I liked it too. Certainly doesn't deserve to be mentioned in the same breath as TPM.

I think RLM is a pure attention whore (targeting something already unpopular etc.). Why would I waste 2 hours or so listening to someone's opinion when I have my own? I already know why I don't like the prequels.
Sad thing is seeing comments of people after seeing the videos such as: "I didn't realise before how flawed the prequels are" etc. To get your opinion changed by some attention whoring crap is another poof that humans are basically a dumb herd.
I hated the prequels when I first saw them. (Still do, just for the record.)
This hate was primarily an emotional response, as hate tends to be.
Most of the time, our reactions to art and other things start out as an unexamined emotion- and then we use facts and logic to back up that emotion. Especially when someone didn't have the same emotional response and asks, "Why did you hate it?" We come up with some reasons, more logical than emotional, and that is our mental explanation for why our emotional reaction was what it was.
When I came across RLM reviews of the PT, I already knew I didn't like the movies. I had my reasons for why, but I never spent the time to dissect the rotting corpse the way RLM did. I found his analysis to be correct (mostly) and to be educational.
He didn't change my opinion, but he did inform it.
Upside Down -
This isn't a great movie, but it was such a unique experience that I can't fault it for its faults.
ITS FAULTS:
We watched it in 2 parts, and I felt that the first half was stronger than the second. The ending sort of comes up too fast and the resolution to the central plots comes too easily. But, it was still a lot of fun.
Somehow this movie flew completely below my radar, though given the actors, the sci-fi hook, and the 3Dimensionalities of it... I'm really surprised I didn't hear about it until recently. It seems like I'm the perfect audience for it, yet none of their marketing made it to my face.
4.5 upside down CG martinis (okay, just a little faulting it for its faults)

Been playing a bit of Halo: Spartan Assault but I've lost my save games so I'll have to start again. I've tried playing with an xbox 360 controller plugged in, it's different but not really easier.
What's your overall opinion? I still haven't gone to W8, so I'm out of the will for the moment. I should have tried it when I was at my folks place for my sister's wedding, since my pop has several W8 machines.

I think modern games are making me stupid and impatient.
That's what I thought when I was playing Antichamber! You just need some (arguably badly made) indie games in your life to sharpen you back up.
RE: family share
Very nice! Yeah, that will solve at least one of my problems... now what about splitscreen games recognizing player #2?
DoubleKO- are you going to join the Steam OT.com group? I can pretty much guarantee you'll be player of the week by the end of the month.

Nice! Very happy to hear it, valinkrai.
Gorgeous game, isn't it? Even with the graphics being a bit dated, it is still a pretty game.
Somebody quote valinkrai so I can see what he's saying.
If he's finished Bioshock, I think that earns him one unIGNORE!

^ Is it wrong that I'm a little bit turned on by this?
I just heard about the talkie version of Last Crusade: Graphic Adventure that, apparently, only came out in Japan for this system called the 'Marty'. There are were clips of it on youtube... but they've all been pulled down.
More of a Disco Stu reference. And it's not meant to be a very good one.

Porkins never said that though. It was Gold Five, who was one pretty cool customer under fire...
Heh heh I know, but I want the phrase to originate from Porkins. Then Pops (I think that was the Gold 5 pilot) and other Rebel pilots adopt the phrase when Porkins gives up the thug life and joins the Alliance.
Man, everybody wants to kill the Porkins love by (correctly) attributing his lines to Gold Leader: http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/My-Fake-Star-Wars-Band-Rock-Band-Porkins-and-the-Came-From-Behinds/post/569310/#TopicPost569310

Disney animated classics presents: SHADOWS OF THE EMPIRE
Given that Disney are behind the franchise now, wouldn't it be great to see this done as a hand-dawn (But CGI enhanced) animation epic. Obviously you can't do it live-action because the cast are too old. But the old gang could easily voice it and with Disney's top artists on the case this could be beautiful.
There is a huge pre-existing SOTE fanbase out there, that have already bought the game, read the book and built the model kits. It seems like a financial no-brainer for Disney. They wouldn't even need to pay a big team of people to do pre-prodution designs. It's all be done, the ships, the costumes and the locations have been envisioned in meticulous detail. I think they would have to re-tool Dash Rendar to be less obviously a stand-in bargain-basement Han Solo. More of his own guy.
I recall the launch for SotE being something along the lines of "a movie release with all of the trappings! (but no movie)".
There was a soundtrack (which was pretty good), posters, comics, toys, t-shirts, etc...
If they made a movie... I just don't know.

I'm in love with Rebel Strike's II and III. So far, the closest to an OT experience that I've gotten from a video game.
Also, Shadows of the Empire N64. The first (and only) N64 game I've ever owned, and I'm liking it a lot. Once I can get past the first stage, that is. I'm kind of a sucky gamer. :)
I didn't have a Gamecube, but I did buy a Wii. My first 10 or so Wii games were Gamecube games, and RS II & III were among them.
I've put AT LEAST 10 minutes into each of them. I just couldn't handle the control scheme. My controllers all had a huge dead zone, and I found I could't make precise movements at all. And then the button placement was really weird.
Owning the games, I thought I'd pop them into Dolphin or whatever other emulators were available at the time. And 1. I found out you couldn't make your own gamecube disc images, so I'd have to go and find a pirate version (which I did) and then 2. No emulators really work with those games.
So I gave up. But I think from time to time that I'd like to play them... if the controller/emulation situation ever changes. Here's hoping someone makes a full on PC port/remake.
Didn't you know?
All Jedi use lightsabres. And wear Ben's hermit disguise. And twirl. And know that the highground is the best ground there is. And are generals. And can fly.

Star Trek Into Darkness.
I've heard a lot of 'love 2009, really liked STID" and a lot of "hate both of them" "they're the 2 best 'Trek movies ever" kind of commentary... but I haven't heard/seen my response- detest 2009, quite enjoyed STID.

Hmmm... I'm in the "fairly enjoyed '09 (even with all the stupid stuff in it) and utterly loathe Into Darkness camp"... so...
I guess I need to read more articulated "utterly loathe" reviews. I don't know where they are coming from.
I watched Star Trek 2009 about a month ago. Part to see it again before STID and part to see if my negative memories of it had been trumped up by time (the memory cheats).
I still really disliked it. My misgivings are on file here somewhere.
Because I'm a "responsible adult" these days, the wife and I usually end up watching movies in 2 (or heaven forbid 3) sittings, which I'd prefer not... but it would mean watching one non-kiddie movie a month or so, which I can't say sounds any better.
That being said, night one of ST2009 ended with Scotty's Super Fun Water Slide after conveniently being teleported into the coolant tank. This of course, right on the heels of the Old Spock scenes, which are some of the most illogical (see what I did there?) scenes in a very illogical movie.
The upshot of watching movies in different sittings (not one that outweighs the down, but it's what I've got) is that it's easier to evaluate one part separately from another. If a movie has a stronger front end or back, it's harder to realize that when you watch them "all mashed up together" like that. :)
So the scene that directly follows the Scotty Slide is probably the one I would say is the best in the film- when Kirk has to compromise Spock's emotions. So much better than the "your mom goes to college is a human" bit with young Spock at the begining.
And then the ridiculous ending starts. Well, it was 7 minutes that I really found myself enjoying the picture.
So... last night we checked out Star Trek Into Darkness. I was prepared to hate it, given my reaction to 2009's outing, and I'm generally unimpressed with Kurtzman and Orci across the board. I spoiled everything in the movie back when it had its Australian release several weeks ahead of the domestic one. I believed the "callbacks to the good movies" were going to be lazy and stupid... and I thought the marketing/PR moves with the "is Cumberbatch Kahn? mystery to be really stupid. (Of course he is!) Bringing Kahn back for the 2nd movie seemed to be really uninspired.
All of that to say that I fully expected to hate STID. I would like to say that I give all movies a chance, even if I have certain expectations (likely untrue)... and I'd like to use STID as an example of that.
I quite enjoyed it! Sure, there were nits ripe for the picking... but somehow this movie won me over and engendered enough goodwill in me that those issues did not get in the way of my enjoyment.
There's not a lot more to say about it than that. I've heard a lot of 'love 2009, really liked STID" and a lot of "hate both of them" "they're the 2 best 'Trek movies ever" kind of commentary... but I haven't heard/seen my response- detest 2009, quite enjoyed STID.

But not a single mention of the Force Unleashed games?
That is the single worst SW game I have ever played. I wish I could delete the brain memory of it. The storyline is insulting to the characters of Vader and Emperor, to say the least. Some dumb worthless character defeating both Emperor and Vader. Stupid and ridiculous. I mean how could a crap like this get a green light at LucasArts? Oh I forgot... it was developed by LucasArts. No wonder the new owners closed it down.
Ouch! I can tell you really disliked it. There's no accounting for taste, I guess.
I knew it had a bad rep, but I figured that mostly came from people who never really gave it a shot.
As far as insulting to the characters- you're probably right. But I didn't hold the game up to the same standards as a book or movie as far as that goes. I took it as a fun, non-canonical romp in a universe I enjoyed and it had some great environs.
Much like the Dark Forces series- I really enjoy the games and the stories, but I don't consider them canon.
That's exactly how I viewed the game when playing it. From the start I thought to myself, "Vader had an apprentice? What? No he didn't... This is what it would be like if he did have one, and if it was the most powerful jedi ever."
Not to get too philisophical, but it's like a musical. In musicals, people dance and sing. The characters they are playing probably didn't dance and sing, but that the language of the medium. It's the way the story is conveyed, and not the story itself.
If you watch the cutscenes of the Force Unleashed, Starkiller is far more restrained in his use of the force than when compared to the gameplay version of himself. I think the language of the game is "game" and has to be taken to be more "over-the-toppy" than the underlying reality they are "gamifying".
Playing a wimpy Jedi would be no fun. Playing a god like Jedi is (arguably) fun. Fun wins.
