Attack of the Clones: Color Correction of the Blu-Ray (Released)
Time

It’s necessary. Don’t want ntsc stutter. You also might want to export it with about 10 times the bitrate for 1080p, or about 4 times if you want to do 720.

Yep. Worth learning these things, as you don’t want to spend a bunch of time color correcting things, only to introduce new problems in the final step.

As wonky as colors are in some of the Star Wars releases, I think I’d probably take that over repeated/stuttery (or blended interlaced) frames or super low bitrate. But again, issues like these help you learn about the different important steps in rendering and editing.

I added the data rates to the file info. This probably explains the file sizes.
The original Blu-ray had a framerate of 23 fps, but my editor gave output files of 29.97 fps.

Well, that is not right, then. 😃 should be 23.976 as output.

Also, there are HDTV caps and restorations of the DVD version of the film if you want to watch it in HD with better color.

Even 4K77 will run out of disc space on a 100 GB disc. It will be much bigger in 4K

Most 4k movies are around 50-70gb it might be different for 4k77 but I hope it’s around 50

Is burning a ‘homebrew’ 4K BD (h265, I think) something that is possible to do now? Can you make menus? Can you use all blu-ray sizes (25, 50, 100 GB) so long as your video fits?

It’s interesting that the pressed format of 66 GB does not seem to be a size that you can buy in writeable format. What is it, 2 and a half layers…?

Yuck. Removing his “art” (copyright infringing images themselves) from your page is one thing. Removing his name? What a joke. That’s not the kind of person you want to work with anyway, so no big loss there.

If you think the suggestions for ROTJ:R so far are “pushing” Ady to go too far, you must not have been around for the ANH:R and ESB:R threads early on…

Point being, we throw a bunch of shit at the wall and Ady has proven he has a good head for taking the good suggestions and leaving the shit where it belongs. But sometimes you don’t know of something is good or shit until you throw it out there.

(To be fair, I wasn’t in the ANH:R thread until after its release, but I’ve read through most of the early pages by now.)

Makes sense. There’s no harm in offering politely. The previous releases should indeed prepare people that some of their more drastic suggestions might not make the cut.

Cut that. Cut it cut it cut it - do it. Now.

NOW

On the other hand, there are posts like this.

I wonder if Adywan is going to use Harmy’s Despecialized version to replace the out-of-focus section (shuttle Tydirian approach and landing on Endor).

That would be good if he was using the current Tydirian shuttle since Harmy did a great job with that. However, Ady did say he would be replacing that shuttle type with a different one. (be more of a cargo shuttle as opposed to the exact type that is Vader’s and Pal’s personal shuttle.)

The issue covers a good little chunk of the film, I believe, including all of the shots within the shuttle, Vader’s concurrent scene, and a bit on the ground after landing.

I’m almost certain adywan previously said that he would not be accepting suggestions for this update of ANH:R.

Absolutely. So far it’s going to be the same edits, except for the original DS plans and maybe no prequel music.

But what about the suggestion we’ve all had about having the small display start with the original DS plans and then having it change to the ANH:R plans through some static? We all agreed that that was a good compromise.

I haven’t been following closely enough to have seen everyone suggesting this but what would be the point? I get that it is a compromise for various forum members, but does it make any sense in the film, as opposed to just showing whichever version Adywan prefers?

Episode IX: The Rise Of Skywalker - Discussion * SPOILER THREAD *

TV’s Frink said:

Do we know for sure that JJ had no plan with what to do with the ST?

Based on the things Rian has said, it was entirely up to him on what happens to Luke next. He has said, I believe, that he basically just picked it up from exactly where JJ left it off and made it his own thing. I’m sure there are greater discussions with Kennedy et al. that they’re not going to tell us about for spoiler related reasons. But from everything JJ has said, his decision to leave Luke was due to what he wanted to get out that film as opposed to a desire to set up Luke’s role in the trilogy.

We will probably learn more once the ST can be discussed retrospectively.

Edit:

TV’s Frink said:

Or that it was up to him, for that matter.

We only really know what we’ve been told. Both JJ and Rian have expressed that they had a tremendous amount of freedom with regards to what they do in VII and VIII. Of course, we assume there are limitations and restrictions, and that they aren’t going to discuss things that were forced upon them. But decisions involving Luke have been made by JJ (leave him out of a film) and Rian (something unexpected that apparently Mark Hamill initially disliked).

So, my assessment so far is that of course they don’t have complete autonomy, but they have more than I would have expected.

Did JJ have much to do with Lost beyond the first season? I believe he stayed on as a producer, but I’m not sure that the controversial ending was related to him. And even that was down to the fact that the show never really had a plan (as far as I know). They made it up as they went, which led to some great ideas and moments, but not something that could have really been resolved well.

But there’s still a parallel between Lost and the ST. They’re both things that JJ kicked off without a plan for what to do with it later on.

Star Wars Episode IX (was) to be directed by Colin Trevorrow - DUEL OF THE FATES RIP
Time

Interesting. For the director, I think this is great news. For him being the writer? While I would probably not have wanted him to do VIII, it could be a bit better having to deal with the plot as Rian leaves it off. And in turn, dealing with the after effects of his own setup for Luke (for which he apparently did not have any kind of long term plan).

Edit:
googles “Chris Terrio”

… Oh.

Now thinking more about it, I do say completely ax out boba fett from the movie.

Instead, there could be an extra character added that could be an imperial spy. Kind of like in The Force Awakens you had a resistance spy and an imperial spy …

Anyway, it shows a guy sneaking off the hallway, maybe after Luke kills the rancor. He could be in a cloak, or looks like some kind of bounty hunter or something. He Takes out a communicator and says “Inform Lord Vader Skywalker is here.”

If there needs to be more added about this concept: After holo escapes, the video screen can be used with an officer reporting to Vader that explains that troops found the Palace empty and rumors/reports that Jabba was killed and Skywalker escaped. Vader can be silent … or just choke the guy … whatever is needed.

It adds a good connection for the first part of the movie with the rest. It also goes with the scene with the emperor commenting about Vader’s search for Luke and telling him to just wait for Luke to come to him.

Even better: at each point of the movie where Luke leaves a place Ady should add an Imperial spy who reports to Vader that Luke is here and later to inform him that Luke has left. At Jabba’s palace (“ok then, Lord Vader, he’s gone, and Jabba is dead”), in Dagobah (“well, Lord Vader, he’s gone and Yoda is dead”), in the Rebel Fleet (“Lord Vader, bad news, he’s gone, and a space mexican guy is co-piloting the Falcon now”), on Endor (“he’s… oh! okay, he’s just surrendered himself. My job here is done”), on the Death Star (“Vader is gone, the Emperor is dead, and Luke is leaving again. Damned !”). The same character can also be added to TFA:R.

Instead, let’s just have the annoying hovering search droid from Mos Eisley SE constantly buzzing behind Luke’s head, keeping out of his sight.

Someone here also made a good case for a lot of the 2011 changes seeming so random because newly added foreground elements are things that could easily be made to pop in the planned 3D releases. New ESB sparks, the dug thing, a crazy ass door, R2’s rocks, maybe Han’s thawing effect?

I know, I’m pretty great.

It makes sense that it was you! Now I can name you next time I describe this theory, at least until I forget again.

I would certainly prefer if the dug thing was absent from the steps, though. Any word on that one?

I didn’t even bring the Dug up because it doesn’t make any sense in a shot that’s supposed to show that EVERYONE is asleep.

Another thing, I wonder if Ady can get rid of the audio of Greedo from ANH from Jabba’s Throne Room.

I assume the logic in adding the dug was “oh what a nice clean shot to add things to with so much open space!”

I wonder when Ady can come in and say that he’s certainly not adding MORE Boba Fett to the movie.

I’ve been looking forward to people listing the little things that ate at them for years. Like a moving blaster hole or scuff mark, or like someone just pointed out, the fact that Luke’s lightsaber expands in size randomly.

What about the Blu-ray changes? Ady kept the sparks in the Cloud City junk room. Will he keep the new unthawing animation? What about R2’s extra gizmos that pop out when he’s shot? WHAT ABOUT JABBA’S PALACE DOOR THAT’S NOW 3 TIMES BIGGER ON THE OUTSIDE THAN THE INSIDE?

I’m definitely curious about the door. I could go either way with the R2 gizmos (I’m a purist by default, but it does seem like a normal SE type thing - though I assume it is in someway problematic/contradictory).

I would certainly prefer if the dug thing was absent from the steps, though. Any word on that one? I’m also curious about the Ewok eyes. One of the fan editors here made an okay case for the blinking in that their benefit isn’t making the Ewoks seem more realistic or less like inanimate teddy bears (they don’t), but in making them look more horrifying and nightmareish. I can buy that. But still curious.
