I did. I fully support it. There is a time for jokes and there is a time to shut up, the movie cant let a suspenseful moment exist without a quip!

Here you go https://vimeo.com/431985484 pw fanedit

This is great! I’d love to see it with no reply from Poe. Just straight cut after Hux said “we have no time”.

But this is great!

When we get the “I’m the spy scene” from Hux.

If I could suggest an edit:

After we hear the shots and Poe and finn turn to look, instead of cutting to the stormtroopers and Hux then saying the line. Have the shots, the characters turn and then cut straight to Hux saying “we dont have much time”.

The characters look at the ground anyway, and it removes the dreadful exchange and it let’s us know everything we need to know and the humour ruins it. Its much better in my opinion.

Remember, Hux helped form Starkiller base, and having his reveal be a goofy one, it removes any form of seriousness.

I posted that exactly cut for Hal a while back but I’m not sure he used it? It’s in my cut though. It flows so much better, IMO.

That Chewie scene is brutal. I’m not sure I wanna see that in live action. 😣

Oh damn! I never knew that! I think it helps remove the “oMg Im So SiLlY” schtick. I hate when characters are in dire moments and they start quipping.

The Last Jedi Poe wouldn’t quip over a moment like that! It’s so god damn annoying.

I love marvel but I don’t want marvel humour in star wars.

The constant change of the lighting on Act-to just doesn’t make sense… It starts out as dusk and slowly darkens, but then all of a sudden it is the dawn? What happened to the night? I think to change the lighting like that would only work if something was inserted to delineate the passage of time like a cut away to the Resistance base or a shot of Rey sleeping (?).

The first half needs tweaking but the rest of it really sells that idea that time as passed.
In Hal’s cut of the movie the time limit that palpatine puts on the movie has been removed.

I think the change in lighting helps make the scene feel somewhat extended.

Here’s a full mockup of the Ach-To sequence, featuring a regrade by NeverArGreat:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1UpnKp8-35PMwuWDXiv2ZjIvsZ93y0BE0/view?usp=sharing

I’m going to be 100% honest… I’m not a fan of this. 😕

I’m not entirely sure why but something is kind of off about it (don’t really understand what day cycle is supposed to be happening). Plus, I think it’s a change that doesn’t really need to be implemented in the film in the first place. I was fine with the Ahch-To sequence as is in regards to the time of day it was set.

But, that’s just me. Others might like it.

I think the latter half of the regrade looks great, the first half is too orange, i think it needs to be darker.

The shot originally is way too artificial, they are clearly on a set, as an irish person, id recognise real irish grass anywhere lol, but it’s fake as hell in the sequence with luke, its too green, the mockup fixes that issue.

I think going from the planet the rebels are on, to another planet with the same type of light, it just feels bland as hell and feels last minute. The lighting is so fake looking and so green. It pulls me right out of the movie.
We are supposed to feel for Rey, while the background is all calm and happy looking.

EDIT: the second half of the regrade is amazing in my opinion, look at how much better Luke looks! when he says the '‘thousands generations’ line, i love it.

As a slight tangent to the Dyad stuff…

I was feeling inspired by MR’s inclusion of Han’s dice in this scene (which I abolutely love, MR): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ueu_fV8lbac&t=6m47s But I wanted to take it one step further. The goal being both to connect backwards to TLJ through the dice, and also to paint Kylo in more layers before his ultimate redemption.

I’ve put together the following clip, and I’d love to know what you think. For now, I’ve included an introductory shot from earlier on, and then I do a quick dissolve to a later point in the film where the edit itself would take place; I just thought it would be valuable to have this context in mind when watching the edit.

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1QhWobZwNLY48z7lDrsKcqSNNTlUHlS2W/view?usp=sharing

The intention is, after the Death Star duel, we should show the dice again before Han shows up, exactly as MR does in his video.

Heck, Kylo talks to Palps in a hallway, then leaves through a door; and the next time we see him, he re-enters what looks like an identical hallway. What was he doing in that other room, I wonder…?

I was testing a version that uses shots from the “Kylo visits the Falcon” deleted scene from TFA, and the shots fit nicely in terms of framing and camera work; but I would need help with the color masking, and someone would also have to help add the red cracks to Kylo’s helmet.

Damn, nice idea. With a shot of the helmet from the back this would be amazing.

I think the dyad line is sticking out because we are focusing so much on it. I think if added back in to the movie with the music playing in the background, it wouldn’t be something of notice.

@jarjar - in the original clip you posted the sound of the wind and the score helps hide the blemishes (outside of the clipping)

You should definitely leave “in the force” in there, as otherwise the viewer might not know a dyad is related to the force.

Anyways, I can’t tell a difference between your first clip, creation, and sherlock’s one. But if people think that your first clip sounds better than sherlock’s then great. I just don’t want to mess with removing the end of the line is all.

What I did to sherlock’s clip is really small, there was a pop/click sound as he said “we’ve”, but it’s only a small change

sherlockpotter will solve this or it’ll just remain poop.

Oh god, Hal himself just hinged the success of whole project on me. Fuuuuuu…

How does this sound for a v2 of the line? If it’s not perfect yet, let me know; but I’ve been listening to the same two seconds of audio for the past few hours, and I’m starting to lose objectivity. I’ve heard it so many times - and I’m hyper aware of where the different seams are - that I’m not sure if it sounds fluid or not. I need an fresh set of ears!

I’ve added an extra layer to smooth the transition a little more, re-pitched a couple of syllables, and I’ve been shuffling the different pieces around by a few thousandths of a second to make it flow better. Thoughts? Be brutal.

https://streamable.com/dwfbr9

Sherlock, could you please post your final clip for everyone in a WAV file? Excellent work.

Also when you say you “added an extra layer” what does that mean precisely?

Whoops, sorry. Sent the line to Hal in a PM at first. Here’s the link: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1jOfypfXSDVkf7Z0p2xVB2ktg0RfwdxRW/view?usp=sharing

So, the extra layer was kind of weird. One of the problems I noticed was that there was a harsh cutoff between “become” and “A DYad”. I tried just lowering the volume of “A DY” a bit, but it still sounded uneasy to me. So I isolated the “mm” sound from “become” and layered it in a bit sooner. Then I blended it in with the “A” sound more. The end result (hopefully) was that it would go phonetically from “become. a Dyad.” to “become [ma] Dyad.”

Rather odd all around. I’m glad that it seems to have worked!

This is really good. I have 2 issues though unfortunately.

  1. When Kylo says ‘‘we’ve become a dyad’’; The word we’ve has a clipping sound to it, i listened with my headphones and it’s pretty noticeable.

  2. After he says dyad the line in the force seems to not flow as well as it could. You did a great job.

I took your clip and i made 2 versions.

In audio One, i removed the clipping & tried to make the line ‘in the force’ fit a bit better.

In audio Two, i removed the clipping & removed the line ‘in the force’ to see if it flowed better.

anyway, here you go

I finished LOTJ not too long ago, I absolutely loved it.
Like many of you I was worried that we would be looking at a time in the jedi that was boring but this is what I want from the Old republic to begin with! So I that shocked me.

Does anyone know the order to read the books and comics, I feel like I’m in the dark

It’s Jack Black’s character from Community.

Will check this out.

I just think it would be hilarious to have a character witnessing important moments.

Standing over vader getting suited up.
Him standing with Palpatine and Vader looking at the death star.

Him being on board the escape pod in A New Hope, being so insignificant that they dont think there is a life form on board lmao

Green screen in a character into every movie, make them old in the original trilogy and younger in the prequels. They will be present for everything but no one acknowledges them. When anakin and padme frolick in AOTC, the character is there too. When Palpatine is shocking luke, hes just standing next to the emperor.

When vader is dying he is standing next to luke.

When we see all the ghosts at the end of ROTJ, he’s stood with them, but he’s not blue…he’s physically just standing there, blocking most of their vision.

I can see the argument for both sides, the movie is already edited originally like someone spent a weekend on coke while editing it.

The pros of the re-edit:
Gets rid of that disgraceful spice runner line. It helps make it feel a bit more suspenseful.

The cons:
Its another scene that’s over and done with no room to breathe.

I’m not sold, but it would introduce a sunRISE.

It’d have to be subtle enough not to make the scene hard to see. The fire and everything would need to look bright.

It could be better, I don’t have the set up to properly grade it and the like but I think done right it could make Luke lifting the x wing seem more striking.

My biggest issue is the fact that I can tell they are on a sound stage. The greens just seem way too overly saturated.
