Could this be indicative of the new dogfighting cinematography?

If so, I’m psyched.

I agree. Really nice to see they abandoned all that idiotic spinning of the prequels. “This is Red Leader. Assume attack formation and go into your series of triple Salchows”

But I was to believe that spinning was a good trick?

Maybe he should keep quiet about specifically what’s imperfect until slightly after release to test if we can honestly notice?

YouTube comment of his says there are a couple gout instances remaining, though.

Work prints for previous releases were not numbered. I guess it depends how finished it is. Might have no need to linger on spleen as 1.7 once 2.0 is out.

there was a reason Fox only wanted the middle part of his saga, even then they realised the rest of it was weak.

Except there was no “middle part” of any saga back then. That’s just Lucasian revisionism.

That’s the most important part of this trolling. It was A film, not some sort of “I had it all planned in the 70s, family saga, 12 films, 9 films, 12 films, 6 films, 9 films, 3 films, father-brother-sister” BS.

If he had it all planned out in the 70s, he wouldn’t have hired Alan Dean Foster to write a second story.

The early drafts of Star Wars films (and the pre-ESB sequel plans) make it unambiguously clear that the idea that he had it all planned as a long saga is false. They made it up as they went, and had a lot of success doing it this way. For a while. It’s silly that some Lucas fans call JJ+Kasden’s work glorified fan fiction. It was always that.

Good evening,

Just read an article and Rey is the new Millennium Falcon pilot. Discuss.

I think we have known that she flies it since the behind-the-scenes vid in June or July. There’s probably some discussion from then. Some people surely made the excellent point that they thought it was neat, while others undoubtedly raised the important counterpoint that it in fact sucks.

Ah, I see now that you say you didn’t plan on doing a public workprint because you didn’t have material to fix the eyebrows, yet. Makes sense, as they were the most criticized part of 1.0. But they look great, now!

Is there any change to the plan of only doing 720p? Even if the last few GOUT sources are replaced? I know this has been brought up multiple times. But, clearly things change, such as the ability to see a new version(ish) before TFA changed. 😃

Oh, I just realized the date listed on the signup genius site. Does this mean the workprint will be released on the 16th or is it a placeholder date? Thanks!

Harmy on youtube said:

On the sign up page it says the date is 12/16 but that’s just a placeholder - it should be done early next week. 😃

Fantastic. The hard part will be holding back from scanning through it in VLC to see all the cool shots I want to see, and actually watching it as a film after I finish ESB.

I’m sure somewhere on the Internet, someone must have mentioned that an episode number that wasn’t there before was added in 1981, leading to this thread. The episode number in question was Episode IV, with the new title A New Hope, added the the film previously known only as Star Wars. Empire was always Episode V from day one.

Yeah, this is not the first time someone made this suggestion. It makes sense that younger generations might think that it was changed when the prequels came out. In reality, having them titled this way since 80/81 is part of what really amped up the hype and expectations for the prequels. Creating a place for them in the saga a decade and a half earlier gave them this official “planned” status that led to greater disappointment for many people, but unquestioning acceptance from others.

It is PG-13. This was announced a day or so after JJ said they had nothing left to do but color tweaking.

It was rated a week or two ago, but there were TV spots that came out after the rating still said not yet rated, presumably due to when they were produced.

I don’t know anything about UK ratings systems. But here, anyone can see a PG-13 film with a guardian present. It’s just that a bunch of 11 year olds can’t walk in by themselves, in theory (they probably can in reality). PG-13 did not exist during the OT years. It was made to find a middle ground when Temple of Doom came out, if I recall. The rating is fine by me, and certainly doesn’t indicate what I would consider “gore”.

By gore i was referring to the terrible ROS which was a 12 rating, presumably because it was so SHIT! I was hoping to take both my children…

Well, we will surely have members here on the 16th or 17th who can try to give insight as to whether or not it will be appropriate. My guess is that they’re going to shoot for as wide a market as possible, of course.

I’m sure you’re right. But there’s an extra thrill involved in having lots of the sets and shots brand new. I don’t imagine I’ll ever be someone who leaves the room when a trailer comes on, but I can probably avoid seeking them out, as well as all the info being dropped in interviews, etc.

But a lot of giving in this time had to do with the fear of it sucking or, alternatively, the possibility of a return to greatness (or non-suckiness). If TFA is good enough to give me faith in the franchise, I might not be as willing to check out spoilers. Plus, there will actually be an ongoing story to be invested in, rather than simply the curiosity of what the hell we’re going to be dropped into.

So for those of you who still haven’t seen anything from the film, keep it up! It will be so goddamn worth it.

I think I am going to give it a real shot for VIII. I’ve not wanted to know plot details for TFA, but have been far too curious about what the aesthetics are like to hold back. I’ve mostly only been exposed to information that has been officially released (though, in many cases, far earlier than it came through the official channels), but I’m still feeling like I know a bit more than I would like.

With all due respect to the person who made and uploaded that DVD5, I would recommend that if someone really wants a DVD copy, they encode their own. There are some serious quality problems with that one (but SW and ESB DVD5s look great!).

I’m fairly sure that the DVD-5 of RotJ that is floating around is one that somebody ran through DVD Shrink, because my conversion used the same method as SW and ESB. It didn’t have a menu. I don’t think it even had hairy_hen’s 5.1 on it. As Darth Mallwalker will you tell you, I’m terrible at keeping copies of my DVD conversions, so I can’t check the disc, but my conversion wouldn’t have looked terrible.

Harmy had better hurry up with the next version so I can make a better conversion available. 😃

That makes sense! I had seen the low quality menu version attributed to you before, I think. Perhaps because it’s the only one on spleen.

Go away, George.

Well, he did announce in that interview that he’s finally divorcing us! What a loveless marriage it has been for so long.

I don’t know your age, but Lucas has been burping that same tired bullshit for 30 years. He can’t let go and he can’t take the high road. He’s mentally ill.

Eh, I think he’s being slightly better about it. This was his most candid moment since the sale, so far, and he’s playing the reluctant optimist (or at least he’s pretending to be curious). We’ll see what happens once the movie is out and he has seen it. I really can’t tell if it will be hate, joy (or feigned joy), or silence.

What’s delightfully absent from this interview is the “it’s mine mine mine” disrespect towards fans, an element that has indeed been present for decades.
