If you need to B*tch about something... this is the place

Welp, I just gotta banned from my university’s Game Dev Discord. They claim I was given multiple warnings but won’t actually post me them and never kept a visible tally for me so I have no clue what they’re talking about. Afaic this came out of nowhere.

Guys help me, I can’t take it anymore. I’m so sick of always getting banned from everywhere without trying. How do you avoid getting banned from Discord servers by accident?

I felt perfectly tired and ready to recoup some of my sleep (I felt severely under-rested today) or at least not be any more tired by going to bed just in time for a good 8 hours and of course the minute I get in bed I can’t sleep and now I’m wide awake. I think it’s because I got stressed over something momentarily when I initially laid in bed and that woke my brain up. It’s incredibly frustrating cuz I was tired and going to bed perfectly on schedule and now it’s all off. Guess I won’t be making my train tomorrow.

Speaking of which, let’s talk about that stupid train. I hate it so much. The schedule is such garbage that, were I following my train schedule instead of sleeping in, tomorrow I would be arriving at 9:15 and leaving at 3:10…only to attend a 45 minute weekly conference from 11:45 to 12:30. It’s hell. Well, actually it’s fine because I find value in the time spent downtown instead of cooped in my home, but the point is it should be a choice. The freight train companies who force the commuter line to follow such an erratic and frankly insane schedule should be taken out back in their freight yards and shot like the dogs they are.

As soon as the temperature drops below 5 degrees the train goes “let’s blow hot air at you continuously, that definitely won’t be thoroughly unpleasant”. They finally turned on the heating for the season so now I’m stuck with it all winter.

Whoever decided the tunnel leading to the the terminus should have speakers that alternate two songs on repeat endlessly should have a nap on the tracks. They aren’t even good songs. One’s a generic sports chant and the other’s a shitty early 10s style EDM remix of We Will Rock You. Actually, I think they play the normal version too so that’s three songs. Yippee.

And nothing puts fear into my heart quite like the ticket inspectors. They show up maybe once a month or so, usually the one day you fuck something and don’t have a valid pass on you. Happened to me a lot at first, but now I’ve got my act together so I can usually avoid it, but it’s still terrifying, as the fines increase every time and I haven’t heard of them dropping in recognition of years of presenting valid passes to compensate for initial mishaps.

God I hate this stupid fucking train. Thank god the REM’s coming.

Has anyone considered addressing Palpatine by name in the OT? It would spoil the twist of the PT for first time viewers, assuming they watch the movies in production order as they should, but it would help tie the films together more cohesively in a subtle way.

It’s not a twist for anyone who’s seen the OT.

It’s perfectly plausible that someone wouldn’t pick up on the fact that Darth Sidious / The Emperor from RotJ is the same person as Senator / Chancellor Palpatine, especially if they’re watching it as children which is the target demographic. I certainly never figured until the reveal when I was 5.

Her parents’ ship never made it off the planet? I guess this calls for the old “child Rey electrocuted the ship” trick.

Personally, I’ve been pushing in the other direction to make Pasaana into a unique world, first by making the sky green, and hopefully down the line giving it a tropical beach look like Scarif. I have a decent but unpolished mockup of a beach where the Falcon lands.

Jakku being Tatooine is a must in my book. It makes sense thematically (it rhymes with the other trilogies by serving the same purpose Tatooine does in them) and it looks virtually identical.

The dreadnought destroying the capital has been my plan since…even before the dreadnought was a thing. I was pleased when TLJ came out that it gave me the dreadnought on a silver platter to off the senate with. I will say I’d never even considered Poe’s attack on the dreadnought being recontextualized as revenge but that makes perfect sense.

Yesterday I came across WhillsConsortium’s radical 3-in-1 and noticed they merged D’Qar and Ajan Kloss, declaring them both to be Yavin IV. Then I remembered I had my own idea kicking around to merge Starkiller Base and Kijimi. That’s when it hit me: if we do both those things, we can have consistent bases of operation for both sides throughout the entire trilogy.

Removing the superweapon angle is my preferred approach to Starkiller Base so at that point blowing it up is easily excised. It can simply be attacked, seriously damaged, but nonetheless usable for the next two films. Blowing up Kijimi, which would either no longer make much sense or could be recontextualized as the Sith Eternal asserting dominance over the First Order. Either way, it’s absolute trivial to remove, so it doesn’t really matter.

One minor issue is that neither base would appear in TLJ as it stands, since there’s no snow, grass, or jungle planet nor any permanent planetary base besides the abandoned one on Crait. While we’re on TLJ, it’s worth mentioning the space battle at the start of the movie would need to be recontextualized as no longer being the evacuation of D’Qar. This is once again absolutely trivial, since the only indication of such is a few shots at the start that could easily be removed.

Anyway, I think this would work well with my approach of making the ST about balance in contrast to the dominant light in the PT and dominant darkness in the OT. Everyone is on equal footing with their own permanent base. No more underdogs.

Idk if this would be a plus or minus, but I think Hal or someone else suggested adding a 3PO line from the radio drama where he refers to Ewoks by name. That may not be necessary though.

Got you covered.

This is something that would take new footage with fan-made costumes to pull off but I would love it if when Vader tries to see the Emperor against his command Vader has a short fight with some royal guards guarding the throne room. Vader approaches, they try to use their electro staffs but Vader force chokes and shoves them away. That gives the guards and Vader a bit more to do.

There’s already a deleted scene from RotJ that’s more or less what you’re describing without the fight.

Also throwaway line is genuinely hilarious considering it’s what causes Luke to almost turn to the dark side and kill Vader.

Things Vader could’ve also provoked Luke with:

  • Insulting Obi-Wan

  • Saying Luke failed Obi-Wan

  • Threatening him with his friends dying

  • Anything else

“No, there is another.”

Fair enough, I didn’t account for that, but that doesn’t invalidate my argument. All this does is set up the idea that there is some other hope. RotJ pulls out of nowhere the fact that:

  • It’s Luke sister

  • Leia is that sister

Nowhere had any of this been alluded to.

Bail Organa and Obi-Wan know each other, Obi-Wan trusted Bail with Anakin’s daughter, Bail trusted his daughter to find Obi-Wan leading her to Luke.

That does nothing to explain how against all odds she just so happens to be captured by her biological father, and just so happens to be promptly rescued by her biological brother, who just so happens to be accompanied by her robot half-brother…okay, that last one’s TPM’s fault, but you get my point. It makes the Galaxy Far Far Away feel like the size of a city.

So you admit there’s nobody else it could be?

I disagree with the premise that there needed to be a sister in the first place. Anakin would’ve made perfect sense as the “other” Yoda refers to. But if we needed a sister, I would’ve rather they introduce a new character by establishing Luke has a sister and having him specifically seek her out. Heck, having the sister mentioned but never appear would retroactively be justified in making for a perfect Sequel Trilogy hook where he sets out to find her.

He didn’t seek her out at all. He asked Kylo to kill her.

Killing her still means tracking her down. The point is he sent someone after her because he full well they were related.

it makes me think that you like shipped Luke and Leia in the first two or something

I did not. I can’t bring myself to give a damn about any Star Wars romance beside Ben and Rey.

It doesn’t go nowhere, it’s used by Vader to taunt Luke.

Woohoo, a five second throwaway line that could’ve been replaced with a dozen other things.

My objections to Leia being a Skywalker are as follows:

  • It comes out of nowhere

  • It goes nowhere

  • It feels contrived that the secret sibling is someone Luke already knows

Having Luke’s sister just so happen to be the only other woman he’s spent the three films with is contrived to the point of ruining my immersion. At that point I’m ready for Han to introduce himself as Uncle Skywalker. Say what you will about Rey being a Palpatine (I won’t pretend that isn’t stupid as well) but her grandparent only comes in at the end specifically looking for his granddaughter; he didn’t just bump into her at a bar.

I literally can’t think of any benefit to leaving this familial link in besides Ben having Vader’s bloodline, which is a sacrifice I’m willing to make. Doesn’t take blood to be a fanboy.

that’s better for me personally. Leia being Luke’s sister is just too iconic and ingrained at this point. Luke and Leia’s conversation in ROTJ is so good and her being used as emotional leverage by Vader also makes it all worth it.

Spartacus01 said:

Wouldn’t it be simpler to just remove the kiss in ESB? This way, there isn’t incest and you don’t need to modify nothing but a single scene.

Removing the familial relationship is so much better because the having them pull a sister out of a hat yet having it be an established character only for it to go absolutely nowhere not only shrinks the universe but is just generally the single worst piece of writing in the entire Saga and I’m including Rise of Skywalker in that statement. It’s incredibly clumsy and embarrassing and I hate it.

When Palpatine absorbs the Dyad, Ben and Rey fall to the ground. This is the perfect opportunity to send Rey to King’s Cross Station. Heck, DotF did just that. This can be used to exposit absolutely anything, though preferably more cosmological elements. It can look like anything since it’s all in her head / the Force. Animation, rotoscoped live-action, shooting new footage with a 9 year old Rey, simple spheres of light, anything goes, really. Then she gets whatever message she needs to hear and wakes up on the ground and starts chanting for the Jedi to be with her.

You would also have to imply that Jango purposefully planted the dart, which leads the Jedi to Kamino.

A while ago I suggested inserting a closeup of Jango holding the dart after his meeting with Zam. It’s a little change, but it would emphasis the importance of the dart and hint at a greater plan.

On the one hand, that would explain why this one time he uses a solid projectile that could be traced instead of a blaster bolt. On the other, is it possible that this was a mistake on Jango’s part and the Jedi weren’t supposed to follow him? 'Cause it seems awfully convoluted that he’d outsource a failed assassination just to get the Jedi to find Kamino. It’s perfectly possible they were intended to find it, but not right away, but when they did, Dooku just rolled with it, since it just meant starting the Clone Wars a little earlier than scheduled.

How would you have explained where Palpatine learned to use The Force?

I’d keep it a mystery, but imply he’s been alive well over 500 years, if not substantially longer.

If I had to give Palpatine a backstory, as much as I liked his characterization in the Darth Plagueis novel, if it were up to me, I’d probably go with the “ancient being” angle. Have him be this eldritch, demonic entity where no one knows how long he’s existed.

Maybe he could be the one who ruled the galaxy 1000 years before the movies?

That’s an interesting angle too.

Looking for electives in university registration be like
“Pick a class, any class.”
Pick a class
“No, not that one!”
No to mention advisors seem to actively do everything in their power to hide from you. Apparently History of China doesn’t count towards my History of Asia requirement and is counted as an elective and I can’t reach anyone to clarify. Fuck the university bureaucracy.

The Incredibles 2 is one half of a pretty good movie and one half of a really awful one. Everything about the Parrs’ home life is on par (no pun intended) with the first film. The actual superhero business Helen gets involved in initially shows promise but rapidly spirals out of control.

The villain is terrible on every level, and upon seeing the deleted scenes, it becomes incredibly obvious their motivation (which is only ever brought up in a single monologue) is a leftover from an earlier draft where there was an angle of filming Elastigirl’s crimefighting to broadcast as entertainment. With that angle lost, Screenslaver’s rant about people only wanting superheroes as escapism feels completely out of left field and is forgotten just as soon as it’s established. Speaking of Screenslaver, that cool design that reminds me a lot of the Paul Dano Riddler is only used once in the film, as is the entire persona of a sort of soft-spoken ninja is immediately discarded. If we had that Screenslaver for the rest of the movie it would be much better. But no, we get a twist reveal that you can see coming the minute the culprit is introduced (not to mention there’s literally only two characters introduced who it realistically could be), which is completely worthless, and then the finale has the villain out of costume and just generally being boring.Oh and the fact that Elastigirl didn’t immediately figure out they had the wrong guy when the film so blatantly telegraphs it was painful to watch.

Unlike the first film, there were actually a couple deleted scenes I think shouldn’t have been cut, namely the restaurant holdup (I get that it doesn’t contribute to the plot, but it’s a fun scene, and the kids were otherwise underutilized so I loved seeing them shine) and Edna’s security breach (having her hacked by Screenslaver would’ve been a great way to tie Helen’s plotline to Bob’s).

Oh and Schaffrillas is right about the newly introduced superheroes: their designs are awful.

Overall, I’d say the only thing this movie is is incredibly disappointing. The first one is a masterclass in storytelling that should be taught in universities around the world. The second is something to keep the kids quiet for two hours.

Damn, I think that was more than a few sentences.
