Star Wars - Episode VII - FACTS IN TOP POST
Time

Speculation!

I doubt Harrison Ford is interested, unless he dies in the first scene. I doubt they'd have anything for Carrie Fischer to do. But I could certainly see Mark Hammil as a wise, old Luke Skywalker. Chewie's a possibility, and the droids seem certain.

I have no idea what the plot will be. Certainly not what they've come up with over at The Virtual Edition.

team negative1 - star wars 1977 - 35mm theatrical version (Released)
Time

Given that -1 & Co. just want to do a pretty barebones release, might I suggest we form some kind of project to do a more complete release?

EDIT: Actually maybe that's just DeEd v3

EDIT2: By which I mean that DeEd v3 will probably use this source when it's superior to other sources, but not when the Blus are superior, and will already have all the sound mixes and subtitles. So... never mind?

8mm film
Time

So, awhile back, I got an 8mm film projector for ~$10 at a thrift store. The bulb still works and the motor turns, but I haven't got any film with which to try it out. It's definitely regular 8mm, not Super8, which is admittedly not as good (I do love me some sound), but it's pretty cool nonetheless.

So, any thoughts on where I can get some 8mm films for cheap, to try projecting? I've never operated a film projector before, so I'd like to learn how to ... put the film in it properly? I figure I'll mess up and ruin some film, so I should start with something cheap and worthless. Advice?

Yowza! I just got off shift and, boy, look at all of the replies i got!

Thanx for sticking up for me, Gaffer Tape. xoxoxo

For the record: yes, im a girl! Is that so weird?

Oh, and timdiggerm, thanx for the explanation, but i guess i just dont get it. Whats the point of keeping old movies around if they dont look good for people anymore???

Well, let's use the last example in my reply. There are plenty of old paintings that don't look very good, now that we have cameras and photoshop. Why do we keep those around?

Updating Ghostbusters and Back to the Future........

Hi boys! My ex loves star wars and told me this is a good place to talk movies. I havent watched alot of them but I always thought Kirk was hotter.

So anyways, I like movies especially alot of older movies. But if there's one thing I cant stand it's old special effects. I think movies should get frequent updates so they can look good to the eyes of our audiences today. I remember watching Ghostbusters and Back to the future in the 90's when i was a kid, but I re-watched them recently and the effects were totally lame! So I think these companies should release these movies again with new effects so we could enjoy them again! what do you boys think???

Generally, folks around here think that there's value in the old effects. Yeah, they're different, stylistically, from today's effects - but that doesn't necessarily mean they're better or worse. Those movies weren't made today, and it's disingenuous to pretend they were. Movies made in different periods each have a unique aesthetic. Requiring them to match whatever look is popular at the moment demonstrates a lack of appreciation for anything other than that with which you are most familiar, whereas cultivating the ability to appreciate older films in their original state may take maturity while expanding your mind. Additionally, films are art, and modifying them means wrecking up the artist's original intentions a bit. Is there a time and a place for that, the remixing and modification of existing works? Yes, although all too often the results of upgrading effects do not turn out nearly as well as hoped. But even if films are altered over time, the original work of art should be preserved. You wouldn't suggest replacing all the old paintings in art museums with computer generated, photorealistic substitutes, would you? I wouldn't.

Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD - V2.7 - MKV (Released)

I think the concern is that seeing the title "Despecialized Edition" in the menu right before watching the film only reminds them that the Special Editions exist.

....well, it's called The Despecialized Edition for a reason. And you label things according to what they're called, so that you can distinguish them. And you learn to accept the past and move on.
