Jedi or Return?
Time

I’ve always referred to Return of the Jedi as Jedi when shortening the title for casual conversation(Star Wars, Empire, Jedi) but I’ve seen some people use Return. Which do you use?
Did anyone switch to Return when The Last Jedi came out? (I didn’t feel that that changed anything. I just say Last Jedi when I’m talking about it, and I try to talk about it as little as possible, as I’m complaining when I am)

Star Wars vs. A New Hope - Which do you say and why?
Time

I pretty much always just call it Star Wars. I don’t consider “Star Wars” to be an actual part of the titles of Empire and Jedi, that they’re just called “The Empire Strikes Back” and “Return of the Jedi” because they were marketed as such. Also, like in Leonard Maltin’s movie guide you’ll find Empire in the E section for Empire Strikes Back, not in the S’s with Star Wars as “Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back” because that’s not what it’s called. Same with Jedi, in its case in the R section of course.

The only time I’m okay with “A New Hope” being used is if you call it “Star Wars: A New Hope,” but even then Empire and Jedi can’t have “Star Wars” attached to their titles(or any of the other later movies for that matter) because that takes away from SW as being something special and degrades it to just another movie in the franchise.

And there’s nothing wrong with the first movie being the title of the series. Take Planet of the Apes for instance. The original 1968 movie is called Planet of the Apes, then each of the sequels is “Something” (from/of/for) the Planet of the Apes.

Any Beatles Fans Here?
Time

Pretty big Beatles fan here! Curious if people here are more fans of the earlier (Love me do, please please me, etc.) or later (Penny Lane, Let it Be) Beatles. I love both, but would say I prefer the later ones. My absolute favorite songs are from the later albums; especially Abbey Road and Magical Mystery Tour. White album has a few of my favorites too.

Favourite Pieces of Music in Star Wars
Time

I’ll limit it to three per movie, as I could get carried away(especially with the originals)

STAR WARS
-Cantina Band
-TIE Fighter Attack
-The Throne Room/Finale

THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK
-The Asteroid Field
-Yoda and the Force
-The City in the Clouds

RETURN OF THE JEDI
-Luke and Leia
-A Jedi’s Fury
-Ewok Celebration/Finale (Yub Nub)

THE PHANTOM MENACE
-Duel of the Fates
-Anakin’s Theme
-Augie’s Municipal Band

ATTACK OF THE CLONES
-Across the Stars
(I really don’t remember any other specific tracks, though it’s obviously good because John Williams)

REVENGE OF THE SITH
-Battle of the Heroes

THE FORCE AWAKENS
-Rey’s Theme
-March of the Resistance

THE LAST JEDI
-Canto Bight (Similar to cantina song from SW77? Sure, but fun nonetheless)

RISE OF SKYWALKER
-Was there any new original theme in this movie?

Gotta give an honorable mention to Bea Arthur’s song in the Holiday special. “Just one more round friend…”

I don't think Revenge Of The Sith is as good as everyone says it is.
Time

I used to say ROTS was my favorite prequel, but honestly with the more recent surge of adoration for it has turned me against it. TPM is now my pick for best prequel, because it’s the one that feels the most like a movie. Clones and Sith both suffer GREATLY from video game graphics. (Obviously there’s other flaws, but I don’t need to list them here)

I hate how people say because the new ones are so horrible, it makes the prequels good now. No… bad movies are still bad movies. If you genuinely like them(more power to you) then fine, I don’t agree but fine(who I am to tell you what to like), but the logic of bad sequels=good prequels just don’t make sense to me.

Who is the most annoying character in Each Trilogy? Excluding Jar Jar, Rose, and C-3PO.
Time

PT: Anakin (an annoying person made more annoying because he’s the main character who we’re supposed to empathize with)

OT: There really isn’t anyone, but I guess since I have to say someone I’ll say Mon Mothma. I don’t really have anything against her, just her monotone voice is the only justification I could find to say anything bad about anyone in the originals.

ST: General Hux: He’s a joke. I was gonna say Kylo Ren, but there are parts of his character I do like; Hux is pretty much irredeemable.

What if the prequels were made in the 80s?
Time

I’ve always been of the mind that one of the reasons I don’t like the prequels is just that they’re late 90s-early 2000s movies. I think they’re bad anyway, but the effects and style of moviemaking was mostly what’s commonplace in 99-05. In turn the originals are what was commonplace in the late 70s-80s(which I love just about any movie made then). There are a few exceptions to this (the first two Spider-Man and Harry Potter movies) but as a whole movies just aren’t as fun at that time. But there’s something about an 80s blockbuster that I feel if the Star Wars prequels had been made then, they’d have to have been good. (I’m of the mind that the fun sci-fi blockbuster died after Jurassic Park in '93…)

Each Character's Best Outfit
Time

LexX said:

I’d say all of them as they were in the medal ceremony (Luke looks even better without his jacket). Leia’s slave outfit is a tie for her though, and Bespin gown isn’t bad either.

I didn’t want to seem obvious by saying the slave outfit… but the medal ceremony dress is great too, maybe I’d say that over Bespin, so my list isn’t all Bespin…

Favorite 80s TV shows!
Time

I may not have grown up in the 80s but all my favorite movies, shows and music are from that time period (70s too); this thread is for 80s TV! If you lived in the 80s, what did you love watching then? What are you still watching today? If you’re in my boat, what do you wish you’d gotten to see first-run? Some of my favorites (though there’s MANY) are Knight Rider, A-Team, Buck Rogers, Facts of Life, Alf, Fame… list goes on but I’ll save stuff for others to say!

Funniest Movie Ever
Time

Mostly all things people have said, but I’ll share my list nonetheless:

-Airplane!
-Young Frankenstein
-Ghostbusters
-Planes, Trains and Automobiles
-Home Alone
-Ferris Bueller’s Day Off
-The Muppet Movie
-Road to… movies (especially Morocco)
-It Happened One Night

There’s more I’m sure but these were the first that came to mind when I tried to think of movies I know make me laugh out loud.

Did Lucas forget that Obi Wan served Bail Organa in the Clone Wars ?
Time

Perfectly fine that Stardust cited a CW episode, but that kind of just points out what a problem this was. The movies shouldn’t need a cartoon network show to show what was expected in the backstory of Star Wars. Everyone who’s been in comment sections have insisted Anakin is a more likable character in that series too, but I think he should have been likable in the movies… oh well, I digress. But my point was that the Clone War itself should have happened in the actual movies.

Anakin should have become Darth Vader before the last 10 minutes of Episode III
Time

CarboniteSolo said:

I think there should have been more than 3 movies, the phantom menace should have been it’s own story with no Episode number. Something like “In the beginning…”

Episode II now the new Episode I
Episode III now being the Episode II

At the end of the new Episode II, the duel happens,

I love love love this concept! Much more aligned with what I was thinking. Your summary of Episode III sounds like a much more interesting movie!

Think that would have been better! And instead of the clones fighting for the republic, they should have been the enemy imho. Like it was hinted at in the early EU (especially in the Thrawn trilogy).

Yes! Just one example of the great universe-building in those books. I really like what Mr. Plinkett says in the Clones video about them being cloned monsters that threaten the galaxy. Also, while we’re on the subject I think the Clone wars should have been going on before or at least begin at the start of Episode I. There’s a war going on at the start of SW (which I know that was the point), but it would be a more interesting way to start your space adventure series.

When and why did Lucas decide to make The Emperor a Force-user?
Time

LexX said:

I think the comparison isn’t completely fair between the films. In SW Tarkin and Vader seem to be friends who respect each other but Tarkin is the military boss who is in charge of the station. Also Vader doesn’t have much to do really on his own.

Yeah, you’re right, they are on equal ground, pretty much. I guess what I meant was like Tarkin is in charge of the Death Star project, so that’s his turf, and then in TESB
we’re on Vader’s ship, as you said.

In TESB we see Vader only in his own SSD that is in charge of the relatively small fleet. Even then, the admiral of the fleet is in charge of the fleet, but sure, they act on Vader’s orders which is to find Luke and the rebels. So he had is own quest to complete by any means necessary. I think after the small group of rebels destroyed the Death Star, the Emperor realized the danger and Vader got a bit of a promotion. Before that Vader had served his duty by killing the Jedi already.

Then the Emperor is in charge of Death Star II when he arrives.

Kind of related, I also had thought it was cool that the lightning was the Emperor’s own personal force power he had mastered himself…until Count Dooku did it that is.
