Not if you talk to the younger fans who grew up with the SE's and have never seen the OT.  Some of them only know of the originals as being basically  "rough cuts" with "missing scenes".  And yes I have actually seen that exact quote recently on a message board.

That's a tricky issue. If not for technical difficulties and/or lack of time/money, wouldn't a character called Jabba have been in "Star Wars"? Wouldn't there have been more Wampa action in ESB? And wouldn't there have been a sandstorm scene in ROTJ? or B-Wings?

So, the "artist" was limited by problems. I can see the rough cut perspective.

LEC games: X-Wing, TIE Fighter...
Time

Yeah, keeping your wingmates focused on objectives is really crucial, because otherwise they really are dumb as bricks. I seem to remember obsessively commanding them to attack over and over as I approached the enemy for initial engagement, just to make sure they stayed on course, tight with me. There might even be a way to tell them to form up with you? Not sure what, but potentially ctrl+f.

You know, I bet we could find the keyboard reference sheet somewhere.

Anyway, I would then command them to attack any time I switched targets, so that our firepower was always combined. Hypothetically this wastes shots (If my shot destroys the enemy, and they fire after I fire, they've wasted energy), but I think effectively it turned out much better. Targets were destroyed faster overall, killing flights of targets piece by piece instead of all at once, which gradually decreases enemy shots fired over time (per flight) instead of all three gunboats or whatever ending at once and all having equal time to get off shots.

At least, that is my memory of years ago.

EDIT: Also, back then, I had to play with a mouse. I had a joystick briefly but it broke. Gosh flying with a mouse is a pain.

Later, I played most of XWA with a steering wheel and pedals.

Harmy's RETURN OF THE JEDI Despecialized Edition HD - V3.1
Time

Hey, does anyone know if there is a ac3 file floating around anywhere that includes John Williams revised ending music "Victory Celebration" and matches up with the Despecialized Edition? I'm a film score buff and I think Williams Special Edition music ends the trilogy on a way more epic note. It is the only thing missing in these Despecialized versions that I feel keeps them from being perfect (although I understand that isn't necessarily the intent). Harmy, would you ever consider making one for the fans who actually like the new music that we could mux in ourselves?

Given that the 97/04 ending to ROTJ, which uses the Victory Celebration, is a different length than the 83 ending, this would not work without some editing of the music.

Idea: my first steps into a larger world
Time

Although I really like the idea, the way it works right now is a little problematic. One establishing shot of the Jedi's ship, and we abruptly cut to a room of characters we've never seen, who talk for a bit, and then right back to that spaceship. If you can move the Palpatine's office scene to a little later, perhaps introducing those characters better, that would help a lot. I do like the idea, though, other than losing Valorum.

What's the status of the Originals? (the theatrical cuts of the Original Trilogy)

I actually have the priviledge of having watched them on a Sony 4K projector and it is brutal on optical composite effects shots/duplicate negative  material. This is not the fault of the projector---it is merely accentuating the limitations of the technology used during the making of these films.

Limitations that were obscured by the photochemical analogue dulpication processes of the late 70's("less is more") when the film was running in theaters(be it 35 or 70mm) and also by the low resolution displays when these same films hit VHS/Beta/V2000/laserdisc aswell as (8mm and 16mm home movies).

And that is why, despite what some on this forum hope, we'll never get the OT released in HD with the original compositing.

Water.org is an American nonprofit developmental aid organization resulting from the merger between H2O Africa, co-founded by Matt Damon, and WaterPartners, co-founded by Gary White. Its goal is to provide aid to regions of developing countries that do not have access to safe drinking water and sanitation.
Matt is an admirable celebrity.
Gary was a cross-country runner in high school, and a team mate of mine. Go Celtics!

@tim, again, nice work, and while I of course don't always agree with everything, it's fun to see the rebuttals. But there is one I have to say you didn't address properly: 12 man squads. That is a typical American-sized squad, but the Imperial ordered "three squads to help," which apparently totaled 12 men. Seems small to me. Otherwise, nice work.

Sure I did!

timdiggerm said:

Well there you go. An Impieral squad is 12 men.

I think you're having a maths problem.  3 squads= 12 men.  Therefore, 12/3=4.  1 squad = 4 men.  Kind of a tiny squad.

However, I think Endor is having a hearing problem.  The captain says 'send 3 squids to help!" and 2 of the soldiers are quarrens and another one is a Mon Calamari.  Which is the standard allotment of squids in a squad, along with 8 men and 2 jawas (one standing on the shoulder of the other) so there were, in fact, 13 personages in the squid squad, which is one more than 12.

Oh right. Math. Yes. That.

Filming new TeeCee-Fourthreepio elements would be great, when combined with making the Gungans speak another language. If only it was so easy as that?

Not impossible, if we cut C3P0 from AOTC we can then use those shots, rota him as a separate element then re-color and composite onto different footage or new backgrounds.

Oh okay cool. Let me know when you have that done.

@Wook, I didn't realize that TAS was official canon; I thought it still fell outside of Gene's or Paramount's official universe. Has that changed?

It's taken as canon, yes.
