Harmy's Despecialized Star Wars 1977 - Color Adjustment Project for v2.7 (released)
Time

I think I actually answered you earlier. Are you cropping the left and right in addition to the top and bottom? You need to, because doing what you ask requires the sides to be lost.

My obnoxiousness is a result of you acting like we wasted your time by giving you a version that wasn’t screwed up. You’re the very first person I’ve ever seen request something so messed up, but you claim that we are minimizing interest by doing it the way everyone wants it (correctly). Go on blu-ray forums and suggest similarly bad ideas and see just how unpopular your preference is. You might be nearly the only person who wants to watch films in this manner.

Your comments on the color are even less appropriate in this thread since the entire project is about changing the color of the release you’re complaining about.

Right?

The original wasn’t a cropped piece of shit, so please don’t say you had any intention of watching the original.

Furthermore, you could crop harmy’s into the piece of shit you so desire if you were willing to wrangle up a few brain cells for the task.

Finally, you didn’t download this version at all, since I never sent you the link. I’d tell you to fuck off, but unfortunately the appropriate thread is Harmy’s and I don’t want you there either.

Edit: I really can’t wrap my head around how stupid your request/criticism is. Films are sold in their appropriate aspect ratios except for in cases where someone screwed up. I can’t help but feel that this is the first time you’ve ever paid attention to aspect ratio and decided it bugs you. That’s the only way this makes sense.

Okay, ill try anyway: Also your cropping isn’t working because you would need to crop the left and right sides to squeeze it onto your 16:9 monitor, meaning losing actual video. That’s why it is framed the way it is. As is any decent blu ray release of material that is not 16:9. You don’t want to mutilate the film to make it fit your screen (though you are free to).

The foreign audio tracks are tiny in the scheme of things. Anyone who finds it a problem (I.e. not the many thousands who enjoy DESp) probably wasn’t going to download a 16gb file without that audio either. And those audio and subtitle tracks have proven very popular. Also keep in mind that Harmy himself is from a non English speaking country.

There’s a pretty nice avchd size release. But you’re not going to get the horrible quality 700mb 1080p blu-ray rip style release that most pirates are used to.

Thanks to anyone else who is fielding the AR question. I think I would be unable to muster as polite a response. 😃

Info Wanted: Sorry if i asked this before or if it's in the wrong place. But does anyone know what happened to the Halloween Death Of Jamie Lloyd fan film?
Time

The right section would be “Fan Edits of Other Films”, I think.

Did the project have it’s own thread, though? Or maybe on fanedit.org?

Edit: Oh, is it a complete ‘from scratch’ fan film? I don’t know where that would belong or if that’s a separate community entirely.

My justification for the scan is the presence of actual film grain and film stock color attributes. Yes, scans would be awesome for the pieces of this edit that need them, but I’d really like scans for projects like emanswfans.

Sure. There’s that as well. But I really don’t know if it would be worth the tremendous amount of time and energy it takes to clean up a film, for these ones, just to get a bit of grain. Could do a grindhouse version, but these CGI-fests aren’t really the type of film that’s fun to watch that way. At least in my opinion.

As far as color goes, I was under the impression that the HDTV/DVD era ones were in great shape, aside from a couple of strangely pink shots in TPM.

An HD AoTC scan would be useful just to see what other changes can be found. I think there may be more than we know of. Conversely, I suspect that a scan of RoTS would be mostly a waste of resources that could be better spent. The theatrical version (which SD resolution telecines exist of) can be made by putting a single wipe from the blu-ray into the HDTV version. If one really wants to see grain on that film that was shot and distributed digitally, they can always add artificial grain.

Han’s death redone https://vimeo.com/162194483 password tfa

I think on a technical basis you did a really great job. The transition into the Starkiller shots seemed to go well.

But in the end, the length of the Hosnian destruction really took away from the impact of Han’s death. Leia is now grieving over just an overwhelming amount of awfulness rather than Han himself. And by the time we get back to Chewie, that raw response he had is diminished immensely.

I’m not sure if this is something you can cut back and forth from to get back to Han’s situation more quickly. Or if you can just put the Hosnian destruction into another spot late in the movie like this in order to accomplish what you want.

Episode VII : <strong>The Force Awakens</strong> - film &amp; fan art, + covers etc

It looks very modern and basic and lacks the words “Episode VII” which has baffled me since it was also left out in virtually all promotion material.

Marketing the episode number wasn’t really a thing until the prequel era. Pretty brilliant marketing done to make you feel that you really haven’t seen the complete story yet.

I think maybe he was hoping on TN1 to get around to it, to benefit projects like this. And now he’s saying we should try to get this done without them if they aren’t going to.

Despite the status of the PT among fandom, the films will probably still fetch very high prices at auction. I think it would be pretty damn hard to justify spending thousands for a few seconds worth of footage needed to bring TPM and AoTC to their theatrical versions. That said, if we already knew someone with access to the prints, I would chip in for a scan.

Oh look. Another 2016 registrant is a piece of garbage.

What the hell happened to this site? Is it just the influx of TFA trolls? General influx of members since TFA, resulting in a higher than average troll count?

Immediately after the film’s release, we had a number of new Stormfront-esque members complaining about black people, so I’m guessing it’s the former.

The Divergent Series: Rogue one

(People get what they deserve: shitty SW movies for young adults wrapped with nostalgia. This is getting worse every year. Ep VII looks like a masterpiece now in comparaison)

People who preemptively decide they want to dislike something/everything get what they deserve: nothing enjoyable.

But we already know how you feel about the idea of female leads, so your comments here are hardly surprising.

THX on 35mm Tech IB preservation - HELP NEEDED (work in progress)
Time

poita said:

Yeah, once the other drives arrive, I will put together a semi-cleaned up version quickly that should be quite watchable, I ned it anyway to plan the proper cleanup workflow.

If someone could put together a scene list from the bluray, of what has been changed, then I can do the full restoration of those scenes first, before tackling the restoration of the entire film. I’d also restore those to match the blu-ray, which would be quite a different process to what I have planned for the film itself.

I did a ghetto restoration of THX using the 16mm scan (audio and SEN), the LD, and the BD. The vast majority of changes are listed here: http://www.movie-censorship.com/report.php?ID=541751

I don’t think it’s 100% comprehensive as there were a few other slight differences in frames here and there (plus obviously the pre-1978 differences to consider), but it’s everything major that I noticed (between LD and BD). I wish I still had my NLE project files but it seems I do not.

Anyway, that list would be a fantastic start for cleaning up the vast bulk of the shots needed.

The BD has a blue tint over much of the film. I removed it from a lot of scenes using an LUT that someone on OT made. Are you guys planning on matching the BD to the IB colors?
