The Matrix
Time
Didn't see The Matrix in it's release. I just didn't like the trailers at all. I wasn't buying the special effects and didn't like the thought of Neo (played by Keanu) as "the one".

It's funny that in the later movies (I don't remember hearing it that much for The Matrix) people then brought up Neo as being a "Jesus" like figure because I saw that in the original movie trailers. I thought to myself, "I just don't buy Keanu Reeves as being 'Jesus'". So I skipped out on the original theater release.

Skip a couple years ahead. Somehow I finally watched it on DVD and was completely blown away. I agree with MeBe, it's almost a perfect movie IMO. It's the only one I own on DVD.

I was really excited to see II and III in the movies and like the rest of you was greatly disappointed after it was all said and done. I really wanted to like them, and like the prequels made excuses for them. But looking back at them now I just don't like them that much. I find it really funny the brother's knocked the prequels because they relied too much on effects and not enough of story and character development when that's where the II & III films failed most at. There's a couple cool scenes in each (the freeway in II & the superman fight in III), but not enough to carry the films. So I only count the 1st one. And for the record I grade ep II and ep III above Matrix II & III.

'Serenity' dethrones 'Star Wars' as UK's favourite sci-fi film
Time
My roommate who's a pretty big comic book fan went to the Comic-Con in NYC and said there were just as many "Browncoats" as there were Star Wars costumes there.

It's such a shame Joss went with Fox to air the series on. They really treated it like garbage. It would have done so much better on the SciFi network (and lasted longer too). Could you imagine a lineup of Firefly Season5, Battlestar Galactica S3 (best show on TV IMO) and now The Lost Room S1 (which I have no idea why SciFi didn't pick it up as series)?

I loved Firefly, but Serenity was just decent.

So THIS IS FOR REAL right and not an April fools day joke? While this announcement isn't really a surprise (anyone could see it coming by the lack of updates here), I am disappointed. It seemed like a really cool project and I would hope the materials used & finished (if there are any) could be passed along to someone(s) who CAN finish the project.

No. No episode numbers at all. Just simply Star Wars, Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi.

I'm assuming those will be the title names? I don't like that, just keeping the original names. I think you should morph the names since your morphing the movies together. Something like: The Phantom Wars, The Clones Strike Back, and Revenge of the Jedi would be better IMO.

There are some quite nice ones here: http://kevin.alfahosting.org/test/index.php?album=covers%2FSpecial+Edition%2F5star/

EDIT: Sorry couldn't make the hyperlink thingy work.

I tried scanning them in but they didn't come in too well (I didn't like the flap). If someone wants I can try doing the labels. I figured someone might want to try redesigning the covers since I thought it won't print that well with the flap like that. They can take a stab at labels too if you guys want to use mine as as reference.

I also wanted to let people know that it seems my vonage (VOIP) is affected by the uploading. When I try to talk during it the connection is all broken up. As soon as I stopped it for a few minutes, it worked fine. I don't talk much on the line, but if it goes down that's just because I'm talking on the phone. I'll turn it back in when I'm done. Hopefully this will go a lot smoother once we get a few seeds out there (I'll leave it up 24x7 till we get a few too and as I said before turn off the cap when I'm not online).

Yeah, unfortunately I'm the only one seeding right now. When I'm not online I'll turn up the connection speed so hopefully it'll go faster. I definitely noticed a drop in my speed if I leave it above 25kbs. Today I worked from home, so I had to turn it down. I'll definitely leave it seeded till 24 hours a day till at least a few people are seeding as well.

STAR WARS: The Torrents thread
Time
Hey all, just wanted to let you guys know that I uploaded all 3 movies of the 1997 Special Editions of the "Enhanced Widescreen Five Star Collection" to thepiratebay. They are a single layer DVD rip (that seemed to be the most popular choice). It's in Anamorphic Widescreen (Aspect Ratio 2.35:1) with AC3 5.1-ch English audio selected. You can find them from using this search term: 1997 IV, 1997 V, 1997 VI respectively.

This is my 1st time uploading torrents so please be kind if you encounter problems. Hopefully everything will go smooth though. Enjoy.

EDIT: Forgot to say that I plan on leaving them seeded 24 hours for a week (7 days) straight. Normally I only turn my PC on at night, so that's what I'll do after that. But whoever downloads them please keep on seeding after my week is up. Thanks!

OK, I have them ripped to my hard drive. They're each a dual layer dvd (not compressed), so if you guys need single layer compressed let me know. Also, what torrent site would be better to post them on? I'm inclined to post them on piratebay since it's wide open, but I don't know if demonoid has more traffic even though you have to be registered.

converting video files to WMV
Time
What programs do you guys use to convert video files to different formats? I'm looking to convert divx/xvid-HD, HD-TS, and HDTV x264 files to WMV-HD (so I can stream movies to my xbox 360). I've tried Canopus ProCoder 2 but for some reason can't get audio to convert (video looks like it works fine though). Any other suggestions? If I can ever find a HD format of "Toy Soldiers", I'd also like to use this program to convert to DVDs, so hopefully it'll have that capability as well.

I got the 5 Star Collection Wide Screen Enhanced versions I stupidly bought on ebay before finding this great site. I can see about getting approved to upload it to myspleen and I can keep it there for about a week seeded, but hopefully someone can take it over after the week is up. I turn my PC off during the day and night, but would be willing to leave it on 24 hours for the week. If you guys are interested, let me know.

Actually it's the 2004 dvd released versions that are running on Cinemax in HD. Watching them is still awesome in HD even with all the changes. I just try to ignore those when I see them.
