Right. You can burn RoTJ to a dual layer dvd, and it will play as avchd in a blu-ray player. But I find those discs to be extremely unreliable compared to BD-R.

Tsmuxer will make your blu-ray iso without re-encoding anything. No quality loss.

Start playing the edit in your DVD or BR player. Once the certain scenes begin, eject the disc and put in the original. When the sequence is over, put the edit back in.

I mean, it wouldn’t actually be that ridiculous if he was playing via VLC or something. Keep two windows open, cue everything properly before starting, pause and change tabs. I’m sure the yoda fight scene is on youtube or something (I would probably double check any midichlorian scenes on youtube. they’re probably dubbed over for the sake of ridicule).

This really is the only choice for someone who has made it very clear to us a dozen times that he will never edit anything, despite being the #1 requester of things that only he would ever want to watch. I think he actually probably has a good amount of people on his side for the Yoda fight, and I think some edits include that. But he will never, ever find midichlorians in a decent edit. They’re surely one of the driving forces for the creation of this hobby itself. You will generally only find die-hard George apologists that are in favor of the parasites.

Is there anyone kind enough to private message me regarding the subject of burning the despecialized edition without any quality loss?

I’ll just post it here since it’s within the rules and other people always want to know. Just use tsmuxerGUI to convert the MKV to blu-ray.

I’ve been listening to the soundtrack all day and it’s somehow made me feel less spoiled. Not only do a handful of music cues seem to contradict things I thought I knew, it also reminded me that the plot is really only a part of a much larger picture. The music is this whole other rich dimension that I haven’t been giving much thought to at all. I’m now feeling confident that there will be plenty to surprise and delight me, even if I do already know many of the story beats.

Did the ‘leaked’ track titles end up being real? I quickly started to scan them and then stopped myself. Without naming them, were they spoilery?

I didn’t mean to insult your intelligence, just pointing out that sometimes people misread those particular scores.

Either way, a high score like that is a great indicator that the thing isn’t a flop.

Edit: Also, I think someone posted the OT tomato scores based only on critical reviews upon original release. They were surprisingly low, even ESB.

You can download them and make your own discs.

Was the guy on youtube Harmy? People sometimes send him box sets that they build themselves as a way of thanking him for his hard work.

If the person bought them, they did so against the wishes of Harmy, everyone on this website, and surely Disney.

Btw TFA now has a score of 94% on rotten tomatoes. The same score as ANH.

It seems that RT scores are frequently biased high in the early hours. In fact, it was 97% two hours ago.

But the % on RT should be considered for only what it is. A percentage of people who said it was good and not rotten. It doesn’t take raw scores into account. So, for instance, a film that is mediocre but enjoyable will have a far better score than something that stratifies audiences into people who adore or loathe it. Something with 2.5 stars across the board will have a better score than a film with nearly all 4 star reviews, with a couple people who disliked it.

How spoilery does the review get? I started reading it, but after seeing how long it goes on (i.e., a real article instead of a blurb), I imagine there must be enough substance to refer to specifics…

Do you think the GOUT ROTJ would rest well alongside Harmy’s ANH and ESB? I’m doing standard DL DVDs to accommodate all the “special features” I’m including

There’s some bad DVD downscales out there though, so be sure to get a good one or roll your own.

Yes, I mistakenly gifted someone the DVD5 of RoTJ DeSp that has the menu. The friend I gave the disc to is no videophile, and I think he may even only have a CRT TV. But even he noticed how bad it looked.

Maybe slightly off-topic but I’m making Harmy DVDs for my dad for Christmas. For ROTJ, would you guys recommend v1.0 or is the workprint complete enough for now? I know the video quality is supposed to be much better in the WP.

I appreciate any opinions!

IMO – and it pains me to say it – 1.0 is better for general-purpose enjoyment than the 2.0WP. The missing subtitles can be fixed, but the crazy wrong R2 freakout just wrecks it, worse than blurry eyebrows. For my own purposes – like a lot of people here, it seems – I’ve made a mashup of the workprint with 1.0 spliced in at a few key points. I’m confident the second workprint or final release of 2.0, whatever’s next, will be clearly better than 1.0 in every respect. The first workprint very nearly is.

I would say deathalo’s patch up plus subs would work great. But it still has text during the fox logo, so still not ideal for a permanent copy.

Star Wars Episode I: Cloak Of Deception (Released)

Don’t get me wrong, I hate JarJar’s voice and essentially every line of his.

But Hal’s edit works much better than some of the more over the top ones, simply because the execution of these grand ideas (like redubbing JarJar, or removing him entirely) is never good enough to work seamlessly. The results of those ambitious edits are interesting, as sorts of animatics or demo reels to give an idea of what might have been. But I don’t ever feel like I’m watching a real film with them. Hal9000’s edits are more modest, as if someone with a brain walked into the editing room during the later stages of piecing the film together. But they work! And, by and large, the result is extremely professional looking and sounding.

The point is that spoilers are relative. There was also nothing directly stated in the post itself. The mods have previously stated that links are fine, if properly labeled. But it’s irrelevant in this case, as there are no spoilers.

But again, it’s relative. Hal9000 just left this thread because someone posted a 100% spoiler free review which essentially said: the movie was fun, I think you’ll enjoy it but I can’t tell you anything specific yet.

As Frink said, he was just being polite.

did you read the title of this thread?

Meh, there are different degrees of spoilers and degrees of spoiler avoidance. Some people in this thread probably don’t even want to know the damn characters names.

The red carpet thing was an official starwars.com event, and they specifically did it spoiler free (from a reasonable person’s point of view).

edit: never mind, this was essentially stated exactly one line under the text you decided to quote:

*** ALL THE FOLLOWING VIDEO MATERIAL WAS TAKEN FROM THE STAR WARS OFFICIAL YOU TUBE CHANNEL, THESE MAY NOT BE CONSIDERED AS SPOILERS SINCE IT WAS PUBLISHED OVER A OFFICIAL CHANNEL, HOWEVER THE DEFINITION OF ‘‘SPOILER’’ CAN BE SUBJECTIVE AS WELL SO IF YOU ARE AVOIDING EVERY BIT OF INFORMATION UNTIL THE TFA PREMIER THEN DO NOT PROCEED. ***

Got the ROTJ 2.0 Workprint, very happy to see it before TFA in a few days, thank you for that! I went ahead and demuxed the video file and fixed the noticeable subtitle flash frames and glitches around the 14:30-15:00 mark in Premiere then re-exported in the same or higher bitrate. I also went ahead and covered up the timecode on the bottom left, if anyone wants my version to enjoy let me know and I’ll post a link.

You didn’t happen to patch the R2 Swiss Army knife with the 2004 HD, did you?

Haha, no I did not, I haven’t even watched the whole thing yet, I just was re-rendering this one so my wife and I (and maybe some friends) could watch it without timecode. I saw the subtitle glitches mentioned and quickly found and fixed with masking from next/last frames. What part of the film are you referring to, timecode wise?

I don’t have the film on me. When R2 is zapped as Han and Leia are trying to get into the bunker, he flies back and his appendages all fly out. Harmy only patched one of the two shots.

Also, since you’re new here I will point out: Don’t post the link in this thread, use PM.

Also, also: Harmy has generally been okay with people re-encoding his work, but it might be polite to ask him anyway since he is seeking feedback on this one. That said, everything you’ve fixed is stuff we’ve heard about multiple times, and you obviously did it for your own viewing pleasure.

Should altered color grading in the subsequent releases of Star Wars (or any film) be preserved?
Time

I was just looking at the various 97SE versions that I have (to compare to the newly on usenet althor LD rips), including TB and Gkar. The Team Blu release is pretty similar to the others, but it does look to be adjusted throughout.

Anyway, I’m not sure what the dogmatic answer to your question should be. But I think they’re worth preserving when the color looks good. Aside from all of the 1997 SW films, the Raiders DVD and WOWOW color timing come to mind. None of these are timed accurately compared to their respective original releases, but they all look pretty damn good and very natural. I’ve finally managed to snag Adywan’s 97 ESB reconstruction, with color meant to match the 1997 version, and it looks really great.

John Boyega on ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’, Deleted Scenes, and Whether Han Shot First

He’s fun to listen to in interviews. He has a healthy sense of all this craziness and doesn’t take it too seriously. I particularly like his reply to the who shot first question. He doesn’t even let the guy finish the question before matter-of-factly answering Han, then asks the interviewer “what kind of question is that?”

That seems similar to JJ’s response from the same interviewer. Something about being insulted that he would even ask.
