I just started playing Crysis 2 on Hard.  My guy seems to be a total wrecking machine, but on the other hand, I pretty much am getting blown away by guys that are 100 yards away.  I don't have a sniper rifle, and the zoom on the guns I do have are decent, but not great.  So I'm finding myself taking cover and engaging in white knuckle shootouts with about half a dozen guys as I move from space to space.  If I get caught in the open, it's pretty much over... which sucks since there is no save feature and the checkpoints can be spread out.

It's fine- it's a way to play a game... But I'm hardly Rambo or Master Chief running and gunning.  Am I playing this game right?

I was really not digging this game when I wrote this a couple of weeks back. It's really grown on me since and I think it's all been that I've learned how to play it correctly- but I was also already playing it correctly- if that makes any sense.

I've always wanted games to be more "realistic" and for the tension to be more palpable, and as I've thought of the required game design to pull that off- and that's basically what Crysis 2 is. Even though you're "ultra powerful" you can still only take on 1 or 2 guys at a time. Bullets are still bullets and will still kill you. And death means more because it means losing 10-15 minutes of progress. However, it took me a while to get over the "frustration" part of that experience and to realize that it's what I've been wanting in games.

One of the things that seemed broken to me is that when I saw a room full of guys, my stomach sank a little bit because I was dreading the fight (and re-fight (and re-fight)) and I thought- "I shouldn't be fealing dread... shooting in a shooter should be fun!" But the dread came not because it wasn't fun, but because I realized I might die. So, in that sense, it was exactly what I've been asking for.

Also I've really figured out the sneak/stealth/cloak mechanic. That's helped as well.

Info: SAVE RIC!!!! (for TV Frink's AOTR Edit)

I don't know how it could be done but an alternate take could be to kill Panaka in the Coruscant battle (so he never sees  Ric's handsome face again) and have Ric live and marry Padme.  That would make Ralph Brown happy, keep the cries of "You killed the only handsome character" at bay and what's more move him from the A list to the 1 list characters.

Panaka say you better back down, fool.

No the PT wouldn't be about Rebellion at all. The Empire forms at the end of Episode II and Episode III deals with Anakin's full transformation to Darth Vader and the events of the Jedi Purge and the birth of Luke/Leia etc.

As I see it, Episode I would be about finding Anakin, the beginning of the Clone Wars, and all that and Episode II would be about the Clone Wars, it's end, and the beginning of the Empire.

In no way would the whole trilogy be about the Rebellion, which wouldn't even be former yet even by Episode III.

If the Empire existed for 40 years prior to ANH, and Luke is born 18 years prior to ANH, how could the Empire just get formed at the end of Episode II? Does Episode III cover 22 years?

Secret History of Star Wars- The Audio Book, An OT.com Production?

Nice! Finished your five minute demo, right? I don't have an audio format preference, and I would think something like an MP3 would be good enough for Zombie to check out and make sure he likes where this is heading.

I'm not the best file sharer, so someone can probably improve my recommendation: but isn't rapidshare still best for something like this?

Or I could add a folder to google docs for everything.

This is true.  So, if someone at TheForce.Net (*wink*) (<-wink) were to create a Kickstarter project that asked for pledges- and were it to be shutdown before completion, no money would actually change hands and yet the amount ($$$) of interest would be a matter of public record.

Haha, thinking about this just gave me a funny thought, that would be hilarious if a lot of this kickstarter crap bounces, leaving all these projects way less funded than they think they are.

Ah hem, anyway, I know money is only taken after completion for Kickstarters. I was simply saying that in my hypothetical Theoretical Kickstarter for the SW BDs, money would probably need to be taken and refunded at a later date in order to keep desperate OUT fans from pledging millions of dollars they could never make good on and skewing the numbers.

Well... they do place hold on your credit card.

Sluggo, Frink, and Bingo-

You three have been active in this thread without quite volunteering, so I've left you off of the chapter list for now.  If I was meant to take your snark as volunteering to read, please let me know and I will sign you up.

Others- I made assigments in the order your volunteered.  Chapters 2 and 3 are quite long, so if need to split those up, let's do that.  If you're cool with reading all of that, then have at it.  If there's a different chapter you'd rather read, let me know and we'll see what we can work out:

From 1st post:

Forward/Intro: Zombie

Chapter 1: xhonzi (~24 pages)
Chapter 2: 005 (~88 pages)
Chapter 3: Gaffer (~52 pages) (nice to have a female voice here, methinks)
Chapter 4: xhonzi(~12 pages)
Chapter 5: Akwat (~36 pages)
Chapter 6: Ziggy S. (~15 pages)
Chapter 7: <>       (~43 pages)
Chapter 8: <>       (~16 pages)
Chapter 9: <>       (~16 pages)
Chapter 10: <>      (~34 pages)

Conclusion: Zombie

*Chapter list and page length taken from e-book v 1.2.  Though the official text for this version would be either the first printed version or the revision due 2013.

Well, a big h-e-double hockey sticks-hockey puck to you xhonzi.

Sure, I'd like to contribute somehow.  I could try a chapter.  8 or 9 maybe.  Sluggo is busy with work, church stuffs and trying to spend time with the lady-friend, but I can make an attempt.

Lady friend? TAKE IT TO OFF TOPIC!

And I adjusted the Chapter assignments.

So.... anybody do any recording yet? My parents are visiting this weekend, but maybe I can get some recording done next.

Too bad there isn't a way to actually make a Kickstarter for this? Obviously it wouldn't work, because we wouldn't have control over an OT BD actually being made. But if there was such a thing as a "theoretical" Kickstarter, that still required funds being donated (dontae-ted?) to show seriousness (prevent fake pledges), with the promise they'd be refunded after a certain date, it would give an indication of how much interest there is in an OT restoration on BD (in no way doubting that the number of people interested in the OT is extremely high). It would be very interesting to see how high and how fast the pledges would sky rocket. I honestly think it would be in the high millions in a very short amount of time.

i think in the real kickstarter,

no money is actually taken until the project

is a reality. that way you only pay if the project

is funded and completed.

later

What claims that the Empire was around for 40 years at the time of ANH?

I think Zahn implies such a date in the Thrawn trilogy. It's a wonky timeline, but I do think it can be made to work with what's stated in the OT if you assume the Republic and the Empire were actually seperate entities that co-existed at some point in the past.

Hmm... any clarification on this would be great.

I looked through Heir to the Empire, and it mentions on the first page that Pellaeon has spent fifty years up to that point in the Imperial fleet. Heir takes place nine years after SW, so that indicates the Empire's been around since 41 BBY at the latest according to the book.

Hmm... (again)

That seems to me to be an extremely odd thing.  What are the chances that Zahn meant that Pellaeon had served the "empire" for 28 years and "the organization that wasn't the empire but all of the republic soldiers and sailors were told that it was the same Navy pre-empire and post-empire and so they were still enlisted and since it was the same Navy then as it is now and since it's now the Imperial Navy it must have been the Imperial Navy then as well even though no one ever called it that ever because what they used to call it was the Republic Navy because that's what it was and in fact it really was really different now that it's the Imperial Navy but no one says that because saying something like that in the Imperial Navy could get you killed even though you could have said something like that in the Republic Navy without worrying about it which is proof of the difference the difference that shall not be mentioned" for 22 years- therefore 50 years?

Donate $66 and have clone troopers come to your house and murder you.

Donate $1138 and be locked in a cell with Princess Leia for 24 hours.

Er... which Princess Leia?  The fictional one, or the current day Carrie Fischer?

Because I think you'll have way too many people pay $1138 for the first (there aren't enough 24-hours in a parsec to satisfy that kind of demand!) and none for the second.

Actually, there probably are a handful who would.  I just don't want to know.

If YOU Had Full Control of the Expanded Universe ...
Time

I don't know.  I like that Star Wars is so big, that 3 (6... 9... 12...) movies can't contain it and it spills into books, comics, TV shows, et al...

But I guess less is more?  Or is it?

When the EU was young (and so was I) I remember thinking it was better than other EU's (Trek, or... well... Trek, I guess) because there was continuity.  But then... it sort of grew so much it collapsed in on itself- so I withdrew as well (like most of you, based on many comments here over the years) and only accept very little into "my personal canon".  (There, I said it).

However, I really enjoyed the Force Unleashed games and think Star Wars is better off for having games like that, even if I don't think they should be considered canon.

So... I don't know.

THE END.
