Why Can't We Respect Other Peoples Beliefs?
Time

It looks like I'm a little late to chime in here, but I had to say: Boost- I totally get where you're coming from.

I am Christian and I have a lot of friends who aren't.  They are my friends and we do get along wonderfully.   They ask me questions (or not) and I discuss my religion/faith/beliefs/whathaveyou openly.  I think they know that I am accepting of them even though they don't share my beliefs and that I won't try to ram them down their throats.

BUT!

You are right!  At the end of the day, my understanding of the Gospel is that:

1) Life is short.
2) Eternity is forever
3) Christ wasn't kidding in John 3:3 when he said that there were entry requirements to getting into Heaven.

So, if I really cared about any of my friends... the last thing I'd do is sit there and not do what I could to "convert" them to Christ.  There's a decent analogy in a burning building.  If you notice that your appartment is on fire, it's your moral responsibility to tell as many people in your building about it and save everyone you can.  Maybe you pull the fire alarm.  Maybe you knock on doors as you collect your family and run down the hall... but how would you feel if your neighbors were burned alive and you didn't take the chance to warn them, even though you had the opportunity to?

4) While you might be able to force someone to become a member of your religion, you can't force them to share your belief and faith.
5) You must be tolerant of others who don't share your beliefs.
and
6) Tolerance sometimes means pretending 1-3 aren't true when in polite company.  Ignoring the elephant in the room, as you said.

Being polite, if you think about it, always is some kind of charade.  It's some kind of lie, right?  It's dishonest, as you said.  Bold faced honesty is not something we value much in society.

You know that you're a Star Wars fan when...

You know everything on Star Wars, like all movies and shows despite what others say (except Squishies, if it happens), collect anything Star Wars to your liking, owning all Star Wars DVDs and toys, and challenging your friends to Star Wars trivia.

YOU LEAVE XHONZI ALONE!!!

I didn't suppose TC4E meant me until I read Frink's post.  I guess it sort of has to be a reference to my other posts, but I wouldn't claim to know everthing about Star Wars (just everything in general!) and I wonder what "like all movies and shows despite what other says" means and how I left that impression...  Hopefully it doesn't mean that I like all Star Wars movies and shows since I hate the prequels with such a passion that I dispute their very existance!

At any rate, it's inspired 5 new YKYASWFW's:

1. You love the Prequels even though they are crap.
2. You hate the Prequels even though they aren't that crap.
3. You own DVDs of the Prequels even though you hate them.
4. You hate the Prequels so much that you maintain they don't exist!
5. You own DVDs of the Prequels even though you maintain they don't exist!

Right to Left Action in Film and Television
Time

I didn't go to film school, so this was a new concept to me when I read about it a couple months ago: "Normal action" in Western Movies and TV occurs left to right and "unnatural action" occurs right to left.  I actually read about it in connection with a Lost episode.

I'm trying in vain to find an article with a good description, so I'll do my best to give one here: The Western mind is used to reading left to right (duh!) but what you might not know is that most action in Western films also generally depict action in a left to right way.  We're so used to it that when action flows from Right to Left, that it causes a sense of uneasiness in the viewer- subconciously cluing them in that not all is well with the world.

So... what do you think?  Do you think it works?  Can you think of any good examples?  This guy http://www.brightlightsfilm.com/38/clones1.php (about halfway down, just below the "goofy couple smiling at each other and one is wearing a ridiculous hat" picture) cites the clone battle at the end of Attack of the Clones as a good example.

It's had me thinking... is this why they flip shots sometimes?  Does unflipping them potentially disturb the left->right/right->left flow and the subconcious effect it's supposed to have?

LOST
Time

Sooo.... tonights Richard episode?  Full of answers or full of frustration?  There will definitely be the opportunity for answers... but the show writers know how to constantly avoid giving any up for their dedicated viewers.

Case->Point: Consider last week's exchange between Widmore and Saywer:
S: What the big deal, Hoss?
W: Please Mr. Ford, do come in.
S: You want to destroy this island and all of my friends, Chuck
W: You don't really understand anything, do you?
S: Maybe I do and maybe I don't.
W: Well, I could simply explain it to you, but there are still 8 episodes left and I've signed a contract not to say anything remotely useful until the last 5 minutes of the final episode.
S: And what if I shut the door so the viewers at home can't hear us?
W: Eh... that will work.

I think Jude Law would play a good young Palpatine.  Either pre-PT territory or the dreaded Emperor Clones.

I also was thinking that Tim Dalton:

Could make a good Karrde...

but he's probably too old so I'll say he'd make a great Garm Bel Iblis.

And This guy (whoever he is?):

Would make a great Anakin Force Ghost if they ever decide to tinker around with the canon ending of Return of the Jedi.

1.  I'm not sure you'd get enough money.

But I thought most Americans wanted this legislation?  Surely that means they want to pay for it with their own money?  And so many wealthy liberal media types want it so bad... I mean... Oprah could fund it all by herself if she wanted to, right?

but I do like xhonzi's plan.   Perhaps we could fund it instead with a National lottery?  People love playing the lottery and they'd still have a choice.   They could chose not to play the lottery.

I'll have to think on this... but it sure beats paying for it with tax dollars.
