I know a couple people who have been able to big blockbuster premieres. One owned a small west coast theater chain, another was related (through marriage) to one of the X-men First Class stars, and got a ticket despite having only met her twice or so. Surely harder to get into the TFA premiere, but still will be some random folks.
Anyway, Starwars.com is live broadcasting the lead up to the premiere and the red carpet nonsense involved. So as soon as that ends would be the ideal time to cut the cord.

Although that’s mostly just the filmmakers, actors, guests (e.g. Lucas), etc, though isn’t it? Porbably not a larger risk of spoilers, but I’ll keep it in mind.
I think there are plenty of guests who know those involved or work elsewhere in hollywood. It only takes one person and one internet to spoil every single detail in the film.

Harmy has said that regular recomposites will probably be left alone for 2.0. I really support this idea, so long as new elements aren’t added or anything removed. Since his approach, this time, is to use full 35mm shots and do less rotoscoping (again, an idea I like), I think it is much better to have the ships a few pixels off and looking fantastic than technically correct with a noticeable quality and grain shift with changes in contrast and gate weave. Those things aren’t really a big deal when it means restoring a scene with actual SE changes, though.
Obiwan’s branch head is admittedly a trickier decision. I’m certainly fine with most of the Obiwan shots as they are in the SE (perhaps with a slight color shift), but they did mess that one shot up.

I ended up finding the email in my ‘promotional’ tab in gmail. So it’s probably either there or spam.
I’ve found that even ‘warp stabilizer’ in adobe can have a pretty good effect for gate weave as long as you cut between shots.
Even if having the theatrical versions as THE versions again finally means some inconsistencies with the Prequel Trilogy. That’s fine.
What inconsistencies are there, really though? The 2004-11 SEs certainly made some harder links to the PT, but generally weren’t ‘fixing’ things.
There’s the Emperor’s look. But his face doesn’t really look anything like his RoTJ face, even in the SE. And the dialogue kind of breaks the logic of the film’s premise. So, I think that cancels out. There’s Boba’s voice. But developing a different accent is possible. Even two of the three clones shown in Rebels had unique voices, I think.

It’s fairly well known that Brian De Palma wrote and re-shaped what George had originally written for the SW77.
That’s an interesting question and in all honesty, I have no idea who actually wrote the OT crawls.
If I recall, George’s original crawl appeared in either the novelization or the comic adaptation. So, I know that the film wasn’t exactly what George wrote, but I also have no idea who re-wrote it.
I loathe Plagueis for his name alone. I don’t want to see stupid names like that appear in the ST, not even in passing.

Why has the line “Close the blast doors!” been cut from the scene where the storm troopers are chasing Han and Chewie? I believe the line was in the theatrical version and was only cut from the original VHS release.
Plus, it’s one of my favorite lines in the movie. 😛
The sound mixes are accurate.
If you select the mono mix, the line will be present. It was absent in the theatrical stereo release.

For those not enjoying captchas, etc. I found that Mega worked surprisingly well (and tons faster than uloz, compared to the free tier), and didn’t deal in captchas. The only issue I had was that after about 3GB downloaded, I’d get an error that chrome ran out of HTML5 storage space. Under Linux (and I’m sure this would work for most OSes), I just had to in Chrome go to chrome://settings/cookies search for Mega and then kill what I found there, then I was good for up to another 3GB. This being due to Mega through “browser downloads” storing stuff in a cache before writing to the destination, and not clearing out completed downloads. Apparently their app doesn’t have the problem, if one is so inclined, though this really is the only time I’ve used their site (impressed, overall, actually), and I’m not about to install extra stuff for just one download. Anyway, hope that helps someone.
Yes. Their app is fine and so is jdownloader. Browser is usually okay for things of this size, but I’ve had bad luck over 10gb.

For those of you complaining about the mkv being too small compared to your final ESB and SW files: It is a workprint. He made it clear that they were being encoded the same as the previous DVD9 sized releases (actually, I think he mentioned 4gb at one point, so I’m pleasantly surprised).
ott: he posted a screenshot of the time stamp a page or so back. Certainly not distracting. I’ve had easier times finding Waldo.

We’ve seen previews of Lapti Nek, the Sarlacc, and the eyebrows now. They all look much better that the 1.0 GOUT elements.
The ESB 2.0 workprint had some glitches here and there but nothing that broke it, IIRC.
I’ll certainly be giving WP 2.0 a shot for my watch-through. I just won’t be burning it and putting it on a shelf.
Did you decide on whether you will include a time stamp?
On the one hand, for my pre-TFA viewing, I would of course like it to look clean. But the time stamp is helpful for subsequent feedback to you. I guess we can always just grab the exact time info from VLC.
Another question: What do you guys think would be the best format? I’m encoding using the same settings I used for the SW and ESB AVCHDs but what should I mux to to maximize compatibility?
I was thinking about muxing to mkv but including tsmuxer.exe with a batch file to create a BD ISO for those who want to burn it to BD. Would that be possible? Also, how about a batch file for swapping audio? Can that be done?
Really, I think the main people you should consider are the ones who are not on these forums (youtubers, etc). I think many of us use tsmuxer and advise others to do so, so batch conversions might not be needed. Most people will want something they can click and play (mkv, mp4, etc) and people seem to be confused by BDMV folders, etc. The few who want to burn discs can figure out tsmuxer. But it might not be a bad idea to include the gui app and a quick .txt about it.

Evidently some of the staff involved in the Time cover story were shown the first 20 minutes of the film. I don’t have the whole article, but Star Wars News Net posted a few excerpts and it confirms a few things that we pretty much already knew (Finn and Poe stealing the TIE, Rey hanging out with BB-8, etc.) No word on the lightsaber in space thing, which is really the only thing I’m still dying to know about for sure before I see it for myself next week.
Also, Vulture asked George what he thought of the film face to face (Kathleen Kennedy said he “really liked it”, but I didn’t put a ton of stock in that). His response was so passive aggressive I can really only grin and shake my head.
“I think the fans are going to love it,” he said. “It’s very much the kind of movie they’ve been looking for.”

Talking about download sources and problems in that great of detail in the open is not a good idea. Posting a direct mega link, working or not, is strictly against the rules. You can ask the same question (i.e., is part x missing or corrupt) without violating the rules.
I don’t know anything about the specific download you’re talking about, but that site is used for distribution by editors and not random folks.
I don’t know if Team Negative 1 has a print of the special edition theatrical already, but there is a full 7-reel print of Return of the Jedi SE (1997) on a well-known auction site, ending in less than 2 days.
I assume you mean this one - it looks nice. If anyone has the $$$, I’d be happy to get it scanned, send you the scan and then you could resell the reels on eBay - it would be like renting it! You might even get a few hundred more than you paid for it… I’d do it myself but I don’t have the cash for the initial buy 😦

Anyway, if anyone wants to protest Disney making a Star Wars film, the best and most morally sound way to do it is just not see the film. If, more likely, you have no idea what you think, you can chance it and choose whether or not you’ll pay to see it. Just like any other movie.

@PartyVader: If you want to read about another amazing project, check out Mike Verta’s thread about Star Wars Legacy. It’s usually a bit more impressive to read from the latest and go backwards from there, partially because there’s some cringeworthy behavior from a lot of members in the early posts. But also because his work in progress videos that were posted later are amazing.
If Harmy does have another go at Star Wars, the only thing that always bothered me (I think I made a post about it in the Star Wars thread a while back) is the digital error on the lizard thing in the background when they’re first going into the Cantina, where his head moves but the nostril doesn’t move with it. It’s a stupidly minor detail but once I noticed it I can no longer not notice it. Also I’m a little confused by your wording, are the despecialized editions planned to get an upgrade to 1080?
I still am not sure anyone besides you sees the nostril thing.
I don’t believe there are specific plans for a 1080p release, but that doesn’t mean it won’t happen.
But I too am more interested in a recolored SW than a resolution boost. Even the color of 1.0 with all the bells and whistles of 2.5 would be great. Nostrils or not. (Though I think the whole damn Eisley entrance scene can/should just be 35mm sourced some day. Most destroyed few minutes of the SE aside from Jedi rocks.)
