It’s a car!! I really want to know more about how this shot was created now!
I love how Mandalorian gave those canisters some in-world purpose. 😉
Glad to hear you’ve been enjoying the show! I take it you’ve finished the season?
Oh yeah. This is my 2nd go through. Watched on D+ during my free month!

I loved seeing that in the theater. I called out, “It looks like shit!” 😀
o_O
I meant because they didn’t spruce it up, but left it authentically 1977 CGI.
It’s a car!!
Is it? I ain’t see nothing. 😐

That has to be a joke from Topps’ part to make card from exactly that frame.
And in the time of greatest despair, there shall come a savior, and he shall be known as the Son of the Suns.

Yeah, the interior shot of the officers jumping away from the explosion. The thing crashing in through the window is very obviously a car. The Topps card shows the front bumper and wheel clearly. Watch the gif closely. Once you see it you can’t miss it. I even checked the actual movie just to be sure this wasn’t some joke, and it’s not! They crashed a car through something as part of the effects for that composite.
Or it’s a ILM inside joke like the alleged potato in the ESB asteroid field and a shoe masquerading as rebel ship in the DSII battle?
Where were you in '77?
a car, for sure. It flips as it goes through the windows & you mostly see the bottom of it as it crashes through the set.
It’s not a car. For a start, a car would have destroyed the set and yet the windows are still intact at the end of the shot. Whatever it is has been superimposed after the scene was filmed. The object, along with an animated flash ( you can see the hand painted element around the officers hands in the first 2 pictures), has been slowed down by duplicating frames. Yet there are no duplicated frames with the on set footage, so this has to have been added after. And the object that people think are the car wheels, well that plays out at a normal framerate so is not part of that larger object.
The last couple frames do look more like the A-Wing.
I think the car is actually the bridge window support strut being knocked out by the impact.

It’s also weird how the spinning A-wing goes from clockwise to counterclockwise as it hits the window.
You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.

It is superimposed, which is why it doesn’t actually crash through anything, but I still see a car flipped on it’s side. Like it hits one of those stunt flip-ramps at the beginning of the shot.
You guys are crazy! That is so OBVIOUSLY a car jumping one of those Hollywood “car flipper” half ramp things as it plows through some explosions. Yes it it’s composited into the shot (they probably didn’t want to destroy the set yet, or risk running over the actors). But it is ABSOLUTELY a big 70’s or 80’s style car crashing through those explosions! Plain as day! I’m flabbergasted that people are arguing it’s not! Lol. At least Ray gets it.
It does very much seem they flipped a car (or a stripped-down chassis of some variety) as part of that shot.
“That Darth Vader, man. Sure does love eating Jedi.”
I always thought it must have been recycled footage from a different project.
Seriously though, maybe it’s a simple matter of figuring out what film ILM had done around the same time or prior to ROTJ it could have come from?
Where were you in '77?
Objection, Your Honor! The car in that video is spinning clockwise relative to the normal front orientation. The car in the ROTJ effect above is spinning counterclockwise. QED that is not the same car!!! 😉
(nobody mention George Lucas’ “Professor of Flopology” hat from Temple of Doom)

This discussion reminds me of the open hatch on the Mllennium Falcon in Empire being a G.I. Joe in place of Lando when they’re rescuing Luke. Haha
Edit: It seems to be a white card according to the commentary.
“Heroes come in all sizes, and you don’t have to be a giant hero. You can be a very small hero. It’s just as important to understand that accepting self-responsibility for the things you do, having good manners, caring about other people - these are heroic acts. Everybody has the choice of being a hero or not being a hero every day of their lives.” - George Lucas
Rewatching 4K83 recently I suddenly noticed that a planet/moon can be spotted in the background when Vader’s shuttle approach the DSII in the first scene. I’m guessing this is either the planet Endor or another one of its moons.

I caught a showing of Empire at the drive in last weekend and never noticed before that when Chewie is choking Lando , there is a low growling in the rear channels that sounds like the growling of a vicious dog .
Watching one of the preview recently provided for 4K80 I noticed in the “Lando system” scene that Threepio, who’s shut off in the background, is not a stand-in puppet but actually Daniel’s in costume. Looking really closely I can see him shift slightly as he breathes. Seems kinda odd to have Daniels put on (or keep on) the costume only to have him sit still in the background, though this might have to do with the fact that as the Falcon detaches from the SD, the camera tilts a little and Ford and Fisher both move as if the cockpit itself actually tilts, and Threepio likewise shifts a bit in his seat.
I also noticed that a bit of the view out the cockpit is cut off in the next shot. At the far right of the cockpit windows, near Threepio’s head, there’s a black area where there should be more of the view of the SD and the space trash.

I haven’t seen SOLO (don’t particularly want to), so I can’t be sure, but I think THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK may be the only STAR WARS film not to have subtitles for alien languages?

Not the only one. Revenge of the Sith doesn’t have any, and neither does The Last Jedi.
In general, it seems like the movies trying to be more serious avoid subtitles for some reason.
My preferred Skywalker Saga experience:

The only line in EMPIRE that could use subtitles (Bossk) doesn’t get one.
