There is one film I know for sure has a deliberately altered, revisionist CC. I think that it’s The French Connection. Someone correct me if I’m wrong.
Yeah, that’s a pretty damn good example. At least they released an updated, if still not perfect, blu-ray.
That was apparently present in the 70mm mix (and therefore the 16mm). Since you were expecting it, maybe it was present in a home video release at some point in time, but not the theatrical 35mm audio.

Yep. I remember the first Xbox pulled the same crap with CD-Rs (you could rip music to replace the music in some games, but only from official discs).
If you are going to put movies in the list because of major color tints being added. You may as well add Stargate to the list also.
I’ve thought this list was interesting because it provides many solid examples of irrefutable manipulation of the films. I agree that things like color (also DVNR) are also reasons why current home video releases can often be problematic, but it’s done so frequently I think it might drown out the alterations that were deliberate revisionism with cases that are just due to shitty grading and remastering.
I’m not necessarily protesting adding that stuff to the list. Just thought I’d mention that there have been other threads about color timing issues, and that this list was a bit more interesting without it in my opinion.
The new BD just dropped to $15 on amazon.

That could probably be removed if it was a superior version worth using. From the screens, it doesn’t really look like it is.
And I would suggest that a 1981 change, made before the film was even available on home video, is even enormously less “vandalism” than the 1997 changes, as it at least occurred in the OT era. It of course shouldn’t take priority over SW77, though.

Sorry again about complaining about the starfield. It wasn’t that bad, just not exact. Perfectionist that I am, I am down to the flyover section in remastering it. I just have to find the time to edit just over 400 frames to get it right.
It’s not a big deal, and it isn’t as if you were wrong.
My main point is just that very few people downloaded or cared about the ANH crawl. There were no positive comments, just the few complaints.
Towne32, are you going to use the SE crawl like before, or are you going to try and get the '81 crawl from Darth Lucas that he says he’ll be done with soon (or he maybe already is)?
Just doing the SE crawl like before. I love that yotusya and DL have put so much work into the 81 crawl versions. I feel bad that when I watch them, I only seem to pay attention to the faults. Things like static grain, etc, bug me than the technical accuracy of the position of the stars.

Eh, it’s fine. I just don’t understand the need people sometimes have of making sure other people don’t get the version they want, as long as it doesn’t affect the other options. I recently ranted about the exact same thing in njvc’s blu-ray thread (someone wanted to eliminate an optional BD50 option because he only liked the BD25 option). It’s funny enough that the user’s name in that case was A_New_Hope. 😃
The SW77 release would of course always have been the priority. Nothing else would’ve been released ahead of that one.

I made an ANH crawl for 2.6, so it’s not an unreasonable question.
I did my best to ignore this, because I don’t know if I will indeed get around to encoding and uploading such a thing. Mostly because for 2.6 I did so and no one ever said anything but to complain about the starfield. But holy shit, you people are obnoxious sometimes.

Regarding covers etc, anyone working on that? I imagine there are already some despecialized ones that could be a starting point? (On my mobile and feeling way too lazy to search for anything)
There’s a thread that probably has 100 or so options for despecialized.
One 16mm print of Star Wars inexplicably sold for a couple thousand bucks in the midst of TFA fever, and now prices are artificially bloated. (As is anything Star Wars.) None of the others have sold though.
Overly rich fan or friend of fan at best. At worst, intentionally inflating the price for another sale, or money laundering.
All Jedi prints are actually low fade. We’ve had several 35mm prints scanned, so I don’t think there’s a need for 16mm at all.
But regardless, the price is absolutely absurd. Even for 35mm it would be absurd. 😃
The lossless master was mostly in case he couldn’t get the existing video streams working. But he did.
I’m not sure if he really even has much room to spare. But if he does go about reencoding, we might also want to discuss encoding settings as Harmy’s were already well optimized. Wouldn’t want him encoding h264 with adobe and unintentionally downgrading the video quality or something. It also introduces new chances for errors to slip in.

I think an ‘insert’ card would also be important in this case, to describe all the audio tracks and subs that will not be present on the menu.
Given how massive and full these discs are, it might be a good idea to have the members here test them out before making the version permanent by uploading to the spleen, etc.
Issues with the audio tracks might also be better discussed with Catbus or hairy_hen (not sure who is responsible for the French track). Basically, Harmy does the video and uses audio/subs from those guys. 😃

There are a few issues with the french srt file, regarding the translation. I believe they are partially based on the original dubbing which was quite flawded. Here is an example:

I don’t know French or if there is a problem here. But I think you’re looking for Catbus rather than Harmy for a matter like this.
