Waterworld ABC Cut? A ton of info - see McFly's posts for details (Released)

'Tis cool. I understand the crazy work hours thing. 12 hour days (or nights, for that matter) suck.

Good idea to up a sample to rapidshare. If you do that, be careful to make sure that however you encode it, it looks as much like the source as possible.

I looked it up...domestic + foreign box office was 264 million dollars, about 50-55 percent of which goes back to the film companies that made it...so about 130 million. The film cost 175 million, so it did actually lose quite a bit of money.

Lorang, if I clued you in on how to set up a torrent, would you be willing to give it a try? It's honestly not that difficult. Do you do the torrent thing at all, as far as downloading stuff? It takes about 3 or 4 minutes to set up.

And RB, if it turns out that Lorang's version has a censored soundtrack, would you still be willing to upload it? Plus it still has value, as it doesn't have a watermark on it. I will say though, looking at that shot of the Everest marker, Lorang's does look pretty nice.

I want it alll....

No, no no no nonononono. The last time someone did a "wait and see because so-and-so has something better", we went six months with nothing happening. You've got a copy that can be uploaded now...you're willing to upload it soon...what's the worst that could happen? You upload it, and a couple months from now, somebody comes up with a slightly better VHS-rip? Oh, the horror... 9.9

Up this bad boy, and we'll deal with the consequences later.

1) Has no cursing/violence edits
2) Is a high quality digital sattelite capture

...and thus doesn't need to be cut together with the commercial DVD? If that's so, deal me in. I'll seed like crazy.

I don't know anything about the Sci-Fi version, but the Encore version that RB has includes all the cursing and whatnot.

As far as quality, I seem to recall there being a couple of caps posted a long time ago, and I believe it's a VHS transfer, so the quality isn't fantastic...but you take what you can get. RB, if I'm wrong about the quality, please correct me.

Edit: I found the screenshot. It's on the first or second page. Here's the image:
http://img357.imageshack.us/img357/8559/collage3dh.jpg

As you can see, the quality isn't to write home about, but keep in mind, as far I know, the last time this aired on TV was a few years back, when DVD-recorders were a little more uncommon than they are now, and movies were shown a lot more in full screen. Actually, just did a little reading, and the director's cut aired on ABC in 1998, and I'm kinda assuming it's been about as long since Encore showed it, so....damn near 10 years ago.

BTW, from what I understand, this is about 2 hrs and 56 minutes, 40 minutes longer than the original, so quite a treat.

Oh yeah, and btw, earlier in the thread, somebody mentioned a version of Home and Away that was about 40 minutes longer than the original. Does anybody have that bad boy floating around? Not a bad movie, so I'd like to see the longer version.

It is important to me that I don't put out a DVD project that is not 100% ready.

That's cool...but please excuse my chronic fidgeting...

'Raiders of the Lost Ark: The Adaptation' (Released)

Downloaded a copy of this several months ago, watched a few minutes, and promptly deleted it.

Hmm, here's the torrent page for it. 784 megabyte xvid file. Have fun.

(Please note, I know we're not supposed to link to torrents, but this isn't a commercial release of any sort. Just something...weird.)

For the shot of him yelling, would it be possible to use a shot showing him from behind, standing on the street, or some other shot that you've cut, yet doesn't show his face, so you can sync the audio to it?

And I'll have to check out Premiere...been meaning to, but it seems like it has a steep learning curve. Lately I've been trying to get into Sony Vegas...maybe I'll have to do a little contrast and compare when I get a chance.

I looked at the scene again (after I managed to get a little sleep), and there is some tilt to the bus, so it actually looks fine.

Never try and critique stuff when you're tired...yikes.

But Reeves definitely cracks up in the one shot.

If I had just seen the Donner footage I would have said there was nothing wrong with it. And then the SoJ version has a real economy to it and makes it a much better action beat. Kudos.

I disagree with a lot of what Tweaker said. I don't see a problem with the pace or the lifting.
I do agree that Reeves has a stupid grin on his face. It looks like you could fix that by cutting away from him sooner (keep the audio but put it over other footage).

My first suggestion was just an off the top of my head thing, but I think #3 is of real importance, and #2, the lifting of the bus, is fairly necessary, as it's such an obvious editing issue. Ursa lifts the bus, with the bus coming off the ground parallel to the ground, then several seconds later, Non picks up his end, which should already be in the air, according to how it looks from Ursa's end. It just looks...icky.

But that's small potatoes to Reeve's grin. I love the scene as a whole, but there's just some weird crap going on there.

You did a pretty good job.

I do have three suggestions:

1) I think you could stand to hold to a second or two more of the action inside the bus as it's rolling--it looks pretty real, which offsets the kind of unrealistic effect of it being initially thrown.

2) When Ursa and Non are lifting up the bus, you see Ursa lifting first, and the bus looks pretty horizontal, then a look elsewhere, then a look at Non, who only then begins to lift up his end of the bus. Could you reedit that a bit so that it looks like they're lifting simultaneously?

3) When Superman says "No, don't do it! etc..." After he says "No!", he gets this sort of weird half-smirk on his face, as if Reeve feels that the line is kinda corny and can't keep from laughing...is there any way to cut around that?

This isn't in any way a critique of your work--you do a really could job. It's just a tricky scene, that due to the nature of sfx at the time as well as some kinda crappy acting on Reeve's part in that one scene, has some really distracting clunky bits. So...whatever magic you can work would help.

BTW, what software are you using to your editing and special effects?

Looked at that image in photoshop, the height of that section of stripes is only 18 pixels, 5.5 percent of the height of that image. Nothing short of an HD source is going to show that kind of detail.

i was thinking about it being a possible scene to add to JP3, since that movie is a bit sillier than the others to begin with. it could be a cool precredits scene, possibly replacing that stupid parasailing scene. that also gets dr. malcolm in the third film, which is cool.

Ehhhhh...

It's just that, without the San Diego scene, JP2 has no real climax. It would be very meh.
