If you are talking about playing the blu-rays on Xbox one, you can’t. According to towne32 X-box Ones are specifically designed to not be able to play burrned media.

I have no idea what their capability for playing ISO files is. Perhaps Towne32 or another member does?

Update after lots of hours of research Xbox one do allow burned blu-rays https://www.vg247.com/2016/11/04/blu-ray-bd-r-and-bd-re-discs-now-work-on-both-xbox-one-and-xbox-one-s/

Thanks. Guess that happened quite a while back now.

Also, I made the mistake of looking at the comment section.

Does anyone know how to get their BD-50s to play on PS4s? Whenever I put my disc in the PS4, it says Unrecognized Disc. Do you guys think it is because the videos are in .m2ts file formats?

If it’s a disc that works in another blu-ray player, it probably means your PS4 has a pickier laser than the other player. I’ve only used Verbatim discs and never had an issue. But lesser quality ones might have problems. My PS4 reads discs burned using the BD50 iso files.

m2ts files are part of the blu-ray video format.

Do you know if the Xbox one can read ISO files burned onto a Blu-ray Disc

Well, as you’ve posted, Xbox One can apparently read burned discs. News to me, but I’m glad they’ve changed their ways!

But I’d just like to clarify what you’re trying to say. They way you’ve worded it sounds like you mean that there is an ISO file sitting on the disc. As in, you would put the disc in your drive and see a file named E:\Thing.iso on the disc if you browsed it.

I assume Zerome thinks you meant properly burning an ISO image to disc and not what I described above. Though maybe I’m wrong and the Xbox can do that, but I find it very unlikely.

There’s really no reason to burn a disc like that. I’ve got HDDs with .iso files that I use media players like Kodi to play back. But it’s a specialized function. If you’re going to burn it to the disc, you want to burn the image properly so that it reflects the contents of the image file. Otherwise you need to put the disc in your computer, mount the image on the disc, and play it. A waste of a disc, really.

Sorry if none of this is what you meant. It’s a common problem both in that people new to this burn things the wrong way, and it’s easy to describe the wrong way.

Are you saying my discs are the problem with the PS4 not reading it? Should I buy a different brand like verbatim?

If they’re being read by other standalone players and giving you an error that the disc can’t be read, probably. There are occasionally other issues where certain methods of encoding give flickery video on PS4, but not disc read errors.

Verbatim discs are great, and you should pick those up next time either way IMO.

As far as the effect of the label drying, it was the biggest problem for CDs. CD surface/label layer is the data layer. If you damage it, or write on it with pencil or rip it off with a label, that’s your data you’re removing.

Fair enough, what I encountered at work quite likely was a burned CD rather than a DVD. I didn’t realize though that DVD is less susceptible to data loss from label side damage, that’s interesting to know, and I’ll certainly be looking into that more.

Yeah. On CDs the label is the data. On DVDs, the data layer is fairly safely sandwiched between two halves of the thick plastic layer. And for BDs, it’s extremely close to the surface opposite the label. I.e., most of the plastic is in between the data and the label. So any scratch that makes it through is likely to cause major damage to the data instead of just affecting readability (which can be fixed by resurfacing a CD). That’s why BDs have a scratch resistant coating.

You can put a comment on the Paypal receipt that it’s for the $1000 challenge and Adywan can tally those specific receipts next weekend. I don’t have a problem with that. But you have to put on the receipt that you’re participating in the challenge.

Fair enough. I’ve done so.

That sounds like the best solution.

I did get a reply from Adywan and doubleofive before I posted the challenge. If either had any questions or reservations I would have waited to post.

Oh, okay. I misunderstood.

I get it.
That’s why I notified Adywan and doubleofive last night that I intended to do this. This username was created for just for this challenge. They both know my legitimate user account. I have been an active participant on this site for nearly 5 years and I would expect that you might even recognize my usual user name. I was also one that helped Adywan out when his camera broke a while back (over $800).

The only thing I can do with the info in a Paypal receipt is put money in your account. Though if anyone feels there is any sensitive info on the receipt then black it out. I just need the date and the amount. Or if anyone has another suggestion for proof on paid donations feel free to speak up.

How about just have adywan tell you how much he received during that time period? we can trust him.

And we can trust him more than the random user, any of whom could easily make their own paypal receipt. Unless I’m mistaken, you can’t verify those transactions anyway.

Anyway, you probably should have gotten permission for the sock from the admins as well. Or at least waited for Adywan to respond…

bummer. I guess I’ll go get the Sharpie then.

Or you can, despite them being printable, buy adhesive CD labels and print disc art on those.

It’s what most of us do, I’d imagine.

only use adhesive labels if you want your disc to be unusable in a year or two. the adhesive warps the disc when it dries.

What? No.
I’m extremely skeptical about this.

Not that I bother with it much though since I have a media server.

This absolutely happens. I printed labels and put them on many discs ~15 years ago. All the discs with printed labels became trash, and everything stored properly is still fine (the labeled ones were definitely otherwise stored well, as they were in individual cases).

At work I’ve seen what adhesive can do to burnable media over time, it is not pretty (and I’m talking like just scotch tape… there were visible “waves” out from it in dye on the other side). Not to say that every adhesive will do the same with every disc, but it has certainly given me great pause in ever considering doing the same at home to anything I care about. Inkjet printable is as far as I go, and I’ve done so with surprisingly good results on a very affordable epson printer, which you wouldn’t even know has a CD tray unless you look just right…

DVDs and BDs have their data underneath the plastic rather than on/under the label. So I think the main risk for them is unevenly weighting the disc or having it peel off and get stuck in a drive. I’ve never had a label on a BD-R. But at least for DVD-Rs, those things were already poorly read by many drives and didn’t need anything else causing them trouble!

I think from that perspective, Adywan’s version of the Emperor scene is by far the best.

I would agree if it weren’t sped up. I get that he was trying to make it match the original performance and ROTJ better but with his inflections and delivery it just sounds unnatural to me. It definitely looks the best tho

To join in the off topicness (with the disclaimer that Adywan’s work is wonderful), the video is more problematic for me than the audio. The top half of the face seems to be a static unblinking image. So there’s no “ideal” Emperor scene and probably never will be. There’s always the original, though!

Okay. It’s the idea that your blu-ray players don’t have ISO support that’s confusing me. They don’t need to play an ISO, they just need to play a disc. An ISO is an image of a disc, but when you burn it as an ISO, it just puts the whole layout of the original disc onto the new one. You should not have an .ISO file on the disc.

When you put the disc in your computer and browse the files, do you see a BDMV file on the root of the disc?

It also looks like my Panasonic DMP BD60 doesn’t have the proper firmware support to play iso image files either. I’ll try figuring out if it needs an update or not.

This has me concerned about your method. Are you saying that your disc has an ISO file on it? Like you put the disc in and then mount the ISO and play that in VLC? You need to burn the image to disc.

See my post on the previous page for more info - this is what I thought might be happening. It’s not a DRM/player issue, it’s the burning method (I think).

Yeah, it isn’t really an apt comparison or ironic at all. The tinkering is getting rid of poorer quality elements that “we” (Harmy, the community, etc) introduced in trying to emulate the original.

Ironic would be… I don’t know, trying to conform 2.7 into Harmy’s original partly despecialized release out of nostalgia?

Also, what does the file structure look like for the disc when you view it in your computer? I give you the benefit of the doubt that you followed the guide correctly. But when people that are new to this have discs that are completely unreadable on a PS4* (as opposed to just having issues and skipping a lot), I find that the most common reason is that they’ve burned the ISO to a disc as a file.

i.e., they will see a file such as E:\starwars.iso instead of a folder such as E:\VIDEO_TS or E:\BDMV.

*also, an off topic reminder to all of the helpful people here that when someone has this issue with an Xbox One, don’t tell them to burn another disc! They bought a machine that is intentionally made not to play recordable media. Most people don’t know that and discs are expensive. 😃

The Mos Eisley entrance in Revisited is far better than the SE version, but there are still quite a few goofy looking cg droids and creatures in the background. It would be really cool if this could be addressed, perhaps keying in some filmed extras in their place?

Agreed. Would love the Rontos to be gone in general. And the search droid going door to door. And the Dewbacks. I would just leave the far dewbacks in the ‘look sir, droids’ sequence that replaces the original. But all of them nearer the camera are goofy ones. The one right by the Cantina switches from CGI to original, among various shots in both the SE and Revisited.

I’m also wondering if Ady has thought about reverting the scene where Han chases the stormtroopers down a corridor in the Death Star and encounters a group of them to the theatrical version? The SE version definitely amps up the absurdity but perhaps too much so.

Should be able to accomplish this by formatting a thumb drive to exFAT format, which can be read by the PS4 (as opposed to FAT32 which can’t hold over 4GB and NTFS which can’t be read by the PS4.

Yeah that didn’t work for me - anything i should be doing in particular?

It’s not immediately obvious, but your mkv file needs to be in a subfolder for the PS4 to recognize it. Can’t read any media from the root directory. If you’re still having issues, you should probably post in the tech help subforum instead (seemed like it should have been fixed quickly enough that wouldn’t be necessary but… maybe not).

I don’t have this set, but people do seem disappointed in the lack of “wooshing” sound effects when the titles fly in during the intro credits. Apparently they also left out some shots of an ambulance accidentally.

Probably because they animated in color in the first place. The color POTD was a waste of time.

Charles Norton’s team only produced a b&w Power, but they’re doing Shada in color now.

The color Power was made by a Canadian team unrelated (and unendorsed the way Charles describes it) by the actual team. That came about when BBCA got involved and wanted to broadcast it.

Hopefully Shada is great. Glad the aspect ratio is correct, and hoping the location filming is all HD and nicely restored.
