You really should see Ryan Johnson’s doctor. I know it’s not “canon”, but the woman who played the doctor was quite good, it wasn’t a joke, and it was 30 years ago. There were 4 episodes, the 4th one being the best.

Ryan has a website that can be found with a modest bit of googling.

I am intrigued - will certainly give it a go.

On a separate note I don’t get all the selective cherry-picking of past episodes to try and discredit the notion that a Gallifreyan can’t change sexes - we’re told, and have been shown, that they can change colour, age, personality, character, memory, and sex - so it’s hardly a big surprise…

Over 20 regenerations of various characters in old and new Who before Missy, not once was there a gender change not once.

and just because it hasn’t been mentioned in the earlier Who content doesn’t mean it’s any less correct.

perhaps, but if Timelords can change gender, the lack of any mention of this(and the lack of it actually happening) for over 50 years, is quite glaring.

The Doctor will be a woman - big deal.

Just like it would be no big dead if Romana or Rani changed into a man. Right.

It wouldn’t be a big deal if Romana (Fred) or Rani regenerated into a man - as previously said. Why would it?

What are you talking about with this (Fred). If Romana ever regenerated into a male and went by the name Fred, I have never heard about it.

Read back through my post on it in here - and you’ll find the answer.

Now, why would it be a big deal if Romana or Rani regenerated into a man?

Or worse!

RIP 1963-1979

I actually would be open to giving it a go if they had cast say, Hayley Atwell. But instead he went with the one actress I was actively dreading the most. Her character on Broadchurch is easily the worst of the entire ensemble. I just don’t see it working. But we’ll see.

Yeah. Her character on Broadchurch was frustrating. Her acting was great. Same with Black Mirror.

Great casting decision, great tears from the predictables!

Thank you alex,

I am aware of this other project and I wish him good luck, but I’m less convinced in his technical and artistic choices than in RU.08’s (IMHO).

While I don’t believe he has said that and I don’t want to speak for him, he doesn’t post in this thread anymore and you should not get your hopes up for this.

Are RayRogers and jedimasterobiwan one and the same? If so, why hasn’t the RayRogers account been locked as well?

Where’d you get this idea from?

It was probably the shift in conversation, from discussing an unknown jmow sock to Ray discussing socks and defending himself seemingly out of the blue.

Extremely different levels of literacy and coherence, though.

Has there ever been any official word on whether a character in Doctor Who who meets an older version of themselves, interacts and affects the timeline remembers the encounter?

I’m thinking mainly of Missy and Masty here - are we to assume she always remembered what happened in this last episode before he regenerated into her? Or is it a case of time retconning memories only after the events happened to her?

Or are we just not supposed to ask?!

There is often a throwaway line about how the timelines are out of sync, or similar, thus having only the latest incarnation able to remember the events. This was a crucial part of Day of the Doctor.

In last night’s episode, however, that seems to be ‘mostly’ true for Missy, who does perform that trick that she and the Master have a vague recollection of, sans any real detail. She and Harold/Master did have the typical conversation about timelines being out of sync, as well.

While it’s true Tennant had some awful stuff (Rose romance, “I don’t wanna go” especially), I don’t recall the worst stuff being as bad as, say, “Kill the Moon”, “Robot of Sherwood”, or that viking episode that had an evil lion show up in the last 20 minutes and derail a character study. Clara was especially mishandled, she was given a few good farewells but kept coming back only to leave with a whimper.

Robot of Sherwood was okay for a comedy. But it was typical mediocre material of Gatiss. He did Idiot’s Lantern for Tennant, which I would say is on par with or worse quality than Sherwood. He did Victory of the Daleks which was the worst episode in a mostly fantastic Series 5. And he did the eye booger one for Capaldi which was quite bad. I liked his Ice warriors episode this series.

I agree that The Girl Who Died went a bit off the rails. Some enjoyable parts, and I liked the ending. But it was a letdown after Mathieson wrote the two best episodes the prior Series.

I was definitely disappointed in Kill the Moon. As a scientist, I actually normally really like bad science in sci-fi. Sometimes more than attempts at real science that are poorly executed. But this one went too far at the end, to the point where I had to roll my eyes. The original Ice Warriors is another Who that has science that is really just bad. However, I loved both of Harness’s other stories (the Zygon two parter and the Pyramid one). Kill the Moon didn’t quite work the way the problem was handed off to the humans at the end. But looking at it as a sort of trilogy, where it always comes down to the same kind of responsibility/decision theme, but with different outcomes, it’s a bit more enjoyable for me.

Anyway, I’ll take any of those over Fear Her.

Ultimately, I don’t want to be ignored ever again on these forums.

I’m glad you’ve finally admitted what this is really all about. Get less attention, make bigger claims and bigger threats, because we can’t help but respond to it (especially when you’re threatening self harm constantly). Not having someone looking at you and worrying about you would be the worst, right?

My biggest complaint about Capaldi’s shows, is that even when there is one or two good stories, there are always three or four completely incoherent messes to bury them. I’m with Tobar. Can’t wait for Moffat to leave.

The character has been around since 1963 in television, audio, cinema, comic book and novel form and in every iteration over those many decades when it is bad it’s dull. When it’s good it’s astounding. It’s nothing to do with any particular show runner, though a fresh injection of creativity tends to spark the greater stories. For every Robots of Death there is a Horns of Nimon. For every Midnight there is a Fear Her. For every Heaven Sent there is a Sleep No More. Roll with it.

Indeed. There are (for some people, I don’t know what Handman thinks) rose-colored glasses for older series of the show. Series 3 has some absolute classics. Utopia, Blink, and the Human Nature 2 parter. It also has, IMO, 6 or 7 very weak episodes. Season 12-14 of the old series is considered the best by many fans. But even Season 12 mostly only has Robot and the Ark in Space going for it. Robot and Revenge of the Cybermen are weak, and the Sontaran serial is just having fun running around on location for two hours to fill the time.

I’ll take Series 8 and 9 over 6 and 7. Been a while since I’ve seen 5, but that probably hasn’t been topped.

Maybe. I know I am not a fan of the 12th/13th Doctor*, maybe I will like the 13th/14th Doctor more . I thought the regeneration was going to happen in the Christmas Special and I thought the Christmas Special was going to air on 12/25, not 12/26.

Sure. I just meant that the series will be out of Moffat’s hands once the Christmas Special is done.

As for the regeneration, they seem to be doing something tricky with it as

***Spoilers for last week’s episode ***

they may have shown the beginning of the regeneration already. And they may show more of it this week. People have speculated that they might try to get away with an ‘on air reveal’ of the next Doctor by showing them early. It’s never been done before, but part of the reason for that is that by Christmas time, they would have already started filming series 11, and the news would get out. Given that they filmed that short clip of Capaldi (possibly) regenerating only two weeks ago, it sounds like they’re up to something.

I saw a little bit of an episode this season. I can see the series is not for me anymore. The Master switching to a good guy/gal? It is ok that he/she murdered people because people eat meat??? Sorry no thanks.

It’s possible that seeing a scene out of context isn’t sufficient to understand the series. It’s not clear what is going on with Missy just yet, but you are certainly not supposed to be trusting her with open arms. This Doctor certainly is darker and rougher around the edges, and doesn’t always harp on his appreciation for the importance of each life, etc, as the last few Doctors did.

The show goes through phases, and the Doctor varies in personality. December 26th, a new guy will be in charge and a new actor will play the lead. Maybe it’ll be more to your tastes, or maybe not.

Probably a misunderstanding. He probably took “smh” as in shaking your head in shame, since that’s usually what that means.

Up until this moment, I always thought “smh” was short for “so much hate”. In many cases, it would have been kind of interchangeable with “shaking my head”. But there were certainly times that I thought, “damn, that’s an over the top response. Oh well. Must just be how the youths talk, now”.

Does it sometimes mean “so much hate”, or am I the equivalent of grannies who, 20 years ago, thought LOL meant lots of love?

With regards to that missing reel 5 frame, is the gout audio (from despecialized) better synced with or without that frame?

Well, this is interesting, because this is the exact place where there is a discrepancy between SW Despecialized 2.5 and the NTSC GOUT. I’ve never seen it discussed as anything but an error, and I ‘corrected’ it for 2.7.

Is it possible that Harmy was simply using the PAL GOUT?

I have indeed noticed the extra frame when looking at the blu-ray, but I didn’t know this was anything other than an SE anomaly.

Depending on a number of parameters it will take a few minutes to much longer. These were all done in a few minutes.

So, would it be possible at some point to have the bot crawl through all of the shots in a scene (or film, or selections of scenes you deem it fit to regrade) and make the correction it’s trained to make. Then, produce LUTs based on the changes made (assuming LUTs could vary slightly between shots in the same scene), and apply that to the shot as a whole? Just trying to think of how a whole film would be graded with a few minutes per frame. Cloud computing/supercomputers of course would get through it quickly.
