Any Star Wars TV stuff coming up?
Time
Got this off usenet.

"3 A.M. GIRLS/By Caroline Hedley
STAR Wars is to be turned into a TV series after creator George Lucas
agreed to complete his epic sci-fi fantasy.

The 100 episodes will fill in the missing years between 2005 prequel
Episode III Revenge of the Sith and original 1977 movie Episode IV
Star Wars. It will spark a multi-million pound bidding war between the
BBC and ITV.

Series producer Rick McCullum confirmed the TV version would go ahead.

Speaking at the Empire Film Awards in London he said: "We're very
excited - we just got confirmation George Lucas has committed himself
to writing the Star Wars TV series. I guess this is the news all fans
have been waiting to hear."

The movies are among the most popular ever made and tell the story of
the descent into evil of Jedi knight Anakin Skywalker and his
redemption by son Luke.

The first movie, Episode IV, has so far grossed £443million. It was
followed by Episode V, The Empire Strikes Back and VI, Return of the
Jedi.

Lucas waited nearly 20 years for special effects to improve before
producing the prequels, starring Hayden Christensen and Natalie
Portman.

In the final Star Wars prequel, Revenge Of The Sith, Anakin
(Christensen) joined the dark side to become Darth Vader.

The TV series will focus on the rise of Darth Vader's dark empire and
will feature original actor Anthony Daniels, who played dithering
droid C3P0.

None of the other cast, including Ewan McGregor in the prequels and
Carrie Fisher in the first three movies, will be involved.

Rick explained: "It'll all be new because the originals will all be
too old. But we will be using Anthony as C3P0 because there is such a
thing as loyalty."

100 episodes that is a lot of writing. I wonder if Lucas will change them before they hit reruns or syndication here in the US. If the BBC does get them, will we (in the US) get them all butchered up for commercials and with the stupid Logo, when they play on the SciFi channel? Maybe Viacom will get them for Showtime Questions Questions Questions.

The Gangs of New York - Yoshimi Edit (Released)
Time

FYI

Saw that a fan edit of the Gangs of New York up on the Pirate Bay.

Here is the description:

"Gangs of New York: The Yoshimi Edit

Gangs of New York had all the potential to be a kick ass movie. Violent, bloody, grimey and just plain ugly. It even had Daniel-Day Lewis stealing the show as the unforgettable villian. Yet it failed.

Was it Leonardo De Craprio, with his on/off laughable Irish accent? Was it the uneven direction? Was it the utterly useless character played by Cameron Diaz? Just what went wrong?

Well, Yoshimi has a theory… that the movie could have been much better without the character Jenny (Cameron Diaz). What a good theory it is! Although the character cannot be removed completely, she has been reduced to a minor player in the whole scheme of things. Hell, she doesn’t even make an appearance until just over the half-way point! It cuts nearly 13 minutes from the film.

Yoshimi did a pretty damn good job overall. Some cuts were a little rough, but unavoidable. Most cuts are completely unnoticable. Check out the scene where Bill tosses the axe into the air and lets it come down onto the table!

I’m told that the next Yoshimi Project is going to be Good Night, and Good Luck. Can’t wait to see what that one will be like!"

anchor bay has a very respectable history of restoring & releasing lots of obscure old movies, with great transfer quality (relatively, for such aging films) and bonus features. it's just that a company can't stay afloat on werner herzog & alec guinness box-sets, no matter how good the movies are. those evil dead discs are what's commonly referred to as a "cash cow" -- the evil dead profits pay for the cost of producing the other stuff.

Except for the Manhunter 2 disc set. They really screwed that one up.

Can you describe some details, please, to help me indentify it? What is the first picture/sentence you see/hear at the beginning and what is the last one? Does it fade into black with white letters 'video press pak' below?

Not sure if this is the exact beginning. It starts out with scenes from Aliens and a voice says "For over fifty years the sole survivor of the ill fated freighter the Nostromo drifted in space". The last thing is Ripley holding Newt and saying "Close your eyes baby" Then Red Lines come down over the scene like a venitian blind turning into a red box. The picture shrinks into a blue background then stops shrinking and holds while music from the movie plays on . The red graphic starts to peel up from the lower right corner then the words VIDEO PRESS PAK appear in large letters at the bottom. The picture fades to black.

Well I found something that might be of interest. It was a short promo "Video Press Pak" For Aliens. Interveiws with Sigourney Weaver, Stan Winston, James Cameron and Gale Ann Hurd. I recorded it off SelecTv an early Pay Tv Network. Quality is ok as we are talking early VHS but it is a bit better quality than the CBS Tape I had. Let me know if you want to look at it for the project..

I'd love to see a fan version that gives us the widescreen video of the DVD release along with the original soundtrack.

I would love to take this on but I have not been able to find a practical way to add a 2nd audio track to a dvd. I have 3 versions of this movie. The original VHS and both of the DVDs. If anyone could point me to a simple solution?

That said, I'm looking for a decent quality version of the Ray Parker, Jr music video. I snagged one from a GB fan site, but I'd rather not have to resort to using its pixilated goodness if I there's an actual source I can capture. If anyone can point me to a DVD, laserdisc, or even a pre-recorded VHS tape, it would be appreciated greatly.

I think I have this somewhere among my videotape collection. I will check later today and let you know

I really wish to see it after all these years. Can I send you a PM?
Also, can you explain to me the few details unknown to a guy from non-English speaking country? It is not a joke, I really do not know nothing about the TV channel. In the LD archives they mention both CBS and ABC abbreviations. What is the connection between these two?

ABC in the us is American Broadcasting Compay
in Australia it is the Australian Brodcasting Company

CBS is the Columbia Broadcasting Compay it was part of a family (Columbia Pictures Columbia Records/ Epic Records in the US now owned by SONY) CBS TV is owned by Viacom (Showtime/ MTV etc). Columbia had distribution rights with FOX for a while. the early home video versions of Star Wars were on CBS FOX VHS and Beta.
