ROTJ 2011 Blu-Ray Color Correction And Restoration (RELEASED).
Time

2024 UPDATE:
Hey everyone, so I’ve recently rekindled my fascination for ROTJ, so I’ve decided to Re-up this project and do an all-new color correction.

Main Differences from Old Correction:
Final Render will be a full-quality file (20 GB or thereabouts) and this time it’ll be sourced from the original Blu-ray, which gives me an advantage at removing the crappy over-exposed highlights this film has, Which turned out to be kind of simple to do:

Thanks to the Blu-ray’s high bit-rate, I was able to get a good amount of detail back that was lost in the highlights. couldn’t do much about the shadows though. Anyways here’s a clip:

Just the Color Grade: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1BL-sieK703sOTsw8ufNVApsi7nsWPowS/view?usp=sharing
I will also be replacing out-of-focus shots with the 2019 4k Blu-ray.

Still have a few things to do, and a few kinks to iron out, but overall it’s almost done.
expect a release next week or thereabouts.
also, any thoughts on the grade would be very much appreciated.

Why make this available only for a limited time?

This like Disney putting movies “in the vault” just to build hype & demand back in the day, only without the existing demand, reputation for quality, name recognition, etc.

Plus, anyone who receives the files can just distribute them as soon as he says it’s no longer available.

Yes, anyone can, but they should not say “I created this preservation…” , but this is only for a limited time since I could accidentally delete the mp4 files while emptying device space, but if you manage to download the mp4 files, I will not be demanding you to delete it.

I think there might be some misunderstandings. Why can’t you just upload it to Google Drive or Mega to ensure it’s preserved indefinitely? How could it be accidentally deleted?

Thanks you everyone for your well Wishes, and i’m so sorry for your loss Ronster. I was rushed into hospital again on Sunday but i’m back home now and thankfully it wasn’t anything too major, although it does look like i will need another operation to insert another stent if the artery that caused Sundays emergency gets any worse. So i need to take it very slow now during the long recovery. But, thanks to the amazing work the NHS have done for me, for the most part i feel better than i have for over a decade. Looks like i’ve been having mini heart attacks for years now and this was the one that finally knocked me down.

I hope you get a quick recovery ady, and best of wishes. take it easy.

The explosion looks “fuller” if that makes sense – it’s a much better explosion than the original. One tiny thing that stood out though (which may be so small as to be deemed entirely irrelevant):
The two other TIE’s are moving forward towards the screen, yet the explosion seems to be locked into place; wouldn’t the explosion be steadily moving away from the camera?

yeah I know, but the original explosion was locked in place, so there isn’t much I can do I’m afraid.

I just realized this shot is flipped:
look at r2’s hologram thingy.

Nice catch! Chewies belt is flipped back to the correct shoulder after that, so it was just that one shot.

Although I kind of understand why they did that from an editing perspective.

yeah, hope Adywan sees this…

From Ady on Facebook:

“Hi Everyone.
Sorry for the lack of updates/ communication, but i haven’t been too well for a while. So, due to this, i have been unable to do any work on the PC. Feeling a little better now so i’ve restarted work on Revisited. Because of this , my plans for a mid year release of ANH:R HD is out of the window. Plus i will be adding shots to the battle of Yavin for a slightly extended TIE battle ( not as long as the SD version though), so this will add to the remaining shots left to be done. So, as i’ve lost a couple of months worth of worktime and adding these shots, i am unable to give you a ballpark figure of a release date for ANH. But i will keep you updated on what is left to do as i go along.”

oh, guess I missed that.

At the beginning of the movie, there’s a continuity error with two matte paintings that are meant to be the same hangar exterior, but from different angles.

See how there’s a hangar missing on the far right of the second shot that was in the first shot?

Never noticed that, wow keen eye.
