Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga 4k UHD -- 27 DISC Boxed Set -- 3/31/2020 — Page 9

No one’s arguing that Disney’s decisions are somehow more appealing, just that everyone should be pretty used to this by now, especially here.

No one’s saying “why are you frustrated” because everyone’s frustrated. We all know why.

Anyway, has anyone heard whether or not that blu-ray only Skywalker Saga set DEFINITELY has the 19 transfers, and not the 11?

I’m still not getting it, but it’d be nice to have the weird question from yesterday cleared up. It seems to me like people are confusing the single-disc blu-only release from months ago (which was a 2011-stock-clearing-exercise) as being part of the big push coming on Tuesday (which is newly produced product).

Imagine buying this shit only to find that you’re permanently stuck with “macklunkey” in 4K. Jesus

I was asking about the blu-ray only Skywalker Saga sets, not the 4K ones.

We know the 4K UHDs included in the 4K set are the '19 transfers
We know the blu-rays included in the 4K set are the '19 transfers
We know the single-film blu-ray discs are the '11 transfers (old stock released months ago)

What we don’t know is if the blu-ray only version of the 9-film Skywalker Saga set contains the '19 transfers or not.

It was assumed they would be those '19 transfers, right up until yesterday’s confusing tweets and “confirmations” that haven’t been followed up on, so far as I can find.

Lucasfilm seem to have adopted an attitude of silence when bringing out these releases.

There is no official information on there being any changes from previous versions that were available to buy - let alone what those changes are, and therefore what content we are actually paying a pretty penny for. They seem to expect people will just buy them because ‘Star Wars’ is on the fancy box.

The lack of information is far from helpful - and demonstates quite a lazy attitude on their part. Especially given some of the inane content they try and push on us that appears on the offical website and their other social media pages.

That there is little-to-nothing new for the Original Trilogy bonus discs (and for the Prequels too?) for this, the first ever release of the entire Star Wars ‘Skywalker’ Saga (quite an expensive set for the UHD/4K release), to me demonstrates they are treating the fans / customers with disdain - and little respect; for me they are doing the bare minimum as to the bonus material, and also the release itself.

They won’t be getting any money from me for this lazy release and attitude on their part - whether it is the 2011SE or 2019SE.

It is time for them to up their game.

It’s not lazy, it’s intentional. LFL or Disney for that matter does not knowledge that there are any other versions of their movies (anymore) but what they actually release.

Has anyone seen a weird 3D version of each seperate movie being advertised?

Like this

Author

That’s the first I’ve seen of it. I’m pretty sure it isn’t happening, and that’s probably a mistaken product placeholder that won’t ever get filled?

Home 3D’s been dead for years now, speaking of niches within niches. I can’t believe there are 3D conversions of all the movies done or pressed up on a commercially available disc there.

Really? I thought it was still a thing, like those sets that a Blu-Ray and a 3D disc packed in, and they always had the nicer box art. For example something like Avengers End Game was on there when I was browsing.

It seems that the USA have abandoned 3D blu-ray releases. But there is still 3D releases everywhere else, especially in Europe!

Han: Hey Lando! You kept your promise, right? Not a scratch?
Lando: Well, what’s left of her isn’t scratched. All the scratched parts got knocked off along the way.
Han (exasperated): Knocked off?!

George didn’t gaslight us like that.

Lucas has been gaslighting the fan base for 40 years. Nine films, six films, twelve films, never about Vader, always about Vader, Vader not the father, Vader always the father, Han shot in self defense, Leia was always the sister, “what I’d always planned”, “I just didn’t have the technology in 1980/1977/1983”, The Original Vision, commissioned two authors to each write a second film, the 1977 negatives are gone forever, films should never be altered, the director can alter, etc, etc, etc.

He built the franchise off of gaslighting the fan base and his constant lying created the fracturing that led to things like this very community.

Exactly.

George is the undisputed King of gaslighting. He genuinely hoped (wishes?) that people would have bought into all of his bullsh*t and believe the constant contradictory statements he makes. I believe he hoped way back in 1995 with the final VHS and Laserdisc release of the original cuts that he would be able to get away with nonchalantly suppressing the original versions of the trilogy forever and that people wouldn’t really care too much, but when that plan backfired along with the mixed critical reception of the prequels, he became deeply resentful and started screwing around with the films even more just as an exercise of power. He wanted to beat people over the head with “These are MY films, I will do whatever the hell I want with them!”. So many of the nonsensical changes made since 1997 suggest this. Fans and the media had backed him into a corner over the years with questions regarding the unaltered OT, which is the only reason he ever publicly spoke about there being any other versions besides the SE after '97.

Disney have had a lot of issues of their own in regards to their handling of this franchise, but to me nothing they have done warrants George being placed on any higher of a pedestal than them. They have both done a disservice to fans in many different ways.

Sorry if this has been stated elsewhere, but what does the color timing look like for the 4K prequel trilogy? Is it the same as the previous Blu-rays, or has it been changed? Thanks,

Apologies if anyone else commented on this previously, but I wonder if LFL/Disney intend to sit on the unreleased footage from Ep. IV etc. and the OT editions until the 50th anniversary of Star Wars?

It’s a horrible thought, but maybe they are already thinking ahead to 2027?

That’s when the 8K versions will be released so probably.

Also besides Greedo saying “Ma Klounkee” and a new sky on Tatooine, what are the other new changes done for the 19SE?

doubleofive did a trilogy of articles on the changes for the 2019 SE / Disney+ version of the Original Trilogy on ‘The Digital Bits’ website. They are linked below, along with some changes yotsuya has also found:-

Changes to the Disney+ 2019 SE of the Original Trilogy

and also in the 1st post of doubleofive’s fantastic Complete Comparison of Special Edition Visual Changes thread in the ‘Theatrical Cuts vs. Subsequent Releases’ forum; with more info on the various changes, including the 2019 SE, such as 13las’ great videos too.

doubleofive’s site - https://starwarsviscomp.wordpress.com, and his SWVC twitter - https://twitter.com/StarWarsVisComp are well worth a look at too.

The FE Renegades thread; from the people who post ‘go kill yourself’, ‘fuck you’, ‘let’s throw abuse’, and more at OT staff & members. Four years on and still throwing accusations, slurs and abuse at the OT & anyone outside their Salacious Crumb filled clique. + FE Discord “to vent” more at the OT. Wook’s take.

I’d be shocked if there was an 8K physical media format. It’s not even a guarantee that 8K TVs will become commonplace. I for one won’t be sitting 3 feet from a 100” TV so I can tell the difference.

I’m guessing there’s a dodgy HDR->SDR conversion going on there causing those odd colours? I hope we one day get a good, grainy transfer of TPM with decent colours.
