The Power Rangers movie. I watched it on Netflix instant purely for nostalgia and was pleasantly surprised. It was consistently laughably awful. It is a must watch.
10 balls out of 10
You're not old enough to experience nostalgia.

Cube was great. The sequel was pretty much rubbish from what I recall.
There are two sequels and I think they are pretty interesting. They both reveal a little more about who is behind the cubes.
They probably aren't 'rush out to the threatre' good. But they are 'tivo them' good.

in back to the future 2, when doc takes marty and jennipher to the future, doc tells marty to "pull out ur pockets". he did not take off his pants to turn them inside-out.
To steal a line from someone else in the forum a long time ago...
Could someone please Google Translate this for me?
In 2015, Doc told Marty to turn-out his pockets, as was the fashion of the time. He was NOT asked to turn his pants inside-out.
EDIT: I said it better than doubleKO. ;)
But you were wrong and doubleKO was right.
Marty Sr. pulled his pockets out so it would sort of look like his pants were inside out, which is how all teens in 2015 wear their jeans.
Marty Jr. has his pants on inside out.
I've been listening to Robert McKee read his book Story. I think this is a pretty valuable book- though I think I only agree with about half of what the man says or thinks. But the act of disagreement also helps me learn the craft of storytelling.
I think you should check it out... but keep your mind open.
John Gardner's The Art of Fiction and On Moral Fiction are also similarly recommended.
I understand and totally dig your comparison of film frames to moments in time. As an audience, we experience life and film in sequential order. It's impossible for us to know what happens next with any assurety, thought we may speculate.
However, with a God's eye view, we see it all laid out at once. End, Beginning, Middle... It's all before us simultaneously. Want to change the middle? Go back to the beginning and make a change.
I love this idea and have thought of it often.
But I missed where you explained a connection to the FORCE?

Kind of sad that this movie's "prediction" was way off on just about everything except for gas prices. We look to be on target for the $7/gallon prices in 4 more years. Assuming we don't overshoot it. (Even more sad that the movie wasn't trying too hard to actually predict things and were probably trying to be as sensational as possible with things like gas prices. Instead, they were just right
They purposely created an unrealistic future since you can't really predict what the future will be like. They decided to just have fun with it.
Didn't I say as much? In the parenthetical?
I think you're on a fool's errand Xhonzi.
What's a matter, Ringo. You.... chicken?!?!

Creative Screenwriting Podcast is very good.
I also enjoy the Writing Excuses Podcast.
Sorry I don't have any links right now.
Exception: Unless the intent is to make something ridiculous.
I have to echo VideInfra. I personally doubt that anyone starting with George's PT base can deliver a satisfying PT to me. That's why I don't watch fanedits of PT movies (though I've tried a couple) and immediately dismiss something that includes Naboo or Gungans, etc.
Heaven knows, it' hard enough to dump all of the influences from the gPT even when you're trying. Let alone when you're selectively trying to include stuff.
I believe in the "spiritual laws" of writing over any "technical laws" that may be suggested...
However, I do think that deconstruction is a good way to see what makes your favourite movies tick. That's why I started the 3 Act Structure thread: http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/Act-Breaks/topic/11489/. If you want to learn more about 3 act structure, read a little about the definition and then start trying to break down the stories or movies you know. It really helps when you can discuss it with someone, especially if that other person challenges your assessment.
Similarly, I started this thread to look at trilogy structure (specifically the OT):
http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/Original-Trilogy-Times-Chart/topic/11455/
Another brief one on trilogy structure:
http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/A-New-Hope-Trading-on-Promises-or-Trailer-for-the-SW-Universe/topic/11379/
I thought there was one more because I remember writing some stuff not in those.
C3PX said in another thread but mentioned how it should have been here in the first place so I didn't repond to him there but instead quoted it here doesn't that make more sense I think it does I'm glad you agree:
I FINALLY found a port of System Shock 2 for OS X that works on my MacBook! I've wanted to play that game for years, but haven't had easy access to a computer that could play it. Going to tackle it ASAP, feel like I have been missing out on something all this time.
Sweet! Actually, I've never played SS2 because I never finished SS1. Everytime I think of playing SS2, I ususally think I should finish SS1 first... but then I don't. :(
All of the other threads here have been specific- how are you writing Star Wars stuffs...
I intend this thread to be a place people can discuss writing generally and useful links or books or whathaveyou on the writing process.

Oh, the magic of fanediting.
In my opinion:
The junkyard scene is the finest segment in any Superman film.
It even has Blade Runner posters in the background.
The success of this thread is a sad commentary on the State of the OT.com Union.

HEY! WHAT HAPPENED TO 1985AA MARTY!?!?! The ONE WITH the TRUCK?!?!?! 1985 Marty MURDERED him!
I realized soon after posting that, that 1985AA Marty did not die he just went back to 1955AA. You know, the one with Marty prime already running around as Calvin Kelin. What did 1985AA Marty do there? If he traveled back to the same place and time that Marty Prime did... they would have crashed and potentially killed each other. Let's say he arrived moments after Marty prime... How would he not screw that up? And if that Marty ever makes it to 2015, does the same stuff there, and then ends up back in 1955... THERE WOULD BE THREE MARTY's in that 1955!
Or, for a minute, let's assume that he went back to a 1955AA without 1985 Marty in it (so this would be 1955AB). 1985AA Marty grew up with parents that fell in love when George punched Biff at the dance. So, if he went back to 1955 (or AA or AB), he wouldn't know the bit about his dad getting hit by the car, wouldn't push him out of the way, so the regular 1955 would probably progress from that point. Causing 1985AA Marty to return to the future to 1985, not the 1985AA he had left. Which really just means that 1985 Marty and 1985AA Marty switched timelines. With the only possible difference that Doc would still be alive (assuming the letter bit went the same as it did in 1955AA) so I guess that does make it a 1985AB- but the parents would more or less be the same as the ones from 1985 prime.
Man, this Marty would probably not be happy with that present! What would he do? I mean, if Doc comes back the next day with the time machine, wouldn't he insist that he go back to 1955AB to try to get back to 1985AA?
So far, everytime I've lost it for a month or two... I always come back to it.
Though I hope I'm not really the "driving force". While I sort of don't trust anyone else to write a prequel trilogy that will please me... I would really like to be surprised and have someone do just that.
I've been listening to Robert McKee's abridged audio version of his book "Story."
He claims that Raiders of the Lost Ark was in 7 acts (or maybe 8).
!
I have to grab my copy of the book and see if he goes into further detail.
But he's not exactly detail oriented. He says, "Remember the classic ending to Empire Strikes Back? Vader says, "Luke, you can't kill me! I am your father!"" And he talks about Luke's reaction to this is first to try to kill Vader (?). And then he gets his hand cut off (?). I think Mr. McKee needs to see the movie again.
My family and friends who are normally part of my writing projects keep trying to talk me out of it. Somedays I'm still committed and feel like it's something I have to do. Other days, I realize that even if I go through with it
1: No one else will like it.
2: I probably won't even like it.
3: No one else will probably even read it.
4: I will have wasted my time.
5: I will probably never finish it.
With regards to the cooperation aspect... my negatvity one the subject has convinced me that my ideas are mostly so far out of line with other people's ideas that any cooperation would lead to compromises I wouldn't be happy with. Sometimes creative compromises lead to strength of screenplay. Sometimes they wreck it.
On a few of my other screenplays that I've worked on... I've had writing partners but I had to establish a clear hierarchy which some of my partners didn't like. I think I'd be okay with as much as a 60%/40% split. But since it's my story, I get veto power. Former writing partners wanted 50%-50% which I think for me was just too much abdication. I have worked with people on their scripts, and see myself as an advisor and consultant more than a "writer" and therefore yield to their creative choices.
Anyways... I'm just rambling now. So I should stop.

This is what I find puzzling, for a site like AVSForum...
People go ballistic when a film released on blu ray is modified by digital noise reduction, edge enhancement, poor color timing, loss of grain, etc. I would assume most everyone on this site agrees that those are bad things. Yet many of these same people are not bothered by the fact that a classic film is being repeatedly modified- and that this modified version is REPLACING the original film, which has not yet seen an HD release (and might not ever). Not only are some people not bothered by this, but there are people who take it a step further and apparently find it ridiculous that others would complain that the original film is not available in HD.
If people can be up in arms about a release like Predator: Ultimate Hunter Edition, why can't people be equally angry about not having an HD release of the original Star Wars trilogy?
Is it really that ridiculous that people are angry about not being able to watch the original Star Wars in HD?
Hmmm... :/ I was just about to start watching the Killing. It's been highly recommended to me by a few of my friends who know my TV interests.
Is your 0/10 ball rating based on the finale? Or just the show in general?
