So, yesterday there was this Star Wars marathon - Prequels Rankings...
Time

I actually find TPM the most watchable out the three. Even though it's completely different than pre-1999 Star Wars, it still comes across as more Star Warsy to me than the other two. I once thought ROTS was the best prequel, but after subsequent viewings, I realized that only the effects and music are better than AOTC. The rest is at least equal to AOTC.

**RUMOR** Original theatrical cut of the OT to be released on blu ray!!
Time

I saw AOTC twice in the theaters and I remember both times the picture wasn't very sharp looking, but my eyes got used to it. My friends with me said the same thing. I found AOTC to be ugly looking anyway. Interestingly, I really can't recall my viewing of ROTS, except I saw on the third day, the theater was packed and I sat toward the front. I only saw it once.

Episode VII: The Force Awakens - Discussion * SPOILER THREAD *
Time

http://makingstarwars.net/2014/11/john-williams-recorded-star-wars-force-awakens-teaser-music-today/

Today, we received several reports about John Williams recording Star Wars cues at a Sony scoring stage. The Maestro is apparently recording the music for the new Star Wars: The Force Awakens teaser. As we’ve mentioned before, we heard the rough edit of the teaser was just a little over a minute long, showing off new characters from the film and culminating with the return of the Falcon to the big screen! We also heard that this rough edit was cut to existing Star Wars cues. The music recorded today was described by one source as a medley. Most likely what is being heard features new tiny transitions to make all the various cues line up to hit the beats the editors of the teaser envisioned.

So is it new or old Star Wars music that was recorded today? Most likely you will not be hearing a new leitmotif, you’ll have to wait until The Force Awakens is near release to hear that. Also the full score may not be recorded with the London Symphony Orchestra according to those in the know. John Williams has not left the country in ten years and he feels he’s getting too old to travel abroad. Disney has apparently signed an agreement with the AFM (American Federation of Musicians) to keep movie and television score recording based in the United States. It is much cheaper to go abroad (hence why Kevin Kiner went to Prague to record The Clone Wars final scores with a live orchestra. Anyways, the probability that John Williams will record in Southern California is much more likely.

Time and technology marches on. One one of the ROTS commentaries, there is mention of some doubt at ILM that they could plug in the Episode One model of Boss Nass into the software they were using at the time. That's only about a six year span.

Data files can get lost or even wiped. Just ask Pixar. ;)

Doesn't seem like there would be a lot of point to save the effect files, except just to have them. Since AOTC and ROTS have a good amount of effects shots, I'm guessing a lot of hard drive would be required to hold all the files. It's been said Lucas has copies of everything, so I wouldn't be surprised if the effects files were housed somewhere.

How was the GOUT advertised back in 2006? Was it advertised as being the theatrical version of the films or the 2004 films with the theatrical versions taking the back seat? I don't recall seeing any advertising for it. I only discovered its release by going online and reading about it. If I had only saw them in the store at glance, I would have assumed they were the SE being sold individually and, in a way, that was the case.

I don't think Disney/Lucasfilm would change Lucas' latest vision without his consent. I think they have too much respect for him and people may say it's in bad taste or disrespectful and I'm sure Disney doesn't want that kind of publicity. They've actually made changes to some of their films to avoid criticism... although, they then received some in exchange for the changes.

I don't think Disney paid $4 billion to not release the very movies that made Star Wars such a valueble intellectual property. It's not a matter of if the OOT will be released; it's a matter of when.

I do agree it's a matter of when. I was talking about Disney changing the films even further and removing some of Lucas' changes. I doubt Disney will create their own SE and disregards Lucas' latest edit. They're still going to release the SE, of course. The 2011 Blu-ray set sold more than enough without the addition of the theatrical edits.

Abrams and crew seem to be going in the opposite direction Lucas may have taken based on the PT... more focus on story, character development, practical effects, etc.

Really? We've got a title, a YouTube video of The Millennium Falcon, a couple of leaked photos and sweet bugger all else and from that you have inferred that this film is going to be like Ibsen in space. That's some imagination you've got.

We've gotten more than a couple of leaked photos and also dozens of concept art have been leaked, which may or may not be real or utilized in the film. My comments were mainly based off of the cast and crew involved with the film, Kathleen Kennedy's comments since 2012 regarding the film, actors interviews, Abrams set videos and now the announcement of the removal of the episode number from advertising. I think my statement about them seemingly going in the opposite direction of PT is valid. I never said the film was going to be good, though. Too soon to make that assumption.

Plinkett begs to differ, plus there's the bold in this article:

I'm making that assumption because the PT and SE are more "fresh" than the UOT and everything that went with that, which pretty pretty much ended in the late 90s. I'm not sure if Disney eliminating "Episode VII" from advertising has anything to do with the fan base necessarily, but it seems they want to capture the spirit of the OT before the SE and PT came along.

I have a feeling people will still refer to the films by its respective episode number rather than it's title. The PT and OT have been promoted that way for 15 years so it has been ingrained in everyone's head.

but for 19 years before that, the OT was promoted as "Star Wars", "Empire", and "Jedi". If GL was able to change what people call them, Disney can just as easily change it back.

That's true, but it will take time if this is what Disney really wants to do. I'm guessing the majority of fans that exist now going into the ST are from the SE/PT/revisionist era who have gotten used to calling the films by the numbers. Won't be easy to change that.
