Well I think we do need to keep track of all the versions existing and make an accurate list of them for the DVD extras because at the moment no one knows more than we do and I'm sure after this DVD is released all of a sudden IMDb and Wikipedia will be updated with the new info and no credits to people like SilverWook who actually spent money and time to retrieve the 16mm version, convert it and so on.

All I'm saying is, try to make an accurate list of all versions (and differences between them) to be added to the DVD extras. If it was for Lucas and his mostly-useless-interviews we would still believe that only exists his "original" version and the 2004 re-edit, while it appears that there is a whole range of versions.

Msycamore I've just seen the sneak-peak you linked, I LOVE what you did with it.

Msycamore when you have a definitive write up for the trivia section feel free to send it to me for translation.

We might actually leave the trivia text I sent you as it is and put it on Disc 2 while we can put a "complete" story of THX versions and trivia on Disc 1. What do you think? Afterall disc two is dedicated to the Italian version and my write-up was mainly focused on that aspect.

A direct transfer LD to DVD was done in the past and I believe is still available for download (I talked about it a few pages back). What msycamore is working on here is a few step forward from that. Not only you have a LD transfer but you also get some restoration (msycamore is working on removing the infamous white spot), the extra disc with the unique italian cut of the movie (subtitled in English) and a few more extra such as rare movie posters and I'm supposing the extended scene recovered by SilverWook with English audio.

Msycamore I'll work on the subtitles for those part which I "corrected" on the first run. We will have a complete preservation of the Italian version as it is (shivers). LOL, just kidding, give me some time though ok?

For the preservation of the mistakes... Leonardo seems to agree with you msycamore. He would like it mistakes-and-all. I could even go with it, preservation all the way, but I still find it a bit weird to leave the infamous "foetus" lines. I leave the decision to you people (although Leo practically convinced me already).

I'll prepare the "corrected" subtitles in the meantime because I already know what you are gonna say ;-)

Such errors cannot be preserved, they are way too blatant. Not the "foetus" one at least!

Oh by the way I found the same version of the movie (recorded from "+1" channel) which is 922.80MB in size and 720x576 at 25fps... it can be found with a certain famous... ehm, files sharing program. From the preview of the completed parts I have I can say it looks identical, only mine was much smaller if I'm not mistaken. Not sure about the quality, doesn't look any better to my untrained eye

I like your changes. Cutting away superflous stuff is a necessity in this case. I also wondered wether to do that myself in some cases but since you don't know Italian I thought it would be best to leave this decision to you and faithfully translate every single line of dialogue.

Afterall every DVD contains "shortened" subtitles. Compared to normal movies we actually kept a great deal of the spoken lines.

As for the "Which one of these two stays?", obviously the description of what appears on screen has to be kept! I guess we have to sacrifice the hologram's line even if a casual watcher might be wondering what he said there.

Better leave Heavy Metal alltogether. Nowadays they would do it at the computer becaues nobody can be bothered drawing anymore. Same that happened with Ghost in the Shell 2 where only a handful of things were hand-drawn and the rest sucked.

No objections at all. I approve the changes. The "we might aswell go back now" is much better sounding, thank you. Sometimes it's hard to make a smooth translation after working on it for hours.

Mmh maybe you're right. It seems out of place even as a robot though. I mean, we just saw the robot cops. Could that be perhaps the teacher of the kids... the source of the voice that educate the infants?

The thing behind the kids looks like a statue. Something out of Metropolis. Maybe it looked cheap and nasty in the film so Lucas cut it out. Very interesting set of pictures!
