STAR WARS: EP V &quot;REVISITED EDITION&quot;<strong>ADYWAN</strong> - <strong>12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW</strong>

Love this edit Ady! Model works spot on with the rest of the chase.

Only one question, are you planning on adding a few laser blasts as the Ties enter the canyon? They suddenly stop firing when theres a camera change. Think this may be in the original too? Bit jarring.

Maybe adding 2 or 3 blaster shots after the camera cut to your model will also blend the two scenes. Could maybe have one shot hit the falcon so they don't look so inept like storm troopers.

(Actually, before you rebuilt and filmed the canyon, did you not do this before in your edit? Or am i getting a de jar jar vue?)

Still, great work man!

It would be kind of cool not to mention creepy if those trees walked like spiders (not all the time but just the odd one now and then).

Not sure if its been discussed here before as i took a long break, but the Ralph Mcquarrie Nobby Spider design, i read was supposed to die/coccoon and turn into these trees.

Any plans for a stop motion Nobby spider as a background element? Would be easy to build from wire/latex and wool. Thought about building one myself but got a lot of work on at the mo and I know Ady is wanting to get this finished asap.

Alternatively, on the deleted scene of Dagobah in ROTS dvd, a small Nobby spider scurries across the foreground when Yodas ship lands. Maybe a partial scenery crop could be added into a shot? Maybe somewhere where Luke goes into the cave?

Regarding the end music pan pipes in the bluray of ROTJ, I mentioned in the ESBR thread about season 6/ep 11 of Clone Wars being Yoda and Dagobah potential gold mine for new ESB related sounds/dialogue music etc..

Well, the finali to the clone wars, ep 13, in its end credits sequence has a NEW piece of SW music that is very melancholy, different to the usual SW theme thats on all other Clone Wars episodes. This finali has this new music as a sort of goodbye/thanks for watching vibe. Perfect as a better replacement to those awful pan-pipes that we have now.  Hell, i even think the phantom menace end party scene has better music. Maybe. hmm :-/

.....

Also, as this is the SAGA thread, back to the added then deleted CGI Jabba scene in ANH. I wonder if ADY could add back the scene. But, cut and blend Jabbas puppet face over the bad cgi face, a bit like how Palpatines face was grafted over his new hologram face in ESBR. ? could work if colours match?

Personally, I don't mind Ewoks. Never realized people hated hem till I joined OT.com, Its always been part of the movie that i love. But I understand now the "my best troops" being wiped out by them. I would just add more extras, rebels and troopers having shootouts.

Maybe even some other Hover vehicles/troop carriers, and that weird Rebel ship or weapon that was on the front cover of one of the kenner figure packets in the 80s with rebels sat around it, never saw it in the movie though. Know the one?

Also, the added bonus of adding a few extras, is they can deliver new lines of dialogue, such as "We need the Ewoks to create a diversion"  maybe to the new c3p0 extra, who would then be assumed to pass on that message. Problem solved, that way the Ewoks are just helping out the battle not winning it.

Cutting out the Ewoks would ruin our memories of the film too much, it would be like cutting out the Jawas from ANH, (which to me Ewoks/Jawas are on the same level. I see them as Tribal pigmies that hunt and eat people, not cute Teddy bears. Some of their dialogue I like too, where its taken from real tribal talking. But theres a few weird lines that sound like English "this guys wise" is one such line.

And someone mentioned in another thread, remove the silly logs roll down hill and trip over the scout walker. Sacrilage!  These big layed out traps i always assume were to take down giant beasts, such as that big wart-hog looking beast from the Ewok Adventure movie. (Perhaps that hunt could be added into ROTJR before the Empire make their appearance. Or maybe not, just a thought.

Main changes I'd like to see to this film are some of the atrocities of the blu-ray. The big grey Matte hexagon that is around the DeathStar in a few shots. The Matte blur around the speeder bikes, which I can slightly forgive as forcefield to stop twigs getting in the riders eyes. Lose the new song in Jabbas Palace and revert to the original. Vaders new Nooooo Noooooooo!  Sebulba coming back from a night piss in Jabbas Palace.
And ideally, lose the beak that was added to the Sarlac. (though i kinda got used to it now, may seem bare without it. Unless something different was added, maybe something like those maggot things in King Kong?

That is all.

Found the vehicle i meant... Rebel Endor ranger..

http://www.sydling.se/images/large/boxed_trilogo/endorforestranger.jpg

could perhaps even get this toy and bluscreen it into a shot, maybe have it take down a scout walker?

even as a distance vehicle.

Oh, and heres a little mockup clip i made a while back, Vader retrieves his lightsaber...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AguISScl4jY

(Ignore the sound effect at the end where he ignites it again, i meant to take that out, as its supposed to be lit the whole time.) Also, ignore the slight wobbly blade, the way I made it was not using after effects, I drew each frame individually in photoshop, so its a bit wobbly.)

MORE SPOILERS

All that AND LIAM F*CKING NEESON saying "Yoda, Go to Dagobah!"

It went a long way to undoing a lot of the nonsense of the prequels. It really did feel like they were trying to tie up as much as possible in that short arc - I wonder how much of it was revised after the cancellation..

It had a very ESB sort of feel but it's probably too late now to consider as a resource for ESB Revisited. Although there might be some useful stuff for future edits.

Yeah Liam Neesons voice was a welcome addition, glad it wasn't another actor trying to do his voice. That alone could be grafted into the ROTS Revisited perhaps.

You may be right about it being a little late in the game to add sounds etc into ESBR as its supposed to be almost finished. Still, worth a look before releasing it maybe? Just for a bit of polish perhaps.

I have just finally caught up with the last few episodes of Clone Wars series, and episode 11, of season 6 (which was absolutely beautiful by the way) just had  a huge impact on Empire strikes back. (particularly Dagobah.

Wondering if theres any usable snippets of dialogue/ music/ sound effects Ady could use from this Dagobah episode. Some lovely R2 beeps and bloops with that Dagobah style echo added to it, very powerful scenes.

(spoilers!!!!  for those not caught up with the show))

... It was Yoda on Dagobah, learning how to communicate with Force Ghost Qui gon. And explained much about the cave. It made Yoda and Lukes lines "I'm not afraid" "you will be" a 100 times more powerful when we see what Yoda saw in there first.  Also, thankfully the Force has been explained and Midichloreans as a blood disease are now gone! This episode was pivotal in correcting much of what we knew/hated about the prequels. Turns out Yoda had more to learn, and balance has been somewhat restored to the OT.  very worth a watch just for this episode even if you don't watch the show. but it may have a small goldmine of usable sound content for Revisited perhaps.

I have not watched Empire purposely for about 2 years as i been waiting for this edit to get rid of the taste of blu-ray out of my eyes, but I cant wait, as my next viewing will have even more enhanced meaning to it.

Confused by the "pointless ground troops" conversation. I missed parts of it though, but from what I see, the ground troops were outside defending what may turn up. Those ATATs are transporters for ground troops so made sense to me to wait to tackle them when unloaded. Which of course they do when the snow troopers entered Echo base.   Shame we didn't see them unloading though with a bit of extended man on man shootouts.

And I'm not sure that the Rebels knew of the extent of ATAT shieldd capabilities till they got close enough. Possibly why they end up fleeing Hoth. ?

Hey, yeah its just a lil mock-up I did a while back to show an idea. The shock-wave is hard to see on the small screen, I saw a documentary on tv and they were showing explosions but really slowed down frame rate, I saw what looks like a big Jelly like shock-wave around it. And I figured since the At-At explosion was big, it would have added scale.

edit.. heres the shockwave footage, found it...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Aq5TSs-yX0g

I'm also looking forward to see what Ady did to the asteroid bombs. I thought they were EMP charges to disable, but even if they were that, still coulda done with some lightning bolts or something. Just old FX work i guess.

Wow! I finally remembered my login details after several years away!

Been stopping by now and again to read some of the progress of Ady's edit. But I just read the latest topic ideas of inserting "Luke" into Palpatines speech.

Not sure if it was discussed, but wondering why Lukes name is to be inserted? As to me this doesn't make sense.

Palpatine to my knowledge does not know Lukes name at this point. But "young Skywalker" is a reference to him "feeling" with the force that the offspring of Anakin is on the scene, aka young skywalker.  Infact, as far as we've seen in the movies, even Vader should not know Lukes name seeing as he wasn't present at the birth or upbringing of Luke. Only way I can see Vader finding out Lukes name in Empire, is perhapse word of mouth of the hero of the battle of Yavin. .. Which in turn i suppose Palpatine could have heard it too.

But, this scene indicates that this "new Enemy" is new news to Palpy. And it is after this scene that Vader mentions Lukes name, though his info likely comes from any one of the captured gang on Bespin. (who knows what was said at that table with Vader/han Leia etc..)

Anyways, just puttin that out there. peace out! ;-)

FANTASTIC!!! Took me two times before i noticed the subtitles in the clip. Every one of those edits is spot on. Just a note: At about 2.03 Lando fires his gun, but theres a sound but no blast. Near the end of the clip as theyre boarding the falcon.

Also, not sure if its been mentioned before, but, at 0.22, When Lando says attention. Those 3 people in the corridor seem totally out of place to me. I dont know if its the shot or their outfits. It looks like a 1997 shot added in, not sure if it is, but is there anything that can be changed with that shot? looks tacked on.

Just watched ROTJ on Bluray. :-(

The NO NOOOO is bad, BUT there are almost bigger gripes I have with it.

First some bits I'm OK with....

Inside Jabbas palace looks real good in bluray, the brighness seems up which may also play a problem with some of the later scenes.

I don't mind that Sebulba walks down some steps in Jabbas Palace.

I don't mind the Jabba's door pan.

Han defrosting from carbonite looks ok too, though the original was fine.

Ewoks blinking isnt great but its not terrible (except that only Wicket blinks, which makes the hundreds of other NONE blinking Ewoks look more like stuffed teddies. ) All or nothing here George!

Now, heres the bad....

Matte lines are very present. And worse, there are grey boxes around spaceships in battle, grey hexagon around the Death star in some shots, and weird anomalies/boxes around speeder bikes and the star destroyer as it plunges into the deathstar surface.(Maybe due to said Brightness levels being up?)

AND Vaders lightsaber throughout all 3 films is pink and painty.

The torturing of that Droid in Jabbas palace, still, the hot irons don't touch his feet.

Anyways, just thought I'd list what I noticed from the bluray for when Ady fixes this mess.

My Apologies!

Here, let me bring it all back on track....

Juicy Empire Strikes Back deleted scene.....

http://insidemovies.ew.com/2011/09/06/star-wars-empire-strikes-back-deleted-scene/

Personally, I really like the new OLD scene, but don't think it works if included into the film. Still, a lot of people seem to be complaining about it, personally I find it quite humourus. Still, as its a taster of the QUALITY of the deleted scenes, just wondering how easy it would be to clear the image up for Ady, IF a scene popped up that he liked and wanted to add it in??

I've always been keen to see the Wampa scene added (If it was good) especially if building a new Wampa.

If the AVI is too low-res for you, have you checked out the DVD-5 or DVD-9 versions? Also, Ady WILL be releasing an HD version of ANH:R, but it will be 720p, not 1080p, and it will not be coming out until after he completes his work with ROTJ. If you have any other questions, I suggest you follow the link below. All of your questions could have been answered there in the first place...

Thanks Cap, Glad theres a higher res version out there. 720p is great as 1080p freezes up on my old PC.

I have not seen the DVD-5 or DVD-9. Where can they be found? Could Anyone PM me a straight link? Had trouble finding the fan-edits from fanedit.org so i gave up and stuck with my old avi for years.

Which of 5 or 9 is better? I'm unfamiliar with those formats. Are they USA DVDs?

ADY,

Well, just seen the blurays of the OT. Empire looks to me to have gotten away unscathed. Didnt notice any digital tweaks, although been a year since I saw it last as I was waiting to see the Adywan edit. However I must say, it looked gorgious! Ady, will you be putting some of your fx/edits etc over a bluray version?

I have your New Hope edit, and love it! But its at the low res avi, and its the first release of it you did. So when I compared it to the new bluray the picture quality is a huge step down. Are you planning a higher res release of New Hope? I hate that the bluray didnt even fix the lightsabers, and seeing only 4 tie fighters in the final battle now looks kinda silly.

As for Return of the Jedi, Jesus! What a mess. The NOOO clip is getting all the attention, but what seems worse to me is the amplified bad dated Mattes. There are now boxes around the speeder bikes, Grey boxes around the space ships in space. A hexagon around the Deathstar.Much work to do there, I don't envy you there. Well, actually I do, I would love to have a go at it. Pink lightsabers throughout too.

What pains me most of all, is I was imagining that this whole time, that Lucas and/or his ILM team, where fully aware of your edits. And were silently impressed and so let what your doing slide. And was hoping that his team would be trying to match what you were doing then releasing them on bluray.

Maybe thats just fantasyland I was in. What a shame! Still, your edits of these films, now more than before, will go down in history!

EDIT:

I hope this can be useful for any editor in the future

http://vimeo.com/23436085

Firstly, to oh-original, Those Sparks work fantastic! They work subtly but I actually wouldnt mind seeing them a little less subtle out of interest. I don't believe every new edit has to be too subtle so as not to upset fans. ie, Adys Hoth scene, its a completely new shot almost but it works fantastically.

And to Angel, after a long time of seeing your icon/thumbnail. For some reason I thought it was some butterfly or Angel image, didnt realize it was the view through Vaders mask. Haha. Cant believe i missed that. Anyway, I'm so glad I did, because it led me down a loooong spiral and into your work on your Devientart page, those Star Wars mockup scenes are absolutely STUNNING mate!

I plowed through every one and I bloody love em! Anyone that has not seen them, I urge you to check them out. Could do with a dedicated page on this site to show them all off. I would kill to see the whole films done with those shots, just out of curiosity.

Aah! Just remembered my reason for saying that about the BEN Kenobi thing..

Someone on cracked.com said something like.. Why the hell would Obi Wan change his name to Ben but keep the surname Kenobi, if he were to hide his identity from the EMPIRE.

Hence I said.. BEN was more likely to hide his first names (which have a Jedi like sounding name.. ie: Obi Wan/ Qui Gon/ Ki Adi Mundi etc.. All very Jedi sounding.)

In the prequels, robots were seen as the Villains (trade federation) When I studied Star Wars in film studies (before the prequels were made) There was a whole "Race" /discrimination topic about why the Droids weren't allowed in the Cantina. (The prequels gave reason for this, small minded folk that remembered the trade federation/distrust of droids)

Also, in ROTS, the Jedi were framed by Palpatine and were outcast. So to be a Jedi living on Tattooiine OBI WAN would have found himself not blending in very well, or even being reported to the Empire. (So his tripple-barrelled-JEDI name changed to Old Ben makes sense.)

I also mentioned Chewie and Ben APPEARED to have met prior to the meet at the bar. Well, its 50/50 either way.

Hope that explains what I said earlier a bit better. More to a response to what someone said on Cracked.com.. But more relevant to what RadiOn was saying.

Logically, BEN Kenobi is not a name to hide him from the empire.. but instead is to hide his JEDI name Obi wan, from the jedi hating dwellers of tattooine. remember in ROTS, the emperor makes out that the jedi are evil. (Same reason Droids are disliked in the OT. Tarred with the evil battledroid brush.

The prequels sure had their mistakes, but people seem blind to the genius behind the great parts.
