqSE - from the Star Wars Explained YouTube channel (9 mins long).

Some interesting ideas about what might be Gideon’s motivation. I really like the idea that he’s a bit like Krennic from RO and that he’s a minor Moff that through unforeseen circumstances has ended up in a position of power and that now he’s basically trying to make himself the new Vader/Palpatine. Which makes a lot of sense for someone who wears dark armor, a dark cape like Vader, and even has a lightsaber…and there’s the theory that the Force experiments are at least partially about him trying to become Force-sensitive.

Also, and alternatively, since there’s been a lot of discussion about what the new canon Darktroopers might be like, they don’t have to be stormtrooper battle droids like the Dark Forces game, there were Force-empowered stormtroopers in Dark Empire that just so happened to have the same name.

Many of my fondest Star Wars memories are guessing what will happen next, even though I’m hardly ever right. Star Wars is imagination fuel.

Just hopping on this thread to show some love for the Star Wars vehicles transferred from animation to live action…

(I know this one is based more on the original Imperial Troop Transporter Kenner toy than the version from SW Rebels, but still counts in my book)

This lovely shot of the Arquitens really gave me 2001: A Space Odyssey vibes. Reminds me of the long, ominous, low angle shot of Discovery 1 with the sad music.

Also, @ScoutTheTrooper on twitter pointed out that the Arquitens class cruiser in Chapter 12 is bigger than the one from Star Wars Rebels and The Clone Wars. The bridge is a few times larger, and the Mando version seems to have its own hanger, judging from the episode and this Topps promotional card:

The Gozanti cruiser seems to be a different model too, or it’s at least modified.

Well it has been years since Rebels in-universe, I don’t see why they couldn’t have modified some of the Arquitens cruisers in the meantime. And there are already a ton of Gozanti variants in Clone Wars and Rebels.

I was re-watching Chapter 9, and I noticed that Din is wearing his ep. 1-3 armor in one of the concept art pieces instead of his beskar armor. Makes me wonder if the Krayt Dragon plot was might have been repurposed from a rejected season 1 plot, or maybe, as was the case with TFA, they just commissioned the concept artists to just come up with random SW stuff while Favreau was writing the first few episodes to serve as inspiration.

He’s wearing the old armor in this piece as well, which definitely seems like something an artist would randomly draw/paint to simply establish the vibe of a new SW show. They’re both by the same person as well.

Apparently there are already major spoilers for chapter 13 leaked, and they could start circulating round the internet before Friday. To anyone on social media, might be a good idea to start staying off it early (I am).

In my time on OT, I don’t think I’ve encountered anyone terrible enough to post a leaked plot point on here, but if you’re reading this and you’ve heard something… don’t post it before Friday, please. For the record I don’t know what the spoilers are, I’ve just seen a tweet passing on this advice.

I don’t think those leaks are actually true. I checked the Star Wars Leaks subreddit, which is typically a reliable source of info, and they say the leaks are fake.

Said leaks were a 100% accurate actually.

I know this phrase seems to get thrown about a lot, but the latest episode is already one of my favourites of the whole series. I was initially a little bit skeptical about Dawson playing Ahsoka, but after seeing her in just a few scenes I think she managed to translate Ahsoka’s mannerisms quite perfectly (1st scene shows a slightly different side of the character than we’re used to, so that threw me off a little at first). I also think the character, like Bo-Katan, was handled in such a way that it should work for new fans as well and not just Clone Wars & Rebels fans.

Show far this show has appropriately had a very strong Western vibe to it, which obviously makes sense for the character, and this episode was all Samurai film (which is quite appropriate for Ahsoka) and I loved it. There were several shots taken straight out of Kurosawa’s Yojimbo, which of course inspired the spaghetti westerns, so the combined aesthetic for this episode was just perfect. I’m actually really impressed by how Filoni has grown as a live-action director in just three episodes. I’m somewhat in the minority in that Chapter 1 is one of my lest favourite episodes, now I do it’s good, and did Filoni a great as a debut director, but it felt a bit bland to me. Chapter 5 was better stylistically, though the plot was quite simple. This episode however, was all Filoni, and it shows. It really was like seeing one of the best episodes of Clone Wars or Rebels translated to live action.

SPOILER

The Thrawn reveal was quite surprising. On one hand I’m super excited as Thrawn is quite literally my favourite EU character. On the other hand I’m always a bit skeptical this this show is going to turn into an endless string of EU cameos. However, Favreau/Filoni has handled both Bo-Katan and Ahsoka perfectly so far, so I do believe they can pull it off. Though this could of course simply be a hint of another series, possibly an animated sequel to Rebels. However, if they end up making a live-action Thrawn, I really hope they get Lars Mikkelsen. He’s already voiced the character perfectly, and he has a face that really first the character. With some minor prosthetics I think he’d make a great live-action Thrawn just like Sackhoff made a great live-action Bo-Katan.

Overall great episode. It really captured the samurai mystic feel of the Jedi from the OT and I thought Ashoka was portrayed very faithfully by Dawson.
I’m happy the episode ended with Mando and Ashoka going their own ways. I had feared her story would take the spotlight away from Mando. But it seems like her journey will branch off into another show, perhaps the one Leslye Headland is in charge of.

However.

I thought it was a misstep to reveal Ashoka right out of the gate. For me, it kinda killed the dramatic build up that was set up in the previous episodes. The story would have been more interesting had we started off with Mando landing on Corvis, with us being introduced to Ashoka along with Mando.

But it’s nothing that can’t be changed in a fan-edit 😉

Jedit: since Ezra is presumably in the unknown regions at this point, I think it’s more likely that Luke will be the Jedi that shows up on Tython, perhaps setting up his own spin off show…

I think both Captain Marvel and especially The Irishman has proved that de-aging technology has reached a point where even a streaming series could convincingly de-age Mark Hamill enough to at least give him a short appearance in The Mandalorian. But…if Giancarlo Esposito’s statement about the show being 4 seasons long turns out to be correct then I don’t think anything like this is likely to happen in this season.

Not too sure how I feel about the possibility of Headland’s new show covering Ahsoka, Ezra, etc. I don’t really know anything about her prior work, so I’ll reserve judgment until we get more proper info on what her show is really about. But if we do get some kind of live-action sequel to Rebels then I definitely think it should be done by Filoni, and not anyone else. And at this point I think he has more than proven that he’s capable of doing his own live-action series. It wouldn’t surprise me if having Filoni on The Mandalorian was partially treated as a bit of a test by the higher-ups at Lucasfilm/Disney to see how he would handle the “upgrade” live action.

According to the trades, Headland’s show is set in an unvisited time and place in the galaxy, and will follow a female lead - with a lot of martial arts involved. My bet is that it will follow Ashoka in the unknown regions, with Headland show running and Filoni co-writing and directing.

The child’s name is a little silly, don’t you think?

Han: Hey Lando! You kept your promise, right? Not a scratch?
Lando: Well, what’s left of her isn’t scratched. All the scratched parts got knocked off along the way.
Han (exasperated): Knocked off?!

I was hoping Hedland’s series would be Doctor Aphra, but now I want more live-action Ahsoka. So much better than I expected.

They built up her appearance over a few episodes, then just went all out in this one. I think Favreau and Filoni are amazing storytellers. Star Wars is in great hands.

I was even more impressed with Ahsoka fighting in live-action than I was with Vader’s hallway scene in Rogue One.

I wonder who got Grogu (spelling?) out of the Jedi temple and what happened to them? Star Wars is a never-ending source of stories to tell.
