I'm not a religious person, so religious allegories and symbolism mean nothing to me.

In film class, a teacher would point out during a movie, "Note the Christ-like imagery," and I would just shrug while teacher oohed and ahhed.

It just seems lazy to me; a crutch.  A director's story isn't strong enough on its own, so let's invoke Jesus.  That makes it deep.

If I wanted to watch a movie about Jesus, I'd watch Passion of the Christ or something.

I hope this post doesn't offend anyone; it's not intended as such.

What if the allusions had been to ancient myths or some other religion?

Right.

I am a religious person, but whilst I easily recognize/enjoy themes from my own religious texts and principals, it doesn't stop me from recognizing/enjoying references to the other major religions, or what we call "mythologies" like the Greek, Roman, Norse, or Egyptian.

I mean... I saw Thor and thought it was pretty good.

When the old EU was being developed, the PT era was considered off limits by Lucas since he still held on to the possibility that he would make 1, 2, and 3.  Though this did eventually happen, I often wander how well a set of novels by, say, Timothy Zahn telling the story of Anakin's fall to the dark side might have turned out.

It was off limits, but it's interesting what little items the old EU writers assumed and put into their work. See this thread: http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/The-Prequels-as-Envisioned-by-the-Pre-PT-Expanded-Universe/topic/14053/ for some info.

Tron:U is a bit of fun. reminds me too much of Batman Beyond, though.

I enjoyed the first episode quite a bit. Yes, I agree that connecting the two movies is a bit hard and this seems to be going at making it even more difficult...

Everyone's legs are too long, and I was surprised at the innuendo, such that it was.

Batman Beyond successfully made someone else Batman... who else can claim that?

Danny Boy brings up a good question: if there is indeed a copy of a negative of the original star wars, but with recomped special effects and nothing else, would you be satisfied with this version? Or would it still not be THE original film for you?

The truth is, if the original special effects are replaced with new ones, it isn't the original film any longer, no I wouldn't be satisfied with such a version. A version like that is perhaps what most people hoped the Special Edition was going to be.

Don't start that again!

Prometheus is about Space-Jesus????

Pfft... That's Bollocks.

Bingowings said:

There are a lot of clues to the Space Jesus angle there's no denying that.

I see no way it's not about Space-Jesus. (Is the "Space-" prepend really necessary? Hasn't Jesus always been from Space/Heaven?)

greenpenguino said:

You might as well say that the film is about the space-french because there's a spaceship that looks like a croissant and there's of people running away from things.

Well done.

How about this angle-

Engineers create man, man is good. Engineers create more advanced creations... so far so good. Engineers, due to hubris, create most efficient lifeform ever- oops it kills them.

Man creates lever, lever is good. Man creates more advanced creations (like the hot pocket)... so far so good. Man, due to hubris, creates most advanced machines ever- oops robots take over the universe.

Since the beginning, the Alien series has been about synthetic humans as much as it's been about aliens. Why is that?

You do realize that in the comics the villain you talking about come back again and again, right?    Would you really have wanted these villains to be in only one episode?

As for your last point, yes, I know that.  And that's why I have a hard time reading American comics anymore because nothing is allowed to change in any significant way.

Have you checked into either Marvel or DC recently? Marvel, overall, hasn't had a "status quo" for about 8 years. Ever since Secret War, things have been pretty topsy turvy. People are now complaining about Event Fatigue... but at least not every issue is ending on the bridge of the Enterprise.

D.C. has also been shaking things up. I don't follow them as closely, but it's clear that they can't be blamed for "the status quo above all else!" either.

1992 Full Screen versions are the best way to watch Star Wars
Time

The "pan and scan has more resolution in the square box than the letterbox has in that same square box" defense is sometimes true. I said this of the DVDs- that the P&S versions had ~3 times the number of pixels for the space... except someone who knew told me that the P&S version was a blow-up of the Widescreen, so that extra resolution was all garbage anyways.

Oh, and if we could only get these '92 P&S VHS versions, I would like to upscale them to BD and make them 3D. Who wants to help me?!?!

Quatro the drink, not the spunky chanteuse.

It tasted vile but it was unique, especially as a mixer for meths (one imagines).

There is probably a picture of it's distinctive can on the interwebs.

I couldn't be bothered to find one so here is a picture of another carbonated drink :
