Re Strange monster sounds^^^
If you check out the film An EWOK Adventure (Caravan of Courage) there is actually a cool scene where Ewoks actually hunt down a giant Boar like monster with spears.
This would be a great insert into ROTJ, to show that these furry lil buggers can take down a giant beast, and are more than simply teddy bears.Also a great benefit is that its filmed in the same locale, and same costumes etc.
How good the monster looks now I dont know, as I have not seen the film since VHS was all the rage.

One of the problems I've always had with RotJ is Endor. It was shot in a national park, and it kinda' shows. There doesn't seem to be anything threatening about it as an environment. Even Luke's old home, Tatooine, has the potential to be more threatening. Although it looks quite creepy at the landing platform with Vader at night, the rest of the time it seems as though the rebels are a hiking team rather than people infiltrating a strange world.
There must be some way to make it seem like the kind of exotic environment we're used to seeing in Star Wars - maybe a fog effect could be used or a shot of a very distant canopy, emphasising unearthly massive trees, which then pans down to show the rebels.Any other ideas?
Good call, many of the shots are either static or matte paintings filling out the surrounding trees in a shot.
Maybe some extra photoshop mattes could be added to some of the trees/foliage to make it look a bit more exotic.
Add twisted vines wrapped round tree trunks, low dangling vines and maybe big exotic flowers and plants. Possibly pinch some from Felucia and Avatar?
Me being a Brit, thought that the Giant Red-woods were Alien looking because over here we dont have such forrests. But, now with so much Hi-def wildlife programmes on, it does now look a bit "Ordinary". Especially with many short Fan-films being filmed there, kinda cheapens it.
Love the mood and lighting of that briefing room pic.
The laser in the centre of the deathstar sounds interesting, bugged me how the original deathstar plans in new hope didnt actually match the actual deathstar.
Also, a really cool but underused ship in ROTJ are the B-WINGS, I would love to see a few more shots of those in action. Infact, for some reason I feel that i saw shots in the films back in the 80s that no longer appear, as if in a dream or something.

I had a possible brainwave for how you could maybe recoup your expenses/fund projects...
How about writing a book about your fanedits? It could make an interesting read, and like another sertain dvd i saw (forgot the name) that was about Star Wars but was unnofficial.
Maybe an unnoficial Star Wars fanediting book, maybe with some tutorials added and your whole time doing the project, and how some of this forum community got involved. If you got that published, maybe ig GL may even get hold of it and get you Offically working on the 3D bluray re-release.
On a seperate note, Have you ever thought of doing video tutorials of both how to fan edit a dvd, with lists of programmes used and how too's, I would buy one, and I'm sure others would.

Notice just as the AT-AT is blown to bits, i have included a subtle Shockwave.
I used the blur tool in photoshop and animated it blurring a dome as it goes boom. Very subtle so may need a few watches to notice it but it looks cool.
Shockwave is at approx.. 0:12
Ady & all, been at it again, I wasnt 100% happy with the last version (above) so i have redone it again (for the last time i think)
This time the neck explosion is more subtle and minimal, with damage only done to the neck area ( no more mini explosions throughout the belly of that steel beast!
Also, added more pronounced shockwave to the big boom.

(was also considering trying out putting snowtroopers in the door of an ATAT in a different shot, need more thought as to where to aquire footage of snowtroopers. Was going to use a still image but it may look phony. watch this space... :-)

Ripplin, the first flames actually come out as the chin hits the floor, as the chin bends the neck back, but i admit it needs work. I think I may have added the follow up flames too soon after the neck snaps making it look like an overall explosion.
It is a bit messy, i may have another attempt. It was only a rush job as i was mainly trying to work out deinterlacing issues, but wanted to see if it worked with a filmstrip file in photoshop. Wish I could get hold of some 720p or full dvd footage to play with.

OK, I have re done my AT-AT fall mini explosions. I kinda preferred my earlier more subtle version, I tried to add smoke plumes but it didnt work out great. However, think I got passed the De-interlaced problems.

It doesn't really show shields on this one, more internal damage caused by the neck breaking. The originating explosion is when the head hits the ground and bends the neck back. Setting off a mini chain reaction inside the beast.
Also, thanks for your tips on de-interlacing problems. Its always confused the hell outa me, and am still kinda unsure. I always thought interlacing was something to do with American tv picture, or something like that.

This is interesting. I'm moving this over to the wish list thread.
I tried swapping rock for a skull to match what hits the button, but it didnt work out so well, so i may instead make the skull a rock. I always thought it was a rock he threw. After a million viewings i am still finding new things. I love Star Wars!!!
Thanks, there is some elictricity added to the blast, but its very quickly animated. I still prefer my green laser shot, bit more subtle. But I like what your saying about electricy knocking out some of the shields, an EMP laser, maybe weakening the AT-AT armour before it falls. Cool thought.

The "build up" charge on the ATAT guns is actually present, but when played back its too quick to see. I may add more frames to the beginning to lengthen the charge, need a cool sound wav too.
I like the idea of the blast bouncing off the legs too. I just had the legs absorb it because the oringinal does, but i may try that too.
vaderinos ... I too like the "retro" look of the original lasers, but, I can get that in any copy of the movie.
Besides its just a muckabout test. Something to show ADY incase he fancies doing something similar. Its my own preference and isn't gonna please everybody.

I'm not too savvy with the video quality fixing side of things. I'm still using adobe premiere 6.5 and exporting filmstrips into photoshop to paint onto the frames, quality has always bugged me. I'm more an artist than PC knowledge.
Sure wish i was though, I have wanted to fanedit star wars since before i heard it was possible.
I have smaller broken down clips that may look slightly better, but i havnt uploaded them yet. Its been about 3 years or so since i last used youtube for uploading vids. I will try and upload links to my facebook to see if they come out better then link here.
As for the yellow at at blasts. The big blasts from the cannons always blended in to all the other lasers flying around. Since playing battlefront i liked how some lasers were charged up before firing. I made them stand out for that one shot to try symbolize this. And i didnt wanna use boring old red and I used green on the radar-cannon, although typically green lasers are a very empire colour.
I know, its come out terrible. Its ok-ish on my pc, but when I upped it to youtube it went shitshaped.
Basically i did a series of 2 takes, the first take unaltered, then take 2 of each shot i rotoscoped over the laser bolts.
The radar-cannon i gave it a green blast as i found such an unusual looking weapon it was a shame the lasers looked un-spectacular compared with all the other lasers flying around.
You added me on facebook today, so i will try and upload better versions on there. I have one up already, but have had weird video day today where nothing seemed to upload on both youtube and facebook.
That colour fix is looking damn sweet Ady!
Heres something for you to check out that I did. (I know, quality of vid is TERRIBLE) Dont know what happened there.
But I rotoscoped a few alternate LASER blast effects on some of the more prominent blasts in the Hoth battle.
Also a quick de-shielding/damage to the fallen AT-AT.
Note: TAKE-1 original unnaltered, TAKE-2 fiddled with.

I couldn't find an FAQ for this forum.
EU stands for EXPANDED UNIVERSE, ie.. Books/games/comics/etc... Basically anything that is NOT the movies.
I wonder which category the awesome Clone Wars animated falls under? I think its a whole lot better than the Prequel trilogy.
I suppose its cannon, as in GL verified. But it does also Expand the Star Wars Universe. Hmmm.
