Anakin should have become Darth Vader before the last 10 minutes of Episode III
Time

I’ve felt (like many others) that the ending of Revenge of the Sith feels really rushed, and that Anakin should have gotten into the Darth Vader suit before the very ending of the last movie. (Also Padmé shouldn’t have died onscreen, but that’s probably a topic for a whole 'nother thread) I had though we were gonna see him “hunting down and destroying the Jedi Knights” instead of the Clones. I wonder if it would have been much better had he gotten his Darth suit more towards the beginning, or at least the halfway point of ROTS.

Not from the era without thinking longer about it.

From the 90s though the things that I recall immediately recall are the X-Files episode Small Potatoes https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uqNC2K4YbK0

And the ending of this Spaced episode https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5XMkW1btoEM

Oh this too https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EZnsOZsA7_4

Thanks! Yeah, I should have mentioned it in my original post, 90s is good too. I just didn’t want really modern shows.

When and why did Lucas decide to make The Emperor a Force-user?
Time

Yeah it would have to be during Empire’s production, as it’s made pretty clear in that movie in his scene that he’s into the Force("there is a great disturbance…), and that’s only taking the original version into account(no dumb Anakin lines).

I do think it’s cool how in Jedi we get to see Darth Vader kneeling before someone. And only recently I’ve thought that in SW, Vader answers to Tarkin, In ESB, EVERYONE answers to Vader, and in Jedi, Vader answers to the Emperor. Just something that crossed my mind.

I really like how the Emperor is presented in Jedi, but the prequels turned him into like the devil, which I don’t believe was ever the intention.

25 Years of the Special Edition
Time

Well, 25 years ago today the special edition of Star Wars was released in theaters. The special editions have now been around for a quarter century. Did you go to the theater? (I was not yet born) (That’s probably been discussed before I’m sure, but this thread is specifically about the 25 years thing)

Also of note, in this NY Times article from 25 years ago today, it reads,
“But the temptation will be to use effects because they can be used, to revel in technique rather than story. Mr. Lucas’s films have mostly avoided that temptation, but is it possible that with the tinkering in this ‘‘Special Edition,’’ he may have been slightly lured by the dark side of the Force (and its marketing potential)?”

Hmmm…

This might help as a start…

I did look at this page, and there’s not a whole lot in the realm I was looking for. I also wondered if there were specific things that stood out to forum members. And I know things are missing, like I didn’t see reference to that Facts of Life episode I mention in my OP. I also know of a mention of Luke Skywalker in a Silver Spoons episode, which wasn’t on the list either.

Music change in Empire Strikes Back
Time

In Empire, there’s a moment that I’ve always loved, and it always made me very emotional, and upon a recent TV airing(I didn’t watch the whole movie, just caught the end) on TNT I noticed a change from what I was used to. (I mainly watch the original versions) When Leia and the gang finally blast their way to the hangar bay, they get there just in time to watch Slave I soar away. The camera cuts to Leia’s face, and Carrie Fisher just has the best look of utter despair and heartbreak on her face as all that is heard is Slave I’s rockets flying away. She may have lost her beloved Han forever… Then you hear Threepio yell as he cuts into her moment, "Chewie, they’re behind you!"and more blasterfire- you know the rest.

Well anyway that was a perfect scene, and part of what makes it so perfect is the lack of music. well now, in the new version there’s music. Why was this changed? It had to be just to urk people who enjoy well made scenes, because as great as the music of JW is, this scene was better without it.

I never see this change talked about, so I wanted to devote a thread to it and see if there’s others who hate this as much as I do.

ANYONE COMING TO THIS SCREENING OF ESB?
Time

Clicked on the link and they did clarify “1997 Special Edition version”. Interesting they specifically say 1997. Wonder if this means they’re showing a 97 print? Most likely not. They’ll probably just pop the 4k blu-ray in a dvd player, but it would be cool if they showed 97. I still prefer the original version of the movie, but the 97SE at least still has Jason Wingreen’s voice and the original Emperor.

70s/80s Tv Episodes that mention/reference Star Wars
Time

I’m trying to figure out all the TV episodes from the golden age (so the time the movies were out and popular, meaning 70s and 80s; this isn’t the thread for bringing up Family Guy) that reference Star Wars in any way. Like for example, Michael mentions Darth Vader in a Knight Rider episode. And the girls say they went to the Empire Strikes Back in a Facts of Life episode. That kind of thing. There’s more I’ve got, but I’ll leave some for the discussion.

Most Powerful Quote in all the Star Wars films.
Time

Uncle Owen’s “that’s what I’m afraid of” gives me chills, knowing about the reveal in the next movie; as well as Ben’s explanation of how Luke’s father died. Another chill inducing line is, “You must do what you feel is right of course.”

A line I’ve always loved in Empire I don’t hear people ever mention is after Han hits Lando in the prison cell and he (Lando) says, “I’ve done all I can! I’m sorry I can’t do more but I’ve got my own problems!” To which Han replies as he lies on the ground, struggling to get up, “Yeah, you’re a real hero…”

What is your personal canon?
Time

Original unaltered trilogy
Thrawn trilogy of books
Holiday special

I really don’t get too caught up on what’s canon, and what’s not. And even if I don’t consider something in my personal canon does not mean I refuse to watch it. There are things about the other movies I really like (specifically TFA, which I would include if it didn’t contradict Heir to the Empire). This is just the stuff I consider to be the main story(and the best content) in my head. I’m yet to delve into more of the EU, but from what I’ve read, I anticipate liking it.

Ooh, maybe the Muppet show episode too

Can we get some love for Yub Nub?

I always get a little frog in my throat when the strings swell up and turn Yub Nub into an incredibly emotional moment as luke sees his father join obi wan and yoda.

I love it. I hate the change.

Agreed 100%! For everyone who says the new music is more emotional and yub nub is just silly I try and explain this, but if you don’t get it, you just don’t get it.

Favorite OT Color Grade (Official Releases)
Time

I actually really like the colors on the GOUT, and while the quality may not be the greatest, I still love those DVDs, and don’t find the quality to be as bad as most say (although still unexcusable as the best official release of such classic movies). Even though I know the op said official releases, I’d say 4k77 has the most eye pleasing color palette to me.
