I really hope everyone loves my last minute change in tastes as far as color timing goes. I think it’s really the way the film was meant to look.

It would seem it’s a really bad idea to avoid a thread for a few weeks when one of the posts was on April 1st. I couldn’t believe my eyes for a second there.

I’m happy that I actually fooled someone.

2.7

It shifts a bit in the GOUT edition as well. Kind of interesting.

Worth noting, it also affects the color of the T-16, making it a bit green as well. I’ll need to grab a copy of v2.7 or see some more screenshots from it to see how it looks throughout the scene, but if the v2.7 shot you so kindly provided shows it at its worst, then I think it could already represent a bit of an improvement over v2.5.

This is one of two scenes that is 100% identical between 2.5 and 2.7. It looks fine to me and changes would really be too nuanced for the scope of this. There are some inconsistencies, but they mostly coincide with the hologram being on or off.

I considered using harmy’s 97se for the bulk of it since I think it looks slightly better, but it makes the inconsistencies larger for the despecialized shots.

I hope you don’t mind me being a bit off-topic here, but I just took a look through 2.7 and I think I have a new favorite version of Star Wars to watch. Great work, towne32 and everyone!

Thanks to you as well. And to harmy, Darth Lucas, and the individuals in TN1 who worked on that restoration (I know williarob did work on reel 3, so thanks specifically to him).

Eh, it’s from typing on my phone.

I keep editing it, and it shows it fixed, but seems to revert?

Edit: oh, I was repeatedly fixing the second error and having browser cache issues. 😃 it happens pretty much every time I type shots on my phone (including just there) and I’m surprised this is the first time someone quoted it in time!

Info: Evidence of TFA Changes in Blu-ray?

Perhaps you just recognize the score more easily now. I know that was the case when I saw it again in the theater after listening to the CD a bunch.

It could also be the levels sounding different on a home setup. Others have claimed that they hear the score more clearly now. Though I think it’s still too quiet.

I agree that the score differs from the CD (it always does) but I notice no change on the BD. And none quite thoroughly compared the content of the credits.

Either way, this is a good example of how useful a cam bootleg can be, though not for the credits. Maybe someone will check if you have anything specific in mind.

I think I once understood that being his point. Which is why I suggested that cropping all four sides is required.

But then i assumed otherwise because it’s difficult to understand that perspective. He figured out how to crop two sides but not the other two, though they’re all on the same settings screen? And then blamed other people?

Anyway, at least it seems to be worked out. Until the next round of OT madness begins.

“The fact is that your preference is a very unpopular preference, and because of that, there isnt any need to sacrifice bluray compatibility just so that people watching on a HD have the option of cropping the image.”

… that seems to be the problem in a nutshell… I didn’t realize that it MUST be letterboxed in order to get full wide screen for BR. Most torrents are not letterboxed.

“You are literally the first person on this forum asking for something like this.”

…That surprises me. It’s not like TV always shows the wide screen version either, even when one is available.

“Just go into the manual crop in VLC, crop off the letterbox, then crop off the desired amount of side-image, and enjoy your botched version of Star Wars.”

…I closed VLC and tried this again. Now it works with manual cropping, while previously it didn’t. Odd. Problem solved, thank you. Now if I only found my old CRT… ahhhhh.

So after all this I think the issue (aside from attitude) may still be that you don’t understand aspect ratios.

If it happened to be filmed in exactly 16:9 it will have zero black bars on your 16:9 TV.

If it is 4:3, it will have black bars on the sides.

If it’s 1.40:1 or 1.35:1 it will have bars on the tops and bottoms.

The issue really isn’t whether or not the file was made for BD compatibility or not. Even if we didn’t care about that, it would still be rendered with the same aspect ratio (vlc would just add it like it does for 4:3 video). Even if there was more than just you requesting this, the logical thing to do is release the intact film. You can come along and do whatever you want to it. But if it was released the way you want, there would be no way for the thousands if people who want it intact to uncrop it. Does that make sense?

Oh, I’m not claiming that 2.35 is innately superior. Just that it’s absurd to later crop a film of part of its picture.

But even if it’s your preference, it’s extremely rude to tell people they’ve wasted your time by making the real version available to you. If you want a different version, great. Then make it.

This guy even posted a list of options he seems not to like. And complained about several hours to make the version he thinks is superior when others have spent hundreds of hours making the versions he mocks.

He’s not a troll, he’s just a rude ass.

I think I actually answered you earlier. Are you cropping the left and right in addition to the top and bottom? You need to, because doing what you ask requires the sides to be lost.

My obnoxiousness is a result of you acting like we wasted your time by giving you a version that wasn’t screwed up. You’re the very first person I’ve ever seen request something so messed up, but you claim that we are minimizing interest by doing it the way everyone wants it (correctly). Go on blu-ray forums and suggest similarly bad ideas and see just how unpopular your preference is. You might be nearly the only person who wants to watch films in this manner.

Your comments on the color are even less appropriate in this thread since the entire project is about changing the color of the release you’re complaining about.

Right?

The original wasn’t a cropped piece of shit, so please don’t say you had any intention of watching the original.

Furthermore, you could crop harmy’s into the piece of shit you so desire if you were willing to wrangle up a few brain cells for the task.

Finally, you didn’t download this version at all, since I never sent you the link. I’d tell you to fuck off, but unfortunately the appropriate thread is Harmy’s and I don’t want you there either.

Edit: I really can’t wrap my head around how stupid your request/criticism is. Films are sold in their appropriate aspect ratios except for in cases where someone screwed up. I can’t help but feel that this is the first time you’ve ever paid attention to aspect ratio and decided it bugs you. That’s the only way this makes sense.
