Team Negative1 - The Empire Strikes Back 1980 - 35mm Theatrical Version (Released)
Time

Lol, it’s fine.

Really though, thanks for pointing out these deletions. I was just discussing in another thread the fact that older releases can eventually go unseeded, unhosted, etc. So, grab things while they’re available. I didn’t take into account that an idiotic team might go about erasing their own stuff. Let’s make sure these releases stay available.

Williarob hasn’t deleted his own torrents. A few days ago I made a statement about the team being much better off without Negative1. And then sort of retracted that. Unretracted. Guys: ditch that fool. You can do it without him.

Also, I had no idea that the site log was a thing. Useful for mysteriously disappearing torrents.

Who is rastous? An admin? Whose authority did he delete it on? It was not uploaded by “we” (the team), but by Mr. Nice Guy. Did Nice Guy comply with the team’s demand or did they pull some strings?

In that case, that’s outrageous. Trying to delete their history by removing torrents and trying to get these threads locked? I would say we should just re-upload all their shit, but it looks like they might try to go over the uploaders’ heads and beg the admins. Wtf?

edit: hurm why isn’t my image producing correctly?..

I suspect he means the upcoming cleaned up version they were discussing (sanitized version) or the Fuji scan they had planned for much later.

edit: I assume you were responding to the person asking when we’ll get ESB.

How can you tell the condition of it from those pics? Just curious.

I can’t, and maybe someone with more experience will correct me.

But I was going off the ebay description, which states that it has vinegar syndrome and warping bad enough that the owner calls it shrinkage in the auction.

(in b4 “I WAS IN THE POOL I WAS IN THE POOL”).

But it might still have been worth posting if someone else already had a copy and needed specific frames or audio or whatever. I dunno. 😃

WOW! Thank you all for your answers!

I feel like a kid at a baseball game, and four of the star players just tipped their hats to me.

(smiley face)

But just to clarify, if I were to want to download a previous version after a newer version had been released, as long as I still have all the rar links, I’d just re-download it the same way I had the first time, correct?

Yes. But I just want to inform you that those links are taken down constantly in some cases. The links that you’ll find on some tehparadox uploads are often only active because someone is actively responding to requests to re-upload and fix broken links. That might not always be the case, and I’m not sure how Harmy’s preferred file lockers are with retention, but I just thought I’d let you know not to expect something stay active once it’s outdated.

If you want something, grab it while you are able to.

How much until the total is reached now? I want to donate but I’m a broke college student.

I update the amount regularly, you can find it in the first post. Micro-donations are making a big difference too, but if you’re too broke don’t worry about it 😛

You’re at exactly half of the amount needed in the first post!

Whether they’re on paradox or not, the issue is indeed that people need to maintain those links, which can be a lot of work.

For SW, the difference for 3.0 is going to be much more than simply the resolution. But regardless, I’m sure there will be multiple versions available, just like there are several formats of 2.5.

The issue of archiving old editions is another matter. This Star Wars scene has a strong enough following that private trackers are likely to be a good option, or requesting a someone send it as a favor. People archive old versions of everything, but it’s mostly for a sort of scene nostalgia, or for future conparisons and things like that. Most people would probably agree that subsequent releases are absolutely upgrades and render the old ones obsolete.

Edit: fourth place, no medal.

That’s my opinion, yeah. Still recolor them to be not as bright.

Like my test render (what I was planning to use as final) or even less bright?

Also, can you clarify the reason for changing your mind, just so I understand it. You still think SSE/Tech are the same basic subs, you just find that the 2.5 ones weren’t a perfect match (to either Tech/SSE)?

You work wasn’t in question, I think it looks great. Perhaps I should’ve posted in the main Harmy 2.5 thread.
I don’t have access to anything to compare to, guess I need to acquire the GOUT just for my own curiosity.
The original film was far from consistent, so no I’m not looking for that.

Got ya. Well, while the GOUT is no ideal, it might be the best to refer to if you’re discussing inconsistencies, rather than heavily modified versions that have been torn down and rebuilt.

That’s not a bantha.

The SE has a CGI abomination in place of that Dewback.

I don’t have access to the individual elements Harmy used to make these shots, so all I can do is adjust the entire shot as a whole. If you try to make one element look perfect, you can screw up another aspect. I’ve stated it plenty of times, but I’ll say it again: if you’re looking for a perfectly consistent version, you’re not going to get it from me.

I’m not sure why you posted this here instead of the PM where we’re discussing the preview.

But yes, my understanding is that they were not shot at the same time, because the first image (chronologically) is a matte painting they made later because they had no footage of the cantina without extras in front of it. So the shadows are different, etc.

‘Protocol’ isn’t always followed and people do post 35mm stuff of interest in the various SW 35mm threads for visibility, which isn’t a big deal.

More appropriate would be to use the ‘other’ film restoration subforum (non-SW). But visibility is a bit lower. But that’s less of a problem when there’s more than 13 hours left of an auction. Regardless, crossposting is unwanted. Especially bumping various threads in the same subforum. Anyone who sees one will see them all. And in this case, we’re seeing a print in poor shape that isn’t really usable.

What happened to his eyes?

Edit: Also, I think that adjustment probably speaks to Harmy’s points about how difficult that scene is to color correct. You can go and do something like this (or similar), but you’ve introduced a host of other problems for the sake of not wanting the Rancor scene to be blue.

This is my best guess as to how this scene should look. The Death Star Walls are blue and green. Tarkin’s uniform, as has been discussed on my thread, is green (although color problems in the blu-ray don’t allow many color gradients here, which is why Tarkin’s hair has gone a bit green).

The attempts to make the walls neutral just look dead to me, like the home video releases where the color has been washed out.

Very, very nice. Dre’s latest images look great too. But it’s damn tough to balance those walls to be a reasonable shade of blue. Since you’re working with Harmy, I’ve very excited for his 3.0, which he says should be technicolor inspired but more modest than before.
