Dark Empire 2 and Empires End sucked in my opinion though, so just the original Dark Empire for me thank you.

I think they could be salvaged, but it would require a fair bit of rewriting. Ditching Palpatine and making the Dark Side Elite the main villains would be great for starters.

I only read those recently. Yikes. WTF happened for it to go off the rails like that?! The Galaxy Gun?!!?

Fantastic stuff, and it reminds me of why I liked DE so much. ! Young Han and Leia fighting together! Leia using the Force in a non-stupid way. A great design aesthetic too - really Star Warsy.

But it undermines ROTJ. And ROTS. Which is entirely bad, except when Disney does it.

Somewhat, but for me ROTJ was about the redemption of Vader and Luke becoming a Jedi, so DE does not completely undermine it. Now if you add in the PT nonsense about prophecies, the Chosen One, bringing balance to the force and all that garbage then, yes if does undermine ROTJ.

Not enough of those, huh

None that are admirable characters since '83.

So you don’t think the prequels rule?

Correct.

Han - Solo Movie ** Spoilers **

I was surprised by how little I hated this film. Not a great film by any means, but it was refreshing to have a star wars film in which the main protagonist was male and was not a force user. It also dealt with one of my favourite areas of the SWU - the criminal underworld.

Of course it was full of absolutely terrible ideas and scenes (this is Post-83 Star Wars afterall). The worst offenders:

-Han speaking wookie
-Lando’s droid; perhaps the worst character ever in a Star Wars film
-Darth Maul still being alive
-those stupid pirates led by that stupid girl

Actually writing about those things is making me dislike the movie more so I’m going to stop now.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order (Video Game)

Waiting for price drops for a video game is a general good rule of thumb. Waited two years until I got Battlefront II for like under $5 I think.

I always, always, always wait many months to buy games now - after the DLC has all come out and the game has been patched. One of the benefits of age is that time moves more quickly - if I was still 16 it would probably be tough to wait.

The Sequel Trilogy we wanted...

Have you never run through alternatives to the Alien 3 film we got and said, “Man, that would have been so much better!”?

Yes. I daydream in this manner frequently regarding movies that did not quite do it for me. In my version of Alien 3, Ripley would have birthed the xenomorph about a third of the way through the film and the Alien would turn out to be a benevolent protector of Newt and Hicks. It might be too “out there” for a lot of people, but at least it would be something new: a heroic Alien.

That is just so weird, it might actually work. Or be absolutely terrible.

And I’m sure you won’t look like an old man that anybody wants to see.
Attacking someone because of their looks is beyond low. Stop.

I agree with both of you. You should not attack someone because of their looks, but I have no interest in seeing Luke, Han and Leia as senior citizens. If only we could have gotten a ST 25 years ago…

Update on my ranking post TLJ viewing:

 1. SW, TESB & ROTJ (original theatricals and DSEs)
 2. TFA (theatrical, likely to be replaced by Hal’s fanedit)
 3. R1 (theatrical)
 4. ROTS (Kerr Fanedit “Dark Force Rising”)
 5. TPM (Anti-cheese Fanedit)
 6. AOTC (Anti-cheese Fanedit)
 7. TLJ

.Val

I continue to be amazed that some people HATED this movie so much that they could actually put it last, behind three terribly made movies.

The main OT actors were not in the prequels, so the prequels really couldn’t hurt them. They are in the ST however. So if you really don’t like how the ST portrays them, then I think you can understand where the hate comes from.

After seeing a bad Star wars movie this always calms me down: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WBrLHMCTDAA

implying TLJ was a bad Star Wars movie

Also, I’m glad they edited that out in the Special Edition. I cringed watching it

No. I have not seen it yet. Probably never will. But whenever you watch a Star Wars movie you don’t like just watch the Ewok Celebration.

Unless you don’t like ROTJ. Then watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iH6a1iYQ0GA

Oh man, no way is the Clone Wars TV series worse than the prequels. Certain arcs and the 2008 movie, sure, but on the whole it was way better than the prequels themselves. The Umbara and final Mandalore arc are both up there with the OT in my mind.

Clone Wars was often very Star Warsy. I was sad to see it go.

Jar Jar was pretty good in it for Christ’s sake. That was an amazing achievement.
