Two Guys is definitely making it. No doubt. The stream of backers and $1000+ per hour has been amazing this past week. I don't know what did it. A couple of weeks ago the chance of success was very slim.

Between Two Guys Spaceventure, Tex Murphy - Project Fedora, Jane Jensen's Moebius, and Double Fine Adventure, I'm so happy as an adventure gamer. This is the resurgence I think many of us were waiting for. Adventure games never went away, and there have been some amazing titles in the last 10-15 years, but seeing all these older developers take back the genre from publishers is very exciting.

Two guys making it?  Pft... .doubt it.

Do you think the average citizen of the Star Wars galaxy would even be aware of the Force?

Still bothers me that the trip from Tatooine to Alderaan was like 2 minutes. I can't believe it was meant to be that way.

I like to think a lot of it was for the purpose of moving the story. It's fairly contradictory to call Tatooine remote, requiring quite an expense to travel, and then only taking 5 minutes to get to Alderaan. And the galaxy is a nice visual. As for the Imperial Fleet, that it is spread across at least a large portion of the galaxy makes sense, but it also implies significant travel times - otherwise we could probably have the entire fleet here in under half an hour. I like to think it's like parsecs and more about artistic license in telling a story than intentional decisions about physics.

I had a lot of these thoughts a couple of years ago here: http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/Space-War-Hyperspace-Fuel-etc-How-it-all-works-or-doesnt/topic/10621/

No one really wanted to talk to me about them then.  Maybe you'd like to talk about them now?

Also- not in that thread, but I do recall thinking that Tatooine->Alderaan was about 5 minutes, but someone suggested that they could be on the Falcon for days.  It all seems to make more sense to me that way.  Also- I think Zahn writes hyperspace as still taking significant time to travel.  Not compared to realspace, but still not instantaneous.

The Two Guys From Andromeda kickstarter is almost over and they're still not there. This could be a close one.

Yeah, it will be down to the wire.  I've got my fingers crossed!

Did you see the Warbird announcement that they're rolling the Indiegogo money into kickstarter and doubling everyone's Indiegogo pledges/rewards?  Might be a good time to jump on Warbird if that's your thing.

Well.. I can tell you the last movie I didn't see. There might have been a thread called "The Last Movie I Didn't See" at one point in time, but I couldn't find it.

(and this is more of a mini-series anyhow)

I didn't see Red Dwarf: Back to Earth. In fact, I didn't even know it existed. How did this not hit my radar?

I blame Ripplin.

Gold for $35 from Amazon. Voucher must be deemed before 22 June, but I think the card can be used anytime. Don't be an idiot like me and follow the directions to get the $15 off voucher before you look at the price on Amazon and say "that's not $35!"

RE: Bungie's Destiny-
I'm not sure where to find the news I heard. And I can't probably regurgitate it and do it justice. It was somewhere in the (pre)E3 news.

xhonzi is probably getting really excited or Halo 2 right about now...

:)

Actual LOL (but not really, I just put the actual part in there for Frink)

I do tend to make exceptions for the Halo series. But all of that other money I've been tightfisting went to Tex Murphy, so it's all been worth it.

Speaking of Halo, has everyone seen the Bungie Destiny news?

wow. no balls. this movie has no balls.

The only thing it didn't steal from the previous films is the one thing it should have - mood.

the big reveal was ruined by an earlier scene, I predicted the 'twist' that has no real bearing on the story anyway, any scenes that should be scary just come off as gross / disgusting.

Would have been nice to have the willpower to pull an anchorhead on this one.

Hmmm... disturbing this review is. It's trending fairly well on RottenTomatoes...

Ack! I just looked at the spoiler-free reviews in the Prometheus thread. Ack!

Kickstarter Tiers - Getting the OOT on BD

I meant the donations should be tallied each with a target number.

When the target is reached the prize should be unlocked to the general public.

So when enough donations of $500 are reached there should be a limited cinema release for all.

If enough donations of $1000 are reached there should be a general cinema release for all.

A single donation of $1 Million should trigger a general apology from Lucas.

A single donation of $10 Million should trigger a specific apology from Lucas in person to the individual donor.

The lower scale donations should be entered into tombolas and the winner of the lower drawer should be entered into the drawer two grades up.

This would allow for a small but probable chance that donating $1 could result in a personal apology from George Lucas.

Now I understand.  I don't think Kickstarter works that way, but I could be wrong.

Sorry if people are sick of me pimping the Tex Murphy kickstarter, but I promise this is on topic.

If you went over to http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/texmurphy/tex-murphy-project-fedora/posts/241765 and watched update #19 of the Project Fedora Kickstarter, you'll see that they sort of did what Bingowings was suggesting. I'm still relatively new to how Kickstarter works, but I think this might have been a first.

Before this post was made, which added a new "twist" to the donations, the campaign had totalled $380k and had only made ~$7k the day before. Once they announced that they had lined up a special reward (a $4k backer) everytime the community raised the total by $6k, the donations blew up, and $6k was earned almost instantly, triggering the first $4k backer. By the end of the night, about 10 hours later, they had earned a total of $40k from "regular joe" backers, old and new, and $20k from the special backers. Several hours after that, they had raised an addition $20k from the regular joes, and they crossed their goal line. At the start of Wednesday, they were ~$80k short of their goal. Thursday morning, they had already crossed it. Not by offering new rewards for individuals, but for offering community rewards based on the total donation.

Pretty fascinating stuff.

I haven't a clue what is on the bonus disc. I mostly bought at BBy since I had the rewards zone coupon that was going to expire. The bonus disc was nice too, but I haven't opened it yet to find out what's on it and the whole of the internet seems to not know or care.

Alright, the Bonus disc contains about 20 minutes of content in HD.

15 Minute ~"Making Mars" feature which I haven't watched.

And one 3 minute deleted scene and a 90 second extended scene, which have an introduction by the director. The deleted scene was funny, but won't be missed in the cut. The extended scene was only extended by a shot or two and was unncessary.

CP3S, I can't help but notice you completely left out Republic Commando. That was a good one.

Agreed, even though it was PT crap the game was very enjoyable, better than Jedi Outcast (which wasn't THAT great in the end).

I've never played Republic Commando, or even heard much about it. It came out during a several year period that I didn't play video games and had very little interest in them. Plus it has to do with the PT, so I never doubled back to check it out after picking up a new gaming habit.

Maybe I should check it out. I do have a hard time imagining it being better than Jedi Outcast though. I rather liked Outcast (especially the beginning before you get your force powers back, though they were kind of fun in that game). I even liked Jedi Apprentice, though, which most people don't.

As a dyed in the wool Prequel Hater- I really enjoyed Republic Commando. Not Dark Forces, but as close as you're likely to get these days.

Holy Carp!

Tex Murphy Kickstarter is blowing up today. They've been averaging about $9k a day for the past couple weeks. Today's haul so far is about $30k and I'd guess will be $40k by tonight. They only need another $50k to reach their goal, and have 9 days to do it.

I almost be surprised if it's funded by this time tomorrow at the rate it's going.

Whoppee!

It's all due to a clever scheme they've concocted. At $380k ($70k from the goal) they announced that they had seven backers who would pledge $4k every $6k between $380k and $450k. Meaning at $386k raised by the group, the first of the seven would donate $4k to take it to $390k. Then at $396k, the second of the seven would donate $4k to take it to $400k. And so on through to the end of the goal. I have no idea if they're the firsts to do this, but it seems to really be working for them.

After the movie, I immediately started to look high and low for the Imax poster: http://latimesherocomplex.files.wordpress.com/2012/02/johncarterimax_ref-for-printer.jpg?w=600&h=900

I could find it on ebay in quarter-size, which I had no interest in. But no one was selling it.

The best I could do for merchandise was spend Disney movie rewards points on the Thern talisman thingy necklace on there for my wife. It was pretty cool. (And free-ish)
