I would like to give Palpatine his own scene in ROTJ, have him talking to one of his loyalists. Telling the loyalist to meet him on Exegol.

Take the scene where Palpatine is sitting looking out of the death star. Get a palpatine impressionist to say the line. Deepfake Palpatines mouth and we’re golden.
Also, Record someone dressed up as a Palaptine loyalist for the scene.

Here you go!

Haha I saw this this morning. I love it

And @jarjar - dude that actually is a great head canon idea, which in hindsight actually fits.

I would like to hear him say something about preparing to meet him on Exegol.

As you mentioned as well, there is subtle ways of doing it, and I think with a tweak here and a tweak there, it could be accomplished.

I agree as well, but that’s slightly out of my talents haha.

I tried your new line and it sounds completely natural now. But it does feel a little squished. Needs some space to breath.

id like to hear the newer version you made.

https://youtu.be/QqQTZyZAbn8 (latest)

Did my own slight audio fade out only because the line is so squished into there.

Also Nev, I’m not entirely sure why you feel they are no longer a master/apprentice. She is still being taught by Leia, and if he weren’t dead, he would still be her master.

I think it’s too squished, and like i mentioned i think getting hold of the 5.1 audio and putting a space between lesson 3 and the word ‘confronting’ would make it blend better, quality wise you could totally fit the line into the movie, it just needs room to breathe.

i hope someone can PM you the dialogue so you can tweak it.

if someone hear has the 5.1 audio for the entire line it could be done for sure. All it needs is a little push and it would be perfect. id like to hear the newer version you made. I do think we shouldn’t see Luke as he say’s lesson one because his lips dont move.

Alright, back onto “Lesson Three”

https://youtu.be/scU_Zo7dVr0

It’s getting pretty darn close. Anybody have any pointers on what else we could change about the line?

EDIT: ThisIsCreation fixed the line up a bit will try putting that in later. And thanks to JXEditor for the “three”!

I think the line is too close to the confronting fear line, maybe take confronting fear line an move it a second or two forward. we don’t see Luke’s mouth move and it would make it easier to place the line more naturally.

And finally, in regards to the new “night to day” Ahch-To scene… I know it’s pretty much locked in now. However, I was reminded of the TLJ announcement video that includes a shot of Skellig Michael that I had never seen before in the films. I thought it could be something to maybe look at and possibly replace the documentary footage I think the current scene has now.

That’s actually a very nice idea! Putting in some distant fire, and…

That is amazing! You’ve turned an ok sequence into something meaningful

I’m still of the opinion that all the fight needs is a matte painting extending their hallway into a more dramatic room with perhaps a pit they’re skirting. Also, cutting a few seconds out of the fight to make it seem more energetic.

100% this!

It only needs a tiny few tweaks and such. It doesn’t need flips and dips, but adding a matte painting and extending the hallway and things would be a wonderful addition to the movie as long as it stayed within the limitations of a late 70s/early 80s movie.

Any thoughts about the possiblity of changing the lines “weak, like your parents”… to “weak, like your masters”?

No. I believe it would fit in with my proposed idea of having Rey’s parents be bad people who abandoned her because she was a Palpatine and feared of what she’d become while ensuring Palps doesn’t transfer his essence into another Force-sensitive, which f$^!ed up his plans.

I think Rey’s parents were dealt a bad hand and tried to separate themselves from her for her own safety.

I don’t see them as selfish or bad.

I’d go that way too. I’m a franchise purist rather than an OT purist, so I’d be eager to help the OT subtly fit in better with the surrounding content.

Im obsessed with connecting them all but not in an anachronistic way like the re-edit of Obi-Wan and Vader’s fight.

If I was hypothetically able to add things the movie, they would need to work within the limitations of the year the movie was released.
If Mustafar was to be shown, it would need to be done mostly with matte paintings, and camera can only move within the limitations of the early 80s.

My “radical” changes to the original trilogy would just be to blend more aspects of the prequels into it.

Prequel droids and vehicles. I would also retroactively add in the Ghost, from rebels, into the original 3 movies.
I’d have chopper seen in the background.

I would open ROTJ with a scene of Vader on Mustafar. Seeing him contemplate his life and on a black marble table lays things like Padme’s necklace, followed by a servant interrupting, letting him know the Emperors ship has arrived and is waiting for Vader to board. Then the next scene would be them on the death star. Then straight into the tatooine/jabba part of the movie.

I’d deepfake Hayden into the Vader costume at the end of ROTJ, and try and find someone to redub his voice to sound more like Hayden. I would keep the dialogue the same but add a line of dialogue that would hint that some day Palpatine may return, nothing too on the nose, just Vader letting Luke know that it’s ok to let go, but remember to persevere in the face of evil, which would then add to the Luke we got on the sequels in my opinion.

I would also regrade ROTJ so it looks better. It has a weird tint to it that makes it look older than ANH & ESB.

I would also trim alot of the ewok material, as the movie needs to feel more dramatic.

I just found out a number of parents had an issue with “3PO, move your metal ass!” I did find that a little harsh for a kids movie so I’ve changed it to “3PO, NOW!”. Let me know if you wanna use it?

I’m fine with the language being used, especially since we heard Finn call DJ a bastard in TLJ

Beyond the “taking one last look” moment the film treats 3PO’s memory wipe as a joke, probably because it’s not permanent and so it’s not meant to be taken too seriously. But if he didn’t get his memory back it would feel even more jarring/disrespectful how the other characters don’t seem to care much about it and how the film constantly makes a joke out of it.

You’re right.

I don’t hate this movie, I dont even dislike it. It has some great moments, but man does it feel like it was written on set scene by scene

And in regards to what you said Hal, about changing the dialogue. If someone sent me all of threepios dialogue I’d be able to make him say “he”.

But it’s a non issue to be fair.

I’m delighted the Ach-to sequence is doing well, i had my fingers crossed than you guys would consider doing it since january,my quick example mockup didn’t go down well but then Nev came through with an amazing rendition and im so grateful.

I have a question, the Chewbacca scene on Kylo’s ship has been removed; rightfully so considering it exists to hold our hands and let us know he isn’t alive. Have you thought about removing the scene where C3PO gets his memories restored?
It’s a none issue either way, but there is zero reason for us to worry about C3PO losing his memories if he simply gets them restored so quickly.

Okay, here is the new attempt at implementing these critiques:

https://vimeo.com/520121712

Password: fanedit

The fireside chat is now even darker, with much more roto work.

The second half of the Hut scene is now lightened to merge more seamlessly with the next scene.

The sunrise scene has a grade which is now at 50% strength to keep a bit more of the original look.

This is insane. If you could drop the saturation slightly in the beginning this would be perfect.

The scene actually feels powerful now. The colour grade originally was awful, how they let be released in theaters blows my mind.

I’d damn near pay to have this in the edit
