Have you logged any time on the 360 controller?  I really like the heft, the shape of it, and the button placement.  I was on travel (eating my tax payer paid Steak Dinner from the politics thread) and I took the Wii and left the 360 with the wife and kids.  Playing Metroid for a couple hours really made me think that boxy wii-mote looks really smart, but the corners were making my hands hurt.  It could be partially that I'm most used to the 360 controller, but I think there's at least some objectivity left there: the 360 controller is the best I've ever used.

Video Games - a general discussion thread
Time

I got a PS3 on Black Friday for Blu Ray playing.  I downloaded and played a couple of demos... and I found that I really hate the controller.  I've never owned a Playstation and I've never really played a game on one.  I found that I much prefer the "trigger and bumber" combo on the 360 compared to the "2 shouler buttons" or "half triggers" on the PS3.  It also put me off that the top shoulder buttons are considered to be the primary ones.  I saw that you could buy "triggers" to snap onto the bottom of the lower shoulder buttons, but that doesn't seem of too much use since those aren't generally the shooting buttons.  I also found it odd that with the left side D-Pad/Thumbstick placement that the D-Pad is primary except for when you need analogue control (in a game, for example).  But when you go back to the menu, the D-Pad is primary again.  I know the D-Pad on the 360 controller sucks, but it's also not used a whole lot.  Finally, it's a lot easier to say to my wife "Hit Y!" than "Hit Triangle!" Seriously, if ABXY is good enough for Nintendo and MS (and keyboards the world over) why do we have to have trisyllabic words for the buttons on the PS controllers?

And I really hate that they all have X buttons but they're not in the same place.  Especially on the MS vs Sony deal, since the buttons have the same layout, but X is in different spots.

All in all, I find it sad since it means I probably won't go back and forth and play games on both much.  There is that "Shadow 6" controller, but it seems that it only solves half of my problems.  :(

Other than that, the system is great.  It's really small compared to the Toshiba HD-A2 it's replacing.  Man that was a big HD-DVD player.  And it took a good 45 seconds to boot up.

Aliens Vs Predator Comics (some movie SPOILERS, I guess)
Time

I had never read these until recently.  I saw the 1st AVP movie in theatres- I got a ticket for free when I bought the Predator DVD and I still felt ripped off.  I was pretty disappointed by that movie.  I was older and wiser (and once bitten) when I rented AVP:R.  I honestly didn't think it was much of an improvement, but it was fun to see (sort of, it was so dark!) the hybrid design realized on the screen.

At any rate, I've been picking up several of the Dark Horse Omnibuses recently and I did indeed pick up AVP V. 1 and 2.  It's a little hard to remember the excitement there was when the Alien skull first appeared in the Predator ship at the end of P2 and the possibilites that suggested.  And a little hard to put yourself in the mindset of an Aliens or Predator comic reader who would be reading the first stories of both of them together...  But still, there are some really good stories in there.  Some real stinkers too, but you can mostly ignore them and focus on the good ones.  They really take the story places the movies (A, P, and AvP all) really never went.  The Aliens movies are always hinting at what the Company wants to do with the Aliens, but you never get to see anything ever come of that.  Well, the comics actually branch out enough and consider other storylines.

Well, that's a bit of a ramble.  Look into them if you're kind-of interested.

Umm... So you and Warbler would have some great conversations, eh?

Sure why not?   He can't me...

It's true - I can't you.  Only you can you.

I meant to say He can't hate me.

And my pic isn't real?  How dare you?  How do we know you're real?  I've never seen you in a movie.

Irregular sequels and spiritual sequels?
Time

But wouldn't those who boycott Twilight due to violence against women potentially also say and try to convince others that it's not worth watching as part of their boycott?

It wouldn't work very well to say, "Don't see it because it promotes violence against women... however... it is AWESOME!"

When you could say, "Don't see it because it promotes violence against women.  And don't worry on missing out on anything cool, because it is TEH SUCK!"

Maybe there should just be some sort of really embarrassing avatar (instead of a generic avatar), used as the default. That way, people will change it as soon as possible, rather than putting it off too long.

I suggest the following bad avatars:

Jar Jar Binks

Young Anakin

Anakin <3 Padme

Teletubbies

I <3 the PT

Fat Dancer

Lolcatz

Richard Simmons
