My S'lution to Gov't H'care
Time

Arguably, the defense of this nation defends you whether you like it or not, because it's defending a whole nation and not just a single person.  It's a "national" issue and it's provided for in the Constitution.

Healthcare is a "personal" issue because the fees are being paid one patient at a time.  90% of the people paying for it won't be protected by it.  It's definitely a "Person A makes Person B pay for Person C" proposition.  If person or People A care so much about People C, then let them pay for them and leave Person B (that's me) alone.

My S'lution to Gov't H'care
Time

Here's my solution:

Have the gov't set up a fund.  When you file your taxes, you can elect to send your return or any percentage (even 0%) of your income to this fund.  From this fund the gov't can provide healthcare for the uninsured.

Since "most" of the American people "wanted" gov't run healthcare, finding moneys for this fund shouldn't be a problem, right?  And so the people without healthcare can have it, the people who want to pay for it can, and the people who don't want to have anything to do with it can stay as far away as possible!

There's your "Public Option!"

What do you think?

You know that you're a Star Wars fan when...
Time

This was a pretty good time on r.a.s.s.m. back in 1996 or so...

You know you're a Star Wars fan when:

You're riding through the woods on your bike and you accelerate by pressing down on your right toe.

You say "Punch it Chewie!" to whomever is driving when the light turns green.

You go to optometrists and heckle the clientele by shouting: "You will pay for your lack of vision!"

Squishies? New animated series?
Time

I'm a little mixed on the subject.  One the one hand, it sounds incredibly stupid.  On the other hand, I have enjoyed the 5 or 6 episodes of Marvel Super Hero Squad I've caught with the kiddies.  It's entirely silly and actually quite amusing.

So... I guess it could be good if handled well.  However- I don't think a title like "Squishies" is really a good sign that they're off to a good start.  :(

Star Wars: New Animated Series in the Works
Are you ready for Star Wars to get... Squishy?

March 17, 2010 - Star Wars: The Clone Wars is running strong on Cartoon Network, while the long-talked about Star Wars live-action series is still under development – but now it seems a second Star Wars animated series is in the works as well.

IESB reports that George Lucas is in pre-production on the new series, which they say is believed to have the working title of – wait for it -- Squishies.

Keep in mind IESB says this show will be aimed at pre-school to kindergarten aged kids, based off of the Star Wars: Galactic Heroes toy line, which is aimed at the same very young demo. This actually sounds remarkably similar to The Super Hero Squad Show, the very young-skewing animated series centering on Marvel Comics characters and based on the successful Marvel Super Hero Squad toys.

Will adorable booze serving R2D2 and Lil' Slave Leia be a part of the new Star Wars animated series?
As The Clone Wars has continued, it's included increasingly dark material – everything from zombies to Jedi being tortured to death. Considering that less than ideal content for very young viewers, Galactic Heroes (or Squishies) is likely seen as an alternative for the very youngest Star Wars fans – or potential Star Wars fans.

IESB says it's not clear yet what network might air the new Star Wars animated series.

Luke VS the Emperor- What if Vader hadn't been there?
Time

I'm cribbing from myself here, but here are some additional thoughts of mine from another thread:

http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/STAR-WARS-Movies-Animated/post/403117/#TopicPost403117

In trying to craft a "realistic and satisfactory" arc for Anakin that includes a "fall/seduction" to the Dark Side... I've analized Luke's "lean to the Dark Side" at the end of Jedi.  It's the only concrete example of how the Dark Side can overtake an otherwise good Jedi.  And the conclusion I've come to is that the scene, on the surface, is broken to me.  Palpatine claims Luke will be his new apprentice if he can take out Vader.  Assuming this is true, why would Luke "stop killing the bad guys" if the Dark Side had compelled him to kill Vader?  Wouldn't he follow through and take out Palpatine as well?  He would have tried, at least, right?  Either he would have killed Palpatine or would have been killed by Palpatine.  Maybe I can see him attacking Palpatine and being toyed with Cat->Mouse until Palpatine traps him and takes him prisoner for further indoctrination...

But I digress.  My point is this: Palpatine appears to not have a very good exit strategy from DSII at the end of RotJ.  This makes him look a little stupid.  And how exactly Luke would end up being his apprentice in any scenario- I can't see it working out.  IF you take into account Palpatine using cloning and not fearing his own death... then he is poised to use his death as a means of converting Luke to the Dark Side.  If Luke wins his "duel" with Vader by tapping into the Dark Side, presumably he then turns on an undefended Palpatine.  The Light Side would not allow Luke to kill an undefended man, no matter how evil he might be.  But the Dark Side!  The Dark Side would compel Luke to take revenge on the man, to blame him for the making Luke kill his own father!  It was Palpatine's fault for corrupting him afterall!  So, Luke cuts him down!  Is his Journey to the Dark Side complete?  No, what nonsense!  But his Journey to the Dark Side has begun.  And Palpatine, having cheated death, will be there to guide him in.

Anakin's first temptation as a Sith should not have been to murder innocent Jedi children.  Murder.  Innocent.  Jedi.  Children.  It goes against everything the man stood for 10 minutes prior.  Sending him to despose of the Separatist Leaders is much better.  It's not murder, it's a military assassination to end a war.  Palpatine is a commander and Anakin is a soldier- and the war does need to end.  So you can justify it, from a moral perspective.  And using the Dark Side to control enough power to bring to pass a good thing... THAT is a temptation for a Jedi.

The Emperor's New Clones (Dark Empire books)
Time

This conversation (for me) is spiritually living on here.

Here's an excerpt:

Perhaps the human clones "don't work" because they "have no mind."  Their bodies are completely functional, but their brains just don't work.  They simply lie as if in a coma.  But Palpatine, seeking immortality through manipulations of the Dark Side, is also using the clones- not to build an army, but to create an infinite supply of Palpatine bodies which he can use to transfer his dark soul into.  So this gives Palpatine a motivation for the prequels besides simply "conquer the known galaxy."  But, probably best, in my opinion, it gives you a reason that Vader would server Palpatine and the Dark Side.  If transferring your soul is one of the hardest "spells" in Dark Side Magic and Vader has to learn it from Palpatine and also gain proficiency at using the Dark Side...  well, it sure beats the "Join me and the Dark Side so that your wife can live forever.  By the way, she's dead and you killed her, but joine me anyway." logic of Revenge of the Sith.
