Star Wars Battlefront
Time

I’m enjoying the game. It seems that hardcore online FPS players are disappointed in the lack of content compared to other modern day shooters. I get that they want to stand up to publishers, especially EA, releasing modern games with minimal content and the rest behind a pay wall. But, as an outsider who has stuck with offline games pretty much exclusively (since maybe Unreal Tournament and Quake III), I guess I don’t know what I’m missing and can just enjoy the game.

THE WASHINGTON POST – George Lucas: To feel the true force of ‘Star Wars,’ he had to learn to let it go

Piggybacking off his own analogy, the changes are like bolting a spoiler onto an already beautiful car where there was no spoiler option. What’s the point? If you are just shining it up and making it look as good as you can – great. But that’s not what this was.

You should have posted a spoiler warning.

Star Wars Custom Blu Ray Saga Set (a WIP)

Well if you’re taking cues from blade runner, it wouldn’t be that odd to label them with years.

For those that havent seen the set, the discs were labeled similarly to this:

1982 Theatrical Version
1982 International Version
1991 Workprint Edition
1992 Director’s Cut
2007 Final Cut

How about this:

1977 Theatrical Edition
1981 Theatrical Re-release
1997 Special Edition
2004 DVD Version
2011 Blu-ray Version

If you don’t like DVD and Blu-ray, you could say something like “Home Video” or you could mention Lowry in the name like “2004 Lowry Transfer/Lowry Remaster”.

I like all of these ideas more than Redux/Final/Saga.

team negative1 - star wars 1977 - 35mm theatrical version (Released)

Yeah it looked great for what it is, even like that that would probably be my go to version right now. You can see the blowed out whites in the subs especially but nevertheless, you guys have done great job.

The sub’s also have some red bleeding through. But apparently the greedo scene is from an alternate source reel.

Info: Back to the Future - without DNR & EE
Time

There are some shots that are worse as far as wax goes (especially in part II). But I agree that it doesn’t make the film unwatchable.

On the one hand, I like that many of us have high standards for how film releases should be done. And I hope, as better transfers are done for 4K releases (or at least 4K remasters), that film restorations improve. However, I think as a group we constantly convince ourselves that so many things are unwatchably terrible unless fixed by our own hands. Everything looks like shit when you’re analyzing it for DVNR, Orange/Teal, exact cropping, etc, instead of actually watching it as a film.

Maybe:

Special Edition (Theatrical)
Special Edition (DVD)
Special Edition (Blu-ray)

Thoughts?

I think that’s better, if the years were still included. Not sure what Fox or Disney would call them, if they were to actually release them, but Special Edition Redux is probably not the answer. I don’t think anyone would kid themselves about a Final Version. Certainly no one here, but probably not even Disney would. 😃

Also, it will match the PT discs if the same is going to be done for them (the Theatrical, DVD, and Blu part with years). There would be no point of giving them more extensive titles for their limited changes.

Episode VII: The Force Awakens - Discussion * SPOILER THREAD *
Time

I didn’t know there was a rumored flashback scene. I know a lot of people were needlessly freaking out about the idea of one (waah, it’s not Star Wars with flashbacks!) because Carrie’s daughter was cast, and people assumed she would play young Leia. Since we’ve seen her in a shot with Leia, it’s obviously not the case.

How will you be watching the saga in preparation for Force Awakens?
Time

My answer to this question has changed a bit. Doing Schorman’s prequels. Watching the ‘Clone Wars’ cartoon in between II and III (and finishing ‘The Clone Wars’, as I hadn’t seen the final four episodes of S5, or any of S6). Currently finishing up S6.

For ANH, I made a Frankenstein’s monster encode of the best of Team Negative’s previews. This covers the first half of the film almost entirely. The rest of it is just DJ’s V3. For ESB, I’m doing TN1’s grindhouse with the improved previews of Reels 1 and 5. DJ’s V3 for RoTJ.

Edited: Team Blu != Dark_jedi v3.

Have you considered that perhaps you do not know as much as you think you do about the topic, and should have messaged a mod or admin about this instead of publicly posting a PM?

No, I have not and I’m sorry. Rest assured, it won’t happen again.

Thanks for that. Can you please remove the quote from your post?

Harmy's RETURN OF THE JEDI Despecialized Edition HD - V3.1
Time

I don’t think there is one for Jedi because it’s already able to fit on a DVD.

Not on a DVD-5. There is a separate MPEG2 based DVD5 upload.

With all due respect to the person who made and uploaded that DVD5, I would recommend that if someone really wants a DVD copy, they encode their own. There are some serious quality problems with that one (but SW and ESB DVD5s look great!).
