How will you be watching the saga in preparation for Force Awakens?

Serious question: why do you continue repeatedly (albeit “rarely”) to watch movies you do not enjoy?

Not very serious answer: I’m searching for the part of my comment that says I don’t enjoy them at all and finding nothing. It’s a relatively short comment, so I’ll read it a few more times to be sure. I did misspell occurrence, though. I meant to correct it at the time, but I guess I just pressed post.

Slightly more serious answer: I enjoy them in some ways. They aren’t anywhere remotely near the quality of the OT, though. So I don’t want to switch back and forth between the two. I get the idea of machete order for people who want the twists preserved, but I’m not sure what the point is when you know who Palps and Vader are.

I never saw any article that said Daniel Fleetwood saw a “4 hour” version of TFA. I saw he saw an unfinished version but never in any article did I see 4 hours. Perhaps you can link me to the source. I follow his wife’s fb page as well and never did she state that.

This is the source of that information (or more likely, misinformation). There’s no way there was a four hour ‘rough cut’ in October/November. Perhaps he got to see four hours of material including behind the scenes things and out-takes, bloopers, etc. I’m sure it made his day, whatever was shown.

Nothing wrong with being cautious.

You’ll actually find that torrent sites that require login information are far, far safer as far as copyright takedown notices go. They target people who pirate new MPAA and RIAA releases, and occasionally take down the extremely massive private ones, as they did with Oink about a decade ago.

As far as ‘download utility’ I assume you mean the torrent client software? There are dozens, if not hundreds of those, and that is indeed an area to pay attention to. As with any freeware app, the longer it’s around, the more likely the authors will sell out and begin bundling it with other useless garbage and adware. qbtorrent is clean and easy to use.

Not sure what the decryption ability function or corresponding concern is about.

I tire of such things.

Can you not have one of your loyal subjects download it for you?

There are reasons that it’s not just posted to stream on the front page of this site. Although Disney and Lucasfilm have been very lenient with Star Wars copyright issues in general, there is of course a point where the ease of accessibility would be too much and generate the wrong kind of attention, and possibly the wrong kind of relationship between fan editors/preservers and the powers that be. If you uploaded the entire DeEd 2.5 film to youtube, you would see how quickly it would be removed.

It’s good to be skeptical of what software you run on your PC. Too far in the other direction and you’ll end up like one of these people: https://blog.avast.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/browsercleanup.png

However, downloading things through unofficial means is simply about using your brain on a case by case basis (a practice that should be recommended in every aspect of life). The word torrent scares a lot of people, because they probably heard stories of a friend who tried to torrent something ridiculous like Justin.Bieber.FULL.ALBUM.MP3.rar.zip.EXE and had a bad experience. The mechanism by which you get the file is not going to dictate whether or not it is a safe experience. A mega or rapidgator or whatever link is no safer than a torrent. And a major (i.e., not some fly-by-night site) torrent site will generally have a comment section where people will point out quite explicitly if there is a virus or trojan. If you are downloading movie files, obviously do not proceed with a torrent that is full of other types of files (executables, scripts, etc). Things are not nearly as shady if you are not trying to download software.

In short, it’s easy to obtain in the ways that thousands of others have managed.

As much as I believe the films should be watched in release order (or at least Machete/Rister order), I want to save the best for last, and of course there is a sense to doing it chronologically. Also, I’ve decided that, while I prefer fan edits, I want to see them all as the were theatrically (which, now that I’m thinking of it, I should probably get a Phantom Menace theatrical preservation). Unlike some I don’t feel the need to gauge my eyes out watching the theatrical PT and I actually have some nostalgia related to those films as well as the OT.

I feel the same way. On the rare occurrance that I view the six films, I want the PT over and done with so that I can be refreshed by the OT.

I’m not sure about all the existing theatrical preservations of the PT. Adywan had one for TPM, but I think it was SD (and no idea if it’s even available anymore). Might as well just get the SD LD-rip or TV rip, then? There is nothing watchable as far as AoTC goes, and RoTS is virtually unchanged (in any meaningful way). I’d suggest Schorman’s HDTV preservations for episodes I and II. Really improves the color timing over the blu-rays, and the DVNR for TPM. Plus, puppet yoda is closer to theatrical, for your interests. Very slight color improvement for RoTS. But the blu-ray is ‘fine’ for that film.

Have been super busy with work this week but I wanted to weigh in on the newest TV Spot focusing on Finn. I think it’s my favorite one thus far. It’s a pure adrenaline rush! I loved the banter between Han and Finn and his “Hell no” line.

I’ve seen a few grumblings that that language is in Star Wars but my mind immediately went back to Sir Alec Guinness saying “damn fool [idealistic crusade]” in SW77. There’s a precedent for real, adult talk in Star Wars.

Apparently CBS is going to air an interview with Lucas about his non-involvement in the ST. The preview makes it sound like Ardnt was indeed staying true to Lucas’s teenager plot outline before Abrams et al took it in another direction. Would be curious to read the Lucas story in a comic or novel some day, but as an Evil OT.com member, I am obviously glad that the films aren’t sticking with George’s plans just for the sake of George’s plans.

My first reaction was: not bad at all. A bit desaturated for in the Tantive for my tastes, but the rest looks pretty good.

But then I read your post. You’re saying this is with a single correction across the entire film? Quite impressive if that’s the case. It’s not an easy thing to accomplish. Do you think brights could maybe be a little bit brighter without losing much in the way of detail?

Is a "customizable" edition feasible?
Time

This has been discussed extensively in some other threads. As far as blu-rays go, I don’t think there is any proof that amateurs/faneditors/we have ever gotten seamless branching to work without pausing for a second or so. There have been some great ideas posted, but so far I am not aware of anything that has worked (including any of the tests I have done). Possible to do it with DVDs, though.

The other thing that comes up is matching sources as far as quality, color, grain, etc. Could get quite messy depending on how many options you plan on making. But I see the reasoning behind doing so. When it comes to semi-specialization, pretty much no one is going to agree 100% about what cuts to use. Personally, I think re-composited shots that use the original elements are great, and show off the art or model work. But if someone else loves recomps but also Mos Eisley dinosaurs, that makes for quite a different film.

Episode VI: Return of the Jedi — The 'Ziggy' Edit (Released)
Time

Great to have you back!

Didn’t quite compare it to the previous list, but it looks pretty similar. I believe you toyed with the idea of reinstating ‘I know’ in addition to Rancor. Just chiming in to say I would be a fan of such a version. The ‘I know’ is certainly no deal breaker, but would really prefer the Rancor in.

Visually, I think the scene holds up well in its SE state.

Or jedi are still not very common and/or famous, so lightsabers are just seen as some old antiquated weapons. Thus, the stormtrooper may not assume that the one wielding it has magical forces that makes him a superior combatant.

True. But they’ve still somehow become more common in that scenario, if there’s a standard weapon against them. Could be for similar weapons like the dumb Darksaber things in TCW.

Oh, okay. I assumed you were discussing the execution of it rather than just the fact that it’s a storm trooper fighting a lightsaber (since we’ve been discussing that for a week or two). Yeah, it is not clear why they would be carrying these devices in case they ran into one of the few lightsabers in the galaxy. Either they have other uses or there is indeed a task force for hunting down Jedi (or those who hope to become Jedi?).
