What was the worst scene in....................................The Phantom Menace?

He shoots it's leg off by accident and it falls over.

I assume if goes into battle with it's shields down which makes a lot of sense.

He also releases the balls by accident (knocking out many tanks and droids) and makes a hover tank veer and fire on other tanks before crashing by accident.

Seeing as Anakin destroys the droid command ship by accident too there seems to be a whole lot of happy accidents going on during that conflict, like having all the droids get their power and commands from a single source.

Presumably this is why ROTJ is the very last ever episode of the saga because George thinks Palpatine is the only thing the holding the Empire together too.

Duh.... it was The Force...

Later, inside Obi-Wan's flashback of AOTC we get to see Anakin's flashback to how much he liked podracing, Kitster, and his mom. A little odd and felt out of place.

Inceptioned?

He should have hired an actress that knew and loved SW, an actress that wanted to throw herself into the role with passion.

This never seems to be the case.  Look at all of the comic book movies being made where the director has the passion for the character and the actors have to google the name as soon as they get the part.

Maybe, maybe not.  But I havent seen a comic movie with a lead actress' performance that was as bad as Portmans.  Portmans was the worst and she didnt want to be there.  And what an aweful time to pick such a shoddy performance, during the most anticipated films of all time.  Your point reminds me of the x-men movies though.  Halle Berry, Anna Paquin, and Famke Jansen werent too familiar with x-men prior to their filming, but they fell in love with it and even read some comics.  And they loved their job and wanted to be there, and their performances were great for 3 movies.  Not Natalie's though.  A good actor/actress will read the script, research the role and mentally prepare himself/herself for the performance.  Thats Luca$s' fault for hiring Natalie, and Natalie's for not being professional.

Fair enough.  It just always seems in the interviews that these actors/actresses say "I had no idea until I got the part!  Then I had some reading to do!"  Which just seems odd.  Maybe I'm wrong, but I have to assume that a large percentage of the acting community knows and loves some of these classic characters.  If I were making a big genre movie like that, I think I'd lean a little to the side of the people that are already fans.

EXCEPT- I guess if you want to bring YOUR vision/version of the characters to the screen, you don't want someone with THEIR OWN ideas.  Maybe that's why it's so common.

And Nick Cage as Ghost Rider is an... interesting example of when you cast the biggest fan to play the part.

The rocket boots are at once the best and worst additions to a Crackdown game I can imagine.

Pros:
Duh- they're rocket boots.

Cons:
They break certain aspects of the game.
No longer do you need to anticipate each new level-up of your agility skill so that you can go back to earlier parts of the game and go places you couldn't before... you just sort of rocket up there.
You don't have to be that careful as you climb or walk on high ledges- if you fall you can just rocket back up.
Driving at even 100 miles an hour doesn't really compare to having rocklets on your feet... so I hardly ever find myself driving- one of the greatest pleasures of Crackdown 1.
Until you level up your character- the rocket boots take up your grenade/utility slot.  So no grenades.  I mean, you can choose grenades... but how then would you use your rocket boots??!?

Combined with the wingsuit, it really is a very satisfying way to get around.  Actually you have to throw the helicopter in there too.  Compared to the first game- where verticality was an element, but you were always pulled back down to the ground-it's really great to be able to take to the skies in so many ways...

But I wish I hadn't had the boots since the beginning.  They're part of a DLC pack I bought before I played the game (when it was on sale).  I could just choose not to use them... shyeah riight.

How would YOU re-do the prequels?
Time

2 other things:

1. It's nice to see so much activity in this sub forum as of late.

2. Would this level of activity persist if we spun some of these conversations out into individual threads?  I think one of the problems we have here is that we discuss the same issues in lots of different threads and lots of different issues in the same threads.  It leads to a lot of ideas getting lost or repeated.  Just food for thought.

Surprises: Yoda

Surprises: Vader

Surprises: Luke and Leia

Surprises: (what else?)

How to handle Owen?

Who are the Clones?

All of these would be excellent threads.

Yoda is not a warrior, he is a trainer.  That's why he's not involved in the clone wars.

The real problem is that when we all saw ANH and the first half of ESB- the only "jedi" we'd seen were adult male human warriors.  (Ben, Luke and Vader).  The idea that this little smurf could be not only a jedi, but a powerful jedi held in reserve by the most powerful jedi hitherto seen was not even considered.  We didn't say, "Oh, I bet that guy is Yoda" because How Could He Be?

Assuming there are more than a few jedi in your new PT, and assuming that they are not all adult male warriors... The possibilty that someone would guess that Yoda was Yoda is much higher even though Yoda is never seen nor heard (but possibly talked up) in your new PT.

To be clear: I am on the "Talk up Yoda, Don't show Yoda" team all the way.  It's easily done, in my opinion.  However, the other restictions required to really maintain the surprise are much more burdensome and you must ask yourself how committed to the surprise you are.

For the record: I am for preserving all surprises.  Not because there is an audience in the world that would be fooled by them today... but because not doing so seems like cheating and poor storytelling.

Does anyone care about the 'extended universe'?
Time

Please also see this thread: http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/Whats-your-Personal-Canon/topic/13172/

As some of the others said: given a Yes/No option, I would have to side on the side of No.  There is far more bad EU than there is good EU.  However, since I have the option of being very selective- I will say that there is some EU that I like very much and other that is probably worse than the PT- except that its impact is much more contained.  Both in terms of what percentage of the audience has been exposed and what percentage of other Star Wars/EU stuff is directly affected.

And, as a quick aside, this is a fantasy universe that includes both Dark Magic users and cloning technology- I don't see how you can't have the darkest of dark magic users use cloning technology to achieve some kind of immortality and bring himself "back from the dead."

The game feels a lot like Borderlands with depth, Fallout 3 with co-op, and Left 4 Dead with freedom. A very pleasant mix, and one of the best and most enjoyable games I have played in a long time. I really like having run-ins with the occasional human enemy as well. To me that adds a whole lot to the game.

Well, I think I know what game you'll be encouraging me to spend my 20 hour credit on next summer will be!

So wait...are you saying that Obi-Wan and Owen should be linked somehow, instead of Anakin and Owen?

"Originally" (in the novelization) Obi Wan and Owen were brothers.

Whether they're brothers or not- I don't care.

But if you're going to hide a kid from a friend, or from friends of a friend?  Do you take that kid to that friend's family (or friends), or do you take him to someone you know you can trust, who knows of the friend and the danger of the kid being found, but has no direct ties to the friend?

Probably due to the novelization, but also due to this logic- I never expected Owen to be his actual uncle.  Within the scope of the original Star Wars, where Vader and Anakin weren't the same guy, Owen was probably Luke's biological Uncle....  But I think since the "I am your father!" reveal, you can't consider him the real uncle any more.  I'm not sure if the stuff in the RotJ novel was also in the Kasdan screenplay- and just cut from the film for time/flow... but whoever wrote it was obviously trying to save the whole "how could Owen have been his real Uncle?" problem.

At any rate- no Owen in the PT means you don't have to explain any of this and people can continue to assume whatever they want to assume...  The pre-PT 'canon' of Owen being Obi-Wan's brother... or the pre-ESB/post-PT 'canon' of Owen being Anakin's brother.

Hmm....  OB1...  O1... is there a clue in there somewhere?  Maybe they were brothers in the... serial number... sense of the word.
