Hi boys! My ex loves star wars and told me this is a good place to talk movies. I havent watched alot of them but I always thought Kirk was hotter.
So anyways, I like movies especially alot of older movies. But if there's one thing I cant stand it's old special effects. I think movies should get frequent updates so they can look good to the eyes of our audiences today. I remember watching Ghostbusters and Back to the future in the 90's when i was a kid, but I re-watched them recently and the effects were totally lame! So I think these companies should release these movies again with new effects so we could enjoy them again! what do you boys think???
Generally, folks around here think that there's value in the old effects. Yeah, they're different, stylistically, from today's effects - but that doesn't necessarily mean they're better or worse. Those movies weren't made today, and it's disingenuous to pretend they were. Movies made in different periods each have a unique aesthetic. Requiring them to match whatever look is popular at the moment demonstrates a lack of appreciation for anything other than that with which you are most familiar, whereas cultivating the ability to appreciate older films in their original state may take maturity while expanding your mind. Additionally, films are art, and modifying them means wrecking up the artist's original intentions a bit. Is there a time and a place for that, the remixing and modification of existing works? Yes, although all too often the results of upgrading effects do not turn out nearly as well as hoped. But even if films are altered over time, the original work of art should be preserved. You wouldn't suggest replacing all the old paintings in art museums with computer generated, photorealistic substitutes, would you? I wouldn't.
There is almost no way this isn't a troll.
Oh man this should be useful in the HOLIDAY SPECIAL SPECIAL EDITION

Yeaaaah good luck with that.
Miklos Rozsa's soundtrack to "Ivanhoe" is pretty great. Not only did the prelude serve as the temp track for the Star Wars theme, but the rest of the movie has the right feel. There's at least one theme that's repeated throughout that could, if used correctly, serve as a new theme in the PT, if needed.

In the radio version they don't have the cash and Han takes precious metals needed for parts, over the protests of the Rebel leadership.
Frankly, we never see what's in those boxes.

The Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle applies here.
Easily solvable through observation; the uncertainty collapses regularly.

William Shatner may or may not be the best actor that ever lived.
Disagree. A definitive answer is known: He is not the best actor that ever lived.

I think the concern is that seeing the title "Despecialized Edition" in the menu right before watching the film only reminds them that the Special Editions exist.
....well, it's called The Despecialized Edition for a reason. And you label things according to what they're called, so that you can distinguish them. And you learn to accept the past and move on.
Yeah, it sounds to me like Alec Guiness was a quality, respectable actor who did a silly movie for money. He didn't enjoy dealing with pestering younger actors, and he really got tired of obsessive fans knowing him from this one role, instead of any of the more serious roles from his career which he actually enjoyed. So what?
In which some guy does a total ROTJ rewrite: http://disgruntledindividual.blogspot.com/2012/10/opinion-reconstructing-star-wars.html
Unfortunately, this isn't actually feasible for a fanedit.

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat. That is where I live.
Also, can we agree on a name for this guy that isn't ASCII art? I love the art, but it's not pronounceable.

Seeing the color correction in the remastered edition had me curious about that sacred technicolor print since it's such a miracle to have it at all for reference; if there was anything that concerned me the most about what fans have been dealing with for so long, it's the potential for future generations to be brainwashed by how Lucas wants everyone to view the films as they are instead of keeping such a beloved piece of pop culture in tact to stand the test of time. Unless I didn't read into the details enough to which anyone is welcome to correct me, it saddens me to think we may never see Empire or Jedi in such a preserved condition beyond the limitations we've compromised with; despite the reality of the situation at hand, just being able to not have to settle with the official versions and relive them as we remember them is a priceless opportunity to which Harmy and everyone else who made this possible deserves eternal praise as the rebels who dared to do the impossible.I agree with you. Harmy is working on V2.0 of Empire(which will be done some time next year), and then V2.0 of Jedi(about 2- 2 1/2 years from now).
???
That can't be how long we have to wait for the other two.
Welcome to the world of hobbyist productions. Time is money. No money? Lots of time.
Don't tell me that didn't make sense.

So apparently this was shown in support of RotJ - ring any bells for anyone?
Not only was that really enjoyable to watch, but...

I don't really like the colors either, no.

If somebody (cough, cough) Adywan (cough), could replace the obviously-CGI space ships and such in AotC and RotS with models, I think a great service would be done.
This is why I wish I had significant amounts of time and knowledge that I currently lack.

Frankly, it doesn't seem to be an improvement.
Well, a more intricate plot, then. Trade disputes!
