You might have better luck using the whole "Steady, Rogue 3" line from the audio drama. The current edit is a bit jarring. Unlike the "Blast it, Wedge" line from ANH, this is two very different deliveries we're talking about.

Just a thought on this I think i actually prefer the newer audio version of the audio edit but the "three" is the only word that needs altering.

how about a "three" from luke as in "3P0"

Perhaps worth a play and i keep thinking about garbage detention center either from star wars or radio drama... Even "steady wedge" wingman buddy would be appropriate "ok wedge....good shooting wedge audio would work perhaps

I think the nicest surprise in that clip is putting in the 2 speeders that swing in front of veers AT-AT windows in the previous shot it really binds the sequence together.

Really a top job I think has been done.... I guess ady means these will be real models filmed for these 2 speeders but I thought they look good anyway.

Absolutely Muddy i think the new clip really helps as you say the continuity and i really like it especially the new cockpit shot so glad that this horrible footage got replaced and i like the audio change to the "rogue 3" line a lot better.

Without being over critical i think the platform light for vaders hologram could be a little more white but i watched it on my phone as i am away at the moment.

And somone on facebook i thought made a good point about Dak and when we cut to luke there is no smoke behind him or any continuing sparks or tail end of sparks.

But Yeah it is massive improvement

don't forget the Dagobah swamp trees ;-)

with so much details added, ESB:R is the new vision of the "special edition"!

yeah and speeder flaps...

On this shot in the canyon obviously the tie fighters don't make it out they get destroyed but i wondered about if a few parts of destroyed tie fighter debris would fly out behind the falcon on fire or something?

But that is perhaps a tall order these ideas are easier to talk about than execute of course the idea came from the tie fighter shooting the rock and the particles... I was thinking of a way to keep that sort of thing going in the sequence

@bluecardinal

I always thought Vader was angry because he failed to convert Luke.

But since reading the script notes that was not the context and it is more about going after the Falcon. Or perhaps it is a bit of both but if it is because it is about going after the Falcon the that is not clear.

That connection between Vader and his next target he was going after was not shown. Vader was meant to say the line "bring my shuttle" after he spotted the falcon.

If you're going to recycle the Death Star anyway, I don't know how planet destruction is one too far.

To blow up a whole planet to put to rest a Lambda Shuttle full of rebels is stupid

The Gas giant Endor has no strategic value and really cannot be given one.

So I'm calling for more Rebel capital ships to bite the dust. It's the only way of showing the terror of the deathstar slowly destroying the Rebels and they must stop it before it destroys them all.

I was speaking in general.

yeah It's not one too far in general the problem is what target?... Don't think i am trying to make out it is a bad idea, it's not, it's perfectly logical in a way but it is also just really awkward configuration to recycle that idea 100%.

I hope you undrrstand what i am trying to say and not be rude.

Yes that was suggested about painting out the shuttle.

Perhaps your right there on the music...But if you "keep bring my shuttle" that is said over different music than "Alert my blah blah blah" I managed to find a sample on DVD active comparisons so I now know where the cues start finally.

At the end of the day I think Ady is not making a bad decision cutting it back to the theatrical version if that is still concrete. It's the script that got me thinking about trying to bridge the time gap of around 4:30 escaping and about 20 seconds to get back to cloud city ok they could have sped back really fast but the idea sprang in from reading the script notes which were a bit fishy.

It also gives Vader a new target to spring his next trap (devious)... Yeah bit of a day dream flamboyant idea but I still think it would have been better than the guff we got in the special editions.

At least the thread is back on topic

Making of Return of the Jedi (the book) Thread

Can I ask someone with the Empire Strikes Back making of Book.

What does it say about Lukes Rescue from Cloud city?

like the cut scene with Lando pulling Luke across to the Hatch and stuff.

I noticed the script is a bit different too from the movie. Could anyone shed some brief light on this for me and did they have problems with this sequence?

Budget restrictions?

Just a bit perplexed about the original sequence and then how we ended up with what we got in the movie from Lucus, Kasdan and kershner?

And then it got the wrong treatment in the special edition.

My main beef with this scene is that there is no workprint cut of what it was before they made it more slick.

I assume it was a good decision without seeing any scenes that were filmed or how it was originally in workprint.

But my gut feeling tells me that this sequence was a headache and probably dragged but I would like to have seen it before they changed it.

The special edition forgetting the vader on the deathstar abomination does not mean that the original workprint dragged but they must have cut scenes or deviated from script for good reasons.

I wonder if the script was edited order wise to relate to the footage more closely as Vader watching the falcon (departing) would suggest that scene of him walking on to the landing platform was meant to appear before Luke calls for Leia. Or it's a script writing goof! When Lucas did the special edition he probably got the idea from the cut scene but modified it.

EDIT:
Having slept on it, if you treat the script as correct and unmodified order it is a shame there is no scene with Vader with said cape blowing in the wind on the Landing platform seeing the falcon re-approach cloud city. It always felt like they got back there too quick than the time that had passed when they escaped. But again without seeing what scenes were filmed and cut and how the sequence played before editing we won't know how it went or if the scene was even shot. This would have been a far more interesting extra scene than what we got for the special edition version. and more canon to the script and not putting in that horrible line by a JEJ impersonator :)

INTERIOR: CLOUD CITY -- LANDING PLATFORM

VADER: Bring my shuttle.

EXTERIOR: CLOUD CITY-- LANDING PLATFORM

Vader enters the landing platform and stops and watches as the speck
that is the Falcon gets closer.(over shoulder POV upper torso) The wind blows at his cape.
The sound of a shuttle engines landing and lights cross over the platform. Vader's cape makes a flap sound as he sharply turns to the right towards the shuttle off screen.

It just makes you wonder how we ended up with what we did in the special edition given some real simple thought to script inconsistancies on the back of the Falcon is returning not flying away.

To be honest I really am not so good with scaled visuals but for someone like me it looks ok (not an expert on this). Somebody else suggested it anyway. I could really do with watching the original theatrical releases again because I can not hear the difference in the music score from this and the special edition to have a real good opinion on it As for Buildings and costumes I just see cloud city and Vader although a crumby CGI one.

Problem is you can not pick them up now so easily the theatrical releases and you can't find it either on youtube or alike so It makes having a proper opinion difficult unless you own the theatrical release of which is now OOP.

I don't know if there is any real value in it per say it's about opening out cloud city I suppose my main point which is my opinion is that when they did the SE the shuttle should have been in the gap where Lando is pulling Luke across the top of the falcon The other idea is someone else but it caught my interest.

Either way by the sounds of it there is loads of omitted score from both theatrical and special edition because scenes were cut out It does not play this way in the film it is edited although without hearing it I cannot be sure.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AfubGDQRT9Y

What's more interesting is also that the script is different from the movie also.

1. Vader is meant to see the falcon departing and say's bring my shuttle

2. Scene re-arrangement going on.

Here is the script section.

EXTERIOR: CLOUD CITY -- LANDING PLATFORM

Vader enters the landing platform and watches as the speck
that is the Falcon disappears. The wind blows at his cape.
He turns to two aides who are standing near the entrance to
the landing platform.

VADER: Bring my shuttle.

EXTERIOR: BOTTOM OF CLOUD CITY -- WEATHER VANE

Nearly unconscious, Luke hangs upside-down on the weather
vane as his body shifts in the wind.

EXTERIOR: MILLENNIUM FALCON -- BOTTOM OF CLOUD CITY

The Falcon dives to the underside of the floating city.
Three TIE fighter close in on the starship.

INTERIOR: MILLENNIUM FALCON

Leia tries to remain calm.

LANDO: (pointing out the cockpit window) Look, someone's up there.

LEIA: It's Luke. Chewie, slow down. Slow down and we'll get under him.
Lando, open the top hatch.

Lando rushes out of the cockpit.

EXTERIOR: BOTTOM OF CLOUD CITY -- WEATHER VANE

Luke hangs by one arm from the crossbar of the weather
vane. He slips from the bar and grabs onto the pole of the
vane as the Falcon banks toward him. The Falcon positions
itself under Luke as Lando moves up through the opening of the
hatch. Luke begins to slide and finally falls from the vane
into space.

INTERIOR: MILLENNIUM FALCON -- COCKPIT

Out the cockpit window, Leia sees Luke falling from the
bottom of the city. The ship gains on him.

LEIA: Okay. Easy, Chewie.

The Falcon closes in on Luke.

EXTERIOR: BOTTOM OF CLOUD CITY

Three TIE fighters race toward the Falcon, firing away.

INTERIOR: MILLENNIUM FALCON -- HATCH

The hatch pops open with a hiss of pressure. Lando reaches
out to help the battered warrior inside the ship.

INTERIOR: MILLENNIUM FALCON -- COCKPIT

Flak bursts all around it as the Falcon banks away from the
city. Leia and Chewie struggle with the controls.

LEIA: (into intercom) Lando?

LANDO: (over intercom) Okay, let's go.

______________________________________________

So the script is back to front a bit It's no wonder they cut Vader seeing the falcon as it had already turned back by this point. And the scene with Leia saying "Easy Chewie" was brought forward in the order, this suggests Luke was meant to fall further on to the Falcon and they caught him. This whole sequence is a bit of a jigsaw and I think it must of went through a number of different versions. From Script to filming ideas they had.

Ok let's keep the conversation flowing on topic although I really don't have much to add than I already have.

182 - Removed SE additional shots of Vader walking to shuttle and the shuttle approaching and docking with Executor

Is this still the way it is going to be or has there been any change to this decision?

I saw a pic that someone did explaining that Vader could walk out on to the Landing Platform and have the shuttle painted out even if he says "Bring my shuttle" and I seem to remember Ady saying that he did not mind this shot or atleast this is the best one of a (bad) bunch.

I totally understand removal of the other scenes especially docking with the executor with out doubt needs to go.

Although I am quite keen on the shuttle flying away from Bespin towards the executor but It is in an awkward place and there really is no way to put it in earlier because of the way the sequence is laid out. I don't think this one is too damaging to the film or the music. But I am not really upset about the cuts just wondering if this has changed in 5 years or it's still concrete?

If the music was not the way it was I would have put the shuttle in while Lando is meant to be scrambling about to get Luke on the top of the falcon... Then cut back to Tie's and Leia saying "Lando" but this is not possible with the music score. But that would have been the way it could have been done best, If they had thought about it a bit more when editing the Special edition and re-shaping the scene properly to accomodate it properly And use the natural gap that got cut anyway.

Such a shame this footage has never seen the light of day too.

Re-imagining the OT using snippets of PT back story to create an alternative trilogy
Time

So looking at the prequals and taking for granted "it's Just footage" yields problems without even editing anything together they are totally different.

Forgetting everything else I wrote so far.

The most important thing I need to get into Jedi is the conversation between Palpatine and Anakin.

In fact all I need is the audio of palpatines voice but I need to find a way to tell the story of Darth Pleiguies.

This is what everything hangs on a decision on doing a lot of work or not so please help.

Where can I put the story of Darth PLeiguies in Return of the Jedi?

And that means even without the footage?

Ok a quick update on some structure to this idea.

In Star Wars (A New Hope( I Plan to try to show scenes with Obi-wan and Anakin This will be from TPM and ATOC no little boy anakin will be seen,

In ESB it will be a middle grpund but a focus on the siblings will be made at the end we will focus more on Anakin and his defeat at the Hands of Obiwan

In ROTJ this theme will carry on Focusing on Ankin but regressing backwards until Lukes Capture when it will reveal Anakins Robotic Modification operating scene.

ROTJ will open with the scene with Mace Windu and the Emperor and Anakin trying to intervene. But Bookended with Vader in his Meditation Chamber / or deep thought.

This is as far as I have got envisioning this idea as it slowly is starting to take shape. And remember This will tell the whole guts of the story of the prequal trilogy in under 30 minutes spread across 3 films.

Nope although the visuals need to be taken in to account dialogue may need to be altered or changed.

I am not editing any footage i am looking for ideas in the form of combining small parts and looking for story of which i have some rough outline.

I would like peoples ideas and thoughts and plan something out first before doing any editing.

This will be a slightly different story yet grounded in what is possible / feasible

I have a few ideas in mind my self and I would like to encourage some ideas here for fleshing out the important moments of The PT for insertion as flash back story across the OT.

Your idea must include where it goes in the OT footage and what scene / scenes you use from the PT.

And any subsequent alterations made to either the scenes present or later on in the film because of the added story element.

Here is an example.

Bens Hut in Star Wars A New Hope

Luke Mentors Luke about his Father and talks about the light sabre.

After the scene is finished it would cut to an edited version of the Duel with Qui-gon & Obi-wan vs Maul and No Anakin.

Qui-gon Dies and Obi-wan defeats Maul (Edited to be more like the OT)

The scene will end with Qui-gon asking Obi-wan that he "train the Boy"

Resume Footage

I'll single out a few that I think are perhaps important and rough placement

Birth of Siblings Luke (named) Leia (unamed) ESB there is another
Ben Delievering Luke to the Lars Homestead ESB there is another
Obiwan Talking to Anakin on Mustafa ESB Falcon Jumps away
Obi-wan Defeating Anakin on Mustafa ESB Falcom Jumps away
Anakin and Obi-wan rowing over Palpatine ANH After / nefore Destruction of alderan
Anakin trying to save Palpatine Mace Windu killed ROTJ ?
Anakin on the Operating Table becoming Vader ROTJ Luke captured
Anakin talking with Sideous about Dart PLaguiues. ROTJ

I am not very fond of the PT but I am trying to find a use for this back story and if possible make something for fun at the moment.

Indeed but i think it would make a horrible ending

when idid a rough cut of rotj I used a small excerpt from Vader on the oprrating table PT scene for a flashback...

This ultramachete episodic re-arrangement although i think there is a possibility it could work the prequal trilogy guts of the story could be told in around 30 minutes with an ubermachete and a single trilogy would remain.

ANH, ESB and ROTJ could contain some flash backs that would tell the relevant back story in an ordered an perhaps even altered manner without telling all.

But i am not so sure about how...what or where or alterations i am pondering.

In ANH after Ben tells Luke About his father you could insert here and introduce young obiwan

Later in ANH you could have finding out about the clone army from ATOC

in Esb when the falcon jumps away to light speed you could show the conclusion to the duel in ROTS or an edited version

Just some rambling at the moment but it could be scattered story totally out of chronological order

Heres a really Radical Idea..... And quite Evil

Have the Deathstar II actually Blow up Endor Moon with Han and Leia Chewbacca and the Ewoks.

This is the point that Luke flys into a Rage.

There would be a hell of a lot of emotion in that.

But then how do you end the film from here...So even if it's am edit you know it won't happen this way.
