I think it’s virtually flawless in my air pods. I can kinda hear what you’re talking about with the right ear but it might be placebo.
hmm, maybe it’s just me. but it sounds just a tad too loud, and perhaps not as Robotic as the original. not in tone or delivery but in audio.
Here’s something new from JJB. What do you guys think?
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1DwmceJ0DiMyqbkGC-sEHo_rfelpqBzZV/view?usp=drive_link
it sounds almost perfect. it does sound as if it was mixed more towards the right channel though.
Actually before we start anything Hal, if your’e there do you want the force speed removed?
Or maybe easier: A reflected shot hits the ceiling, smoke comes down, the Droids keep shooting, when the smoke clears the jedi are gone.
hmmm, that could work. Lemme try that.
Has anyone ever tried to slow them down or add a smoke cloud that covers their disappearance or something?
But how would that work though? couldn’t the Droidekas shoot them down as they hastily ran down the hallway?
I have an idea that could work. While deflecting the laser blasts, either Obi-Wan or Qui-Gon deflects a shot that hits something large on the ceiling—it doesn’t matter what it is. When it falls, it provides cover, allowing them to make their escape while still being shielded. The droidekas could then shoot at the fallen object, breaking it apart like they did with the door. Afterward, we can continue the scene with them running down the hall, and we can just say they got a head start.
That addition was so stupid. It felt like the writers were stuck and couldn’t find a way to have them escape, so George just said, F**K it, make them run as fast as the Flash. This completely breaks the logic of every lightsaber battle in Star Wars history—if they could do this, all those duels could have been avoided. It makes me want to cut it out entirely. The only problem is figuring out how to make that work.
Here’s an example of color correction:
Original COD:
Corrected:
Frame by frame correction required to removing that awful green cast.
The green color couldn’t just be desaturated (removed) as it would leave a grey blob, so the original color of the explosion had to be restored.
Full clip: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1xEUY5mIuakq5KBNRgeimNqaOCrFKw-Jb/view?usp=sharing (the GIF really desaturates it).
Video coming soon, stay tuned.
@That guy with no name
I believe our PM called “TESB Color Correction” is possibly referring to your correction in this thread.
Oh ok. This project was stopped a while back… if I can find the files I"ll send you a lut. How does that sound?
That sounds good. Then maybe I might ask you how to use a lut.
what editing software do you use?
if you can’t figure it out, once I find the lut I’ll apply it myself and send you the film.On www.thestarwarstrilogy.com there’s directions for applying a lut with Ripbot264 which is one of my go-to encoders. I’ll first try with Ripbot.
As long as it works with .cube luts that should be perfect.
It does!
Perfect. When I find the lut (somewhere in my edit files) I’ll pm you.
Have you found it?
Sadly no, It looks like I’m gonna have to re-do it. shouldn’t be a problem, when I get the time I’ll send it to you over PM. sorry about that. hope I haven’t ruined any marathon plans.
Wow that looks good. Can’t wait to see more!
thanks
That color grade looks great so far from what I’ve seen. Really brings it more in line with the rest of the PT. Phantom has always just looked off for some reason…
probably because it was shot on film, while the rest of the prequels where shot on digital so they have much more of a neutral grade, which is what I’m going for here.
Wow that looks good. Can’t wait to see more!
thanks
Quick VFX sample of the upcoming Final update of COD. Still a WIP.
Original COD:
New:
added antennas and decal to match previous shots. and color grade.
Maggie Smith
Harry Potter, Richard III
She passed on today.
The entrance to Mos Eisley’s shot is very baffling to me as to how bad it looks.
perhaps this was done for the scrapped 3D conversion?
perhaps they needed things to be in different layers to accomplish that?
just a theory, it looks disgusting either way.
If that’s the case then why does that shot in 2011 blu-ray look so much better? and why do the foreground elements look so sharp and clear? it’s as if they re-rendered those elements but didn’t do anything to the background.
I was thinking that bc the 2019 ones are higher resolution the old CG just sticks out more as dated. I’m not really all too knowledgeable about film restoration so.
yeah, but in that case it would have to at least look the same as the Blu-ray which it somehow doesn’t. the clarity of that shot on 4k is like 1/3 the clarity in the Blu-ray. but the foreground is razor-sharp and extremely clear. and i’m 90% sure they were shifted in the shot slightly too, but don’t quote me on that.

That’s bizarre. I wonder if Disney is sitting on another edition they plan to roll out in the future. Maybe 50th anniversary? It’s only a few years away. I can’t imagine they would do a theater only regrade.I’d love to belive there doing another edition. but restoration? unlikely. Remember Disney/lucasfilm sat on the 4K restoration for 8 years! and technically didn’t even have 4k in mind when they originally scanned it in 2012. It’s as if 4k blu-rays becoming popular was just lucky for Disney. so for them to go out of their way to do another restoration is unlikely.
I never said restoration. I don’t have that much hope lol. I was thinking more along the lines of them reusing the 2012 scans with a shiny new coat of paint.
Even that would require “effort” on Disney’s part. Which they’ve proved time and time again they aren’t willing to give. But we can still hope.
I think the reason for the low quality special edition effects is bc computers back then couldn’t render in 4k. Unless Disney updates them, they’re stuck in the resolution they were made in.
But yeah I noticed the same thing. Part of what makes me stick to D+77/80/83 is the 97 effects just look putrid in the 2019 versions (I prefer to watch oohteedee’s regrades of those versions when watching the OT).
I wouldn’t object to something like adding digital Dewbacks so much if they could look at all like they exist in the same plane of existence.
If that’s the case then why does that shot in 2011 blu-ray look so much better? and why do the foreground elements look so sharp and clear? it’s as if they re-rendered those elements but didn’t do anything to the background.

Here is the colour grading comparison clip i promised. Sorry that it is download only, but YouTube and Vimeo instantly blocked it so this is the only way i could share it.
The original 2020 Blu-Ray grading is really throwing out the new grade in some places ( especially skin tones because in the 2020 blu-ray they are very yellow/ orange or desaturated, which makes the new grade look more magenta or over saturated) so i added just the new grade to the end of the video so you can see what it really looks like.
It’s just over 1gb and about 17 minutes long
I’ll be posting again in the next couple of days with more detailed plans of what’s coming up with ROTJ:R & ANH:RHD.

Hey, Ady, will you release the ROTJ color corrected version similar to what you did with ANH?
Yes
😁😁😁😁

why the hell do the blu-rays look so bad? If they looked that good then it would have saved me years of work regrading them.
Yeah, same experience here man. They looked better on screen for some reason. Perhaps the version shipped out to cinemas is graded differently? the shot entering mos eisley is by far the worst one. the foreground characters look nice and sharp and so do the mice, but the background is like 360p.
previously lost media, This 1983 Swedish TV special / Movie / Motion Comic has been located by a Reddit user from the original Swedish artist: https://www.instagram.com/konstnaren_runnerstrom?igsh=d3ZseXNiaTYzM3Q2
Using the available material, the original version has been reconstructed and is now available on
YouTube, Mega, and Archive.org. Keep in mind the quality is quite low.

Now, I don’t think this counts as a bootleg, as it is somewhat of a reconstruction, and also, the channel that originally released this removed it due to its contract with the IP provider expiring.
Also side note, I’m not Swedish and don’t speak Swedish, so please don’t ask me to translate or provide subtitles.
I can’t get the link to open on my phone.

btw, great color ady!
Hello guys, thanks for the concern to the update of this project! This has unfortunately been in standstill yet again, as although I now have a very very powerful gaming/editing laptop that I can throw absolutely anything at and can render shots quickly, all of my assets and files from the fan-edit is in my old laptop, which I have yet to extract the data out of and transfer to the new laptop, which will take time and money that I have already depleted buying said new laptop.
I really want to finish this project as it’s been on standstill for about 6 years now (as I started this when I was in the 8th grade!) and atleast not make it a cancelled project and have something out. I know Adywan has gone alot longer with his, but the effort of his work shows as he really took his time with his edits, whereas mine has just been technical limitations and me growing up. This is still a hobby after all!
I hope to release this next year if time and money permits this (I’m currently in college), and if I don’t have to re-do all my edited shots again.
Hopefully I get to do way crazier projects than this, possibly doing film restoration, or doing another fan-edit from SW, who knows honestly lol!
To answer your questions:
@TGWNN: Yeah, I was not sure what I was saying when I wrote that as that was many months ago, and I will just consider using Hal9000’s edit anyway, as most of the SE changes are still jarring whether we like it or not, so atleast we can strike a balance (or walk the line) in the middle where it still doesnt stick out TOO much for it to be a problem, while still making it a cohesive experience to watch.
@G&G-Fan: I dont know where the original files for the preview videos went, and Streamable seems to have taken down the videos, and as I have mentioned earlier, I don’t really have access to the original files yet, so I’m awaiting that before I can make any tangible process of directly finishing this project.
Good news.
Fantastic news that you’ve been recovering well adywan.
Good to see your latest update, and your re-grading continues to look terrific as always.
My local cinema started showing a few re-releases this month (Original Trilogy, Prequel Trilogy, and Rogue One), so I braved taking a couple of my younger family members to see the current version of A NEW HOPE on the big screen for their first time viewing last week.
They should be sued under the Trades Description Act for using ‘1977’ in their advertising, but I knew going in that it would just be the latest ‘Special Edition’ version - so I had to suffer the likes of the Ronto’s butt, a jawa swinging from a Ronto, Greedo’s “Maclunkey!”, and Han standing on Jabba’s tail etc. as best I could. 😃
I hadn’t actually seen the latest ‘Disney’ version before, so the new silver ‘Lucasfilm’ logo at the beginning set my teeth on edge a little - while it suits the more ‘sombre’ mood of The Empire Strikes Back quite well, I’ll always prefer the colouful previous version to kick off Star Wars and Return Of The Jedi, due to it’s more ‘optimistic’ visually-interesting look. Just a minor thing in the scheme of things, however.
The kids thoroughly enjoyed the movie, and I was glad that they got to see and hear it on the big screen for maximum impact. The score and sound effects sounded terrific of course (If I ever happen to be watching a movie on my own, I like to listen through headphones for a similar ‘cinematic sound’, so as not to annoy my neighbours!), and now they are looking forward to seeing The Empire Strikes Back and Return Of The Jedi on the big screen next week also. They are in for a treat, but I’ll just have to suck up ‘Jedi Rocks’ too, I guess… 😃
glad you had fun.
