STAR WARS: EP V "REVISITED EDITION"ADYWAN - 12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW

Anyway, it turned out that he intends to alter the intro. of ROTJ for his eventual Revisited edit, so that it seems Vader is on his Executor rather than some random Stardestroyer...so the existing ROTJ shot of the shuttle dropping down from the front 'bay' is likely to be GONE in his version.

Although this raises the question of "Then how does Palpatine get to the Death Star?", I'm really glad to hear this. Having Vader arrive in the Executor keeps better continuity with ESB, and results in a more impressive SD-flyover shot, instead of just repeating the ANH intro.

Can you imagine if someone tried to piece together the plots from the prequels based on pictures like this?

"He's walking in front of a blue screen... He takes his lightsaber out and swings it around, then continues walking..."

Having been a regular TFN and VirtualEdition reader during the Prequels, I can confirm that it was much like that. Thankfully some info did leak, over time, and so you could start to figure things out.

If any of you are unfamiliar with the Virtual Edition, I strongly recommend you check out http://virtualedition.net/ . They're slowly working on writing and illustrating their own Sequel Trilogy, but the really fascinating stuff is their "Virtual Editions" of the prequels. They were updated over time, so you'll probably find them a little more accurate than you'd expect as dialogue became available through trailers, but it's pretty fascinating to see what spy reports and photos plus photoshop could give you, before each prequel was released. Here's their version of TPM.

By the way, the title of this thread is a little silly. I never thought they didn't film the Barge scenes, you know?

The Prequel Radical Redux Ideas Thread

Questions:

 1. Why does Threepio sneak down to the planet if he's a TF droid? It might work better to make him the Jedi's droid, not replacing the TF Welcome Party. (Note: This might make "Nice to see a familiar face" in ESB a little funnier, if you get what I mean?) If they're ambassadors, why shouldn't they have a protocol droid?
 2. How do they get from the swamp to the city, if they don't visit Otoh Gunga at all?
 3. If we're talking about no gungans, when/where/how/why is the Padme/Amidala thing revealed effectively?

Star Wars coming to Blu Ray (UPDATE: August 30 2011, No! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!)

I'm hoping we can compile some fair reviews by knowledgeable folks like Hairy (sound), Ady (picture) and whoever else you think would be the exact right people to comment on relevant issues with the discs, after they're released. I mean no offense to those who have been saying things so far, but there would be far more value in having a collection of reviews of the actual, confirmed releases.

And yes 005, that's exactly the case.

Why complain about the matte lines anyway? Arent you wanting the video to look as close to the original product as possible? Removing the matte lines will mean more tinkering, which everyone is complaing about. Im so confused by the indecision about fixing stuff and leaving it the way it was.

This is a central tension around here. The best way of explaining it, as near as I can figure, is to say that there are two main thoughts:

1. The Originals need to be released in high-quality scans worthy of the historically important and really great films that they are.

2. If you're going to do a Special Edition, which is pretty understandable given the modern viewing audience and wanting things to be a little more consistent across all 6 movies, at least do a good and thorough job.

Folks around here think Lucas has done neither. Not everyone agrees with #2, but many do. They're not mutually exclusive goals, either, because he could certainly release both.

The Empire Strikes Back is the best Star Wars movie. Or is it?

Empire is a better movie, but Star Wars was the best Star Wars movie.

There's something about this statement that makes me feel like I'm seeing an impossible object in word form.

He's drawing a distinction between two systems of judgment. By the rules of "What makes a good movie?", Empire is better. By the rules of "What makes a good Star Wars movie?", Star Wars is better.
