This project looks really cool. When it is done I would love a disc.
Will the finished product be PAL or NTSC?

You know... if you'd have started with Darth Editous' cut, you could have saved yourself a whole lot of work.

Hello adywan, and a belated welcome to the forum (I see you joined back in March). Glad to have you onboard.

As mentioned previously, you might want to look at the Darth Editous Edition, as some of your edits have already been implemented by DE.

Hey adywan, did you know Darth Editous had already fixed some of that stuff ?

:: Alright sarky - his images were too large, which put that part off the side of the screen. That's why I missed it. So !

However, in practice you must take into account the "fuckwit factor". Just talk to Darth Mallwalker...

Actually my edition is PAL, although I made an NTSC version of it as well. If you feel the urge to post any clips, I'd love to see the morphs you've done.

I'd also love to see a screenshot of your replacement Alderaan projection!

The thing about Luke's saber is that on the bonus disc, the photo gallery menu shows him with the correct blue one.

Take back the trilogy. Execute Order '77

Thats because Van Ling remastered that stuff. Damn they should have had him do the whole trilogy.

How come 99% of the "fan edits" kick ass over anything Lucas and his "original vision" ever came up with? LOL

Adywan, VERY NICELY DONE......I especially like the command ship in the distance.....I guess that was too obvious for Lucas and Co. to think up by themselves.....

I'm sure I speak for quite a few Padawans here that we can hardly wait for your edit to be completed....

Even in that short clip, you made the SE of SW alot more enjoyable to watch...thank you.

I love everybody. Lets all smoke some reefer and chill. Hug and kisses for everybody.

I love how you added the super star destroyer into the shot of vader's tie flying off in the distance after the death star has been destroyed.

My Darth Editous edition could be in danger of being replaced of my most watched disc. Could I recommend something for the sheilds in the death star hangar bay? I got to say I love that you rampped up the lights on them. Maybe they could actually dim as the falcon passes through? It has always bothered me that they never really did anything.

Oh, and the TIE fighters firing as they approach kick @$$!! Great idea!

In the original film, Luke calls the red R-5 an R2 unit when it explodes, but in the radio drama, he(Mark Hammil) correctly refers to it as an "R5 unit". Now this is a very minor point, and one could argue that R2 is just a generic term, and he wasn't being speciifc, but if you wanted, you could use the radio drama clip to correct Luke's mistake. I always thought this might be not to bad of an idea as Luke always struck me a sort of a geeky teckie sort of guy that would get something like that right.

Also, another possible audio change that I had thought of is, when Obi-Wan refers to the force for the first time, Luke responce of "the force!?" always sounded a bit too much as though he had never heard of the force. That always struch me as a bit suprising. While, he certainly wouldn't know much about the force, the idea that he had never heard it mentioned before always seemed a little wrong to me.

In the radio drama, when Mark responds, with "the force" he says the same words, however, the inflection in his voice makes it seem as though the force is something he has heard of, something he was a little curious about, but something about which he had never learned much about. This always seemed a bit more realistic to me, and always made his choice to enlist with Obi-Wan and his defence of the force to Han Solo a few days later more believeable. If it was up to me I would replace Luke's lines "the force" in the movie with his performance from the radio drama.

my .02

I enjoyed the trailer. Except for this:

An example of why I, personally, find watching the DVD-sourced edits distracting.

Wow, what can I say? I hope you take it as a compliment when I say I'm jealous! I would never have the patience to repaint every lightsabre and every laserbolt - in fact they almost look too good, if you know what I mean.

Adding the Super Star Destroyer does raise the question of why it didn't fly in to kick the rebel's butts...

I'm going to rant a little now, this really bugs me if Luke Skywalker says it's an R2 unit in the film, the primary source of 'canon', then I'm inclined to say it is an R2 unit and not an R5 just because the EU has decided it is, the EU should have been consistent with the films, the films should not be adapted to fit this later (pointless) naming scheme for astromechs, they didn't even follow the conventions in the prequels so why bother changing luke's line?

And surely it's concievable that luke hasn't heard of the force the jedi are dead and gone and his Uncle has been trying to shield him from Ben's influence, according to the prequels tatooine wasn't even part of the republic and Jedi weren't exactly common there.

Great work Adywan!

I tried to start working on the lightsabers myself ages ago but with work and family never had the time to finish what I started.

After spending weeks working on this I know how hard it can be to work around the original effect and I'm very impressed with the quality you managed to get. Even better is the fact that you managed to get them to look more like the blue OT lightsbaer colours than going the way of the PT which was leaning more towards a blue-violet colour range.

However I did notice that the core doesn't seem to have quite the right whiteness to it as the OT had originally, also Vader's saber appears to be a bit too Strawberry Red. Just wanted to give some constructive advice as I want you to produce the best you can and get the pat on the back you deserve for doing this.

I'm curious as to how you managed to get such great shots. For example in the falcon when Luke begins to use the training remote and we have the wide shot I created a clean back plate from when he finishes and walks over to Obi-Wan as he sits down after sensesing a disturbance in the force.

From that I then rotoscoped Luke into the clean plate and then removed his lightsaber blade which as you all know tends to jump around and shift angle independently of the angle it is being held. I then put in a thin red blade to check the new angle of the blade and then used that to create the new lightsaber blade over the top.

Very tricky to get the right motion and still stay with the angle of the lightsaber in Luke's hand. Another problem I had was Chewbacca sitting down in the background. By removing the original blade I had two problems, one was that the old blade was on his head and didn't match the angle of the new blade so you would still see it, two was the glow from the balde was green and not blue which also was on top of him.

I managed to get clean frames of Chewie and rotoscoped him in and then have him go forward as normal and then before the lightsaber moves onto him reverse the footage back the way. At first I had him just be still but thought that was cheating so I did it this way so he still moves.

Just a query will you be sorting out any garbage matts?

DE

I like to think that it just arrived a split second before the DS explodes.....the commanders on board see the DS explode and freak.....partly because they just can't believe what they just witnessed and partly because Darth is heading back their way and totally pissed off at them for being late to the battle.....commanders are going to drop like flys when Vader gets back on board.......

Remember even the SSD was taken out in ROTJ.....took some time and the sacrifice of quite a few ships but one well placed ship,(was it an A-wing?), through the upper command deck and BAM!...down goes the SSD......LOL

I love everybody. Lets all smoke some reefer and chill. Hug and kisses for everybody.

Adywan,

This looks very interesting. You've obviously put a lot of work into this.

The laser bolts you painted in sometimes look a little too intense. The greens seemed a little too green and the reds a little too red. Maybe they need more of a white core? But it's possible you've done them exactly right and my eyes are just so used to seeing them look different.

You know of the rebellion against the Empire?

adywan, you could use the footage of Darth Vader docking with his Super Star Destroyer ,from ESB, at the end of ANH when he flies toward his SSD after the Death Star explodes.

Adywan,

This is some great work. Please tell me Han shoots first. I sincerely hope you can make this available in NTSC for we across the pond. Are you going to give this treatement to the other SEs?

EDIT: Of course Han shoots first. You mean I'm expected to actually read these posts?
