Han D. SoloI used quite a few different filters on that image. I hope it's clear all those images are the same blurry image and the left and right one represent two different approaches of dealing with the blurriness.
As to the Qui-Gon picture, yes I did that in photoshop but it could just as easily be done in After Effects or probably even avisynth.

The Laserdisc, like the DVD, is useless thanks to that pinkish filter (and low resolution).
I was just giving folks another angle to look at really .....

This picture was just posted on Star Wars Facebook page, and it shows another example of the original, warmer colour timing.
Here's a quick comparison (couldn't get the exact frame):
Yes the original dose look warmer. I would say increase the yellow in this shot or adjust the White balance.
Tried that, but the background is affected as well:

Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining. Just explaining why we've ruled them out.

Not to derail the thread, but is that guy in the background with the funny hat supposed to be the same guy who's an advisor to Palpatine in ROTJ?

Han D. SoloThis is from ROTJ...
And yes, it is absolutely off topic in this thread. Try here:

Edit: Sorry, I didn't realize you meant the guy in the background of the TPM Jabba picture. But it was still a bit off topic :-)

Nice find! At least the headress looks exactly the same.
And in the time of greatest despair, there shall come a savior, and he shall be known as the Son of the Suns.

I'm having problems with importing the H.264 file to Premiere or After Effects. Do you happen to know how to do this?

Han D. SoloWhat container are you using? I'd recommend importing in m2ts without multiple audio files and no subtitles.

I've tried to do it on an MKV to no avail. I've also tried converting the file to m2ts, but I still can't import it.

Han D. SoloMKV doesn't work but m2ts remuxed with tsmuxer always works for me, so I don't know what the problem could be.

Use a luma mask and key it to just the areas you want affected by the colour correction. Then you can just warm the areas you want.

Once upon a time there was a Star Wars trilogy. Now there is apocrypha.Wow that is weird.
That "original" frame simply doesn't exist in the DVD version that I have. Notice how Jabba's eyes are slightly more open on the original, and the appearance of a "hole" on his chin that is absent on the original. At no point in the shot does this hole disappear on the DVD, so I assume that this effect was redone for the DVD along with the the rest of the digital additions in this sequence, or the end of this shot was perhaps cut off.
If the character was redone, global color correction wouldn't really work, as the colors of the separate elements may be different.
Sorry if this has been said before, I just noticed it.

Yes, I did it with tsmuxer. I even tried to mux it with the dts track on a separate file, but I still receive the same "The file has an unsupported compression type." error.

Han D. Solo@Alexrd: That's strange. Which version of the programs are you using?
@Neverar: That's very interesting. It could well be that the "original" is just some sort of promo picture and is not actually from the film at all.

5.5.
Is there any special option I need to activate on tsmuxer before the conversion? I think I did everything okay though. The file plays fine.

Han D. SoloNot that I can think of. And CS5.5 should definitely be able to read m2ts just fine. I really don't know what the problem could be.

Something is very off about that shot from the facebook page. In a way I don't doubt it's the original, since there is a difference like the two "holes" in Jabba's skin which seems to have been added in the blu-ray version. But what's off is that in the original, the shadow detail has been desaturated.
This is what it looks like when I've re-saturated those shadows:
This should probably be more like what it would have looked like originally.

Han D. SoloHere's the frame from the pre-DVD TB broadcast:
It seems strange that they would rerender Jabba as early as that - it seems more likely to me that that FB picture isn't from the original at all.

Weird. Maybe the FB picture is from a workprint?
EDIT: Could anyone upload that same shot from some theatrical bootleg? Then we could check if Jabba has those holes in his skin.
