I know that some of you youngsters think that the Internet began with the WWW and torrents, but you should really make the effort to learn about Usenet.

Maybe someone can host it on BBS, or we can get an IRC listserv going. 😛

Yeah holy shit you guys, Usenet is not that difficult to configure.

I don’t mind paying a few bucks now and then for access when I find something rare on there that is at risk of soon becoming too old to obtain, or will otherwise not be available by other sources. But I definitely have no intention of maintaining a monthly account with usenet providers. Has nothing to do with simplicity of figuring it out.

In the case of new, popular releases, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with patiently waiting (and politely requesting) access via other means that are not effectively behind pay walls. But I can see why it would go to usenet first of course.

Yeah, you’re right. Like I said, I wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt. Unfortunately the form of trolling he chose is one that mocks new users (but he also seems to be a new user with actual newb questions). Oh well.

It’s more the fact that I’d like to be helpful towards him and not ignore him when he has actual simple questions. But I think we’re past that.

That was what I originally thought. But when you admitted to trying to troll as subtly as possible while still asking many basic (but potentially honest) questions. Well, boy who cried wolf etc.

Your username probably doesn’t help the situation. Figured it was ironic early on (or you were very young), but after the trolling it just looked like any other sock account name that Wario kid would make. Like a novelty, themed, or alternate account.

Anyway, we obviously don’t worry about being serious all the time here and some of us tolerate/enjoy the occasional derailing. But I think most of us like to know what/who we’re dealing with.

Not sure if it is against the rules or not. As far as I know, no one has determined if he is a sock for an ex member, but that would obviously be bannable.

The annoying thing is that he mixes in new user type normal ignorant questions with absurdly stupid ones. So, ignoring or responding harshly to the ones that he calls his “subtle trolling” risks setting a bad precedent for how people respond to new members who legitimately have similar questions.

I would love to be a fly on the wall when and if the pitch is given.

I love that you think it’s going to happen.

Well Mike has said he already had things lined up. For all we know, a pitch has already happened.

Yep. Because Disney is completely unaware of the interest…
Thank God this was pitched!!

It was a pitch for a finished restoration.

Damn, I was hoping for one in the less than 100 dollar range so I’ll probably wait out to get a better one.

When it’s actually in stock, it’s a bit cheaper refurbished here: http://www.focuscamera.com/audio-technica-at-lp120-usb-direct-drive-professional-turntable-refurbished.html

If you’re looking to spend <$100, I would recommend staying away from anything new in that price range. They’re poor quality at best, and damaging at worst. Either buy vintage from craigslist, save up more money, or… don’t bother because it’s an expensive and admittedly silly hobby that you might just grow out of. 😃

One minor glitch that I notice when watching SSE, is in this shot: https://picasaweb.google.com/102542760950977079734/StarWarsSpecialEditionChangesHD#5514975327942007154

There’s a point where there’s some artifact or warping in the bottom right corner.

Also, I wouldn’t normally have mentioned it since it’s not a big deal and SSE isn’t meant to be 100% dirt free, but since it’s right nearby where I’m talking about: the very next shot (after the wipe) has some pretty huge visible damage on a few frames, from what I recall.

Sounding good as usual. I think it might also be good to mention why you’ve slightly despecialized it, before people either start submitting requests or asking “how you could do _ without removing jabba or greedo shooting”, etc. Since you’ll be working with Harmy for DE 3.0, there would have been no reason to go through all the work fixing the colors of the sunset, lightsabers, and rocks, if they’re the wrong versions. Presumably you didn’t spend too much time color correcting other things like Jabba or CGI ships, and used similar or identical settings to another scene?

Well, we have 35mm film scans that are available now, so someone could verify your claim about the 35mm. It could be that there is variability among the 35mm prints, but that would be unprecedented as far as documented esb changes.

If it was present on the 35mm, sure, it should be included. Including it on the main mix that represents the 35mm, just because it was “at some point” present pre-SE (but not on the 35mm itself) doesn’t make any sense. The tracks are representative of the various specific mixes including 35mm and 70mm/16mm versions from start to finish, rather than being composites of everything that was present prior to 1997.

And I wouldn’t worry about one little thing being insignificant. Around here, the littlest things tend to be the most significant. 😛 In this case, you might not be correct, though. The Grindhouse release of ESB should have the 35mm optical track present to be sure.
