Help Wanted: 'Who Framed Roger Rabbit?' Laserdisc Footage - censored scene

I talked with someone when they bought three different versions of Roger Rabbit. LD, VHS, and DVD. I then said that George Lucas was my enemy for not releasing the Star Wars trilogy, and he directed me to ot.com (which I've been a part of for a while now). Ring any bells, anyone? Anyway, I'm glad you guys are doing these restoration projects. If the studios refuse to release the movies in their true and complete, original, or best form, the fans are the only hope for film lovers. You'd think not releasing stuff goes against a positive business model for the businesses they're in. Evidently they should be in another business.
Cheers!

That would of been me. This forum is where I hang out. Glad to see you came over for a visit. I sure have been having Fun with those purchases.
Now... if only I could find a workprint Ha!

Grand Prix - a transfer from laserdsic to DVD (Released)

Suntech, I hate you for the simple fact that you've seen this movie on a big screen. Because it was Cinerama, from Hell's heart I stab at thee. Hmm, I might have to arrange my own big-screen showing some morning...

KHAN!!!

Well maybe if we all wrote Paul Allen and Warner Brothers and ask them to do a special screening to promote the release of the special 2 disk DVD, we could all meet at the CINERAMA in Seattle to experience it on the only remaining Super Cinerama Theatre in the world

I believe Grand Prix was shot in Ultra Panavison which was a 65mm print. I think the prints were blown up to 70MM. Ultra Panavision started out as MGM Camera 65 then in 1962 Panavision got the full rights and renamed it .

I love this movie. I saw it in CINERAMA back when I was a kid. The scene where the camera is inches off of the ground going 150mph then it gently lifts up into the sky looking down on the track. Makes your stomache all queasy, it was great. The best you can do nowadays is find some one with a HD Projector and 100 inch screen and you might see it in 1/100 th scale. It will be out on DVD real soon. Turner and Warner has it on the list for later this year.

Yes, but only if the cable company does not set the "Record Once Only" Flag.
It's a Motorola DCT6412 III via Firewire using CapDVHS emulating Panasonic DVHS deck on my pc.
It is hit or miss. There are some TV series that I used to be able to capture in HD right to my PC that I sometimes can't record. There is controversy on this and it is I have not kept up with all of it. I can do all of the SD programming just not all of the HD stuff.

At the moment, as far as i know, there are no dvr's that will output an anamorphic signal. The only boxes I know that do it are the Pioneer but I dunno if they have a DVR. The regular one does. Obviously you would't get 5.1 on that either...just 2.0.

So right now, you'll just have a better looking (hopefully) non-anamorphic disc.

MY HD DVR will do it, only to a HD Digital VHS recorder, with exceptions. The content can not be "Flagged" as "Record Once Only". My cable company sets that "Flag" on almost all HD content. Sometimes if I am lucky the flag is not set and I am able to record to my PC running "CapDVHS" a D-VHS emulator. The file can be converted to a DVD complient file that will output anamorphic video. I loose the 5.1 Dolby Digital audio though, as my DVD recording software converts it to 2 channel Dolby Digital and PCM during the transcoding. The process takes a lot of work and a long time so I only do it once and a while. The Last one I did was The Frighteners .

So of course I had to check out what's on this tape.

Anyone in LA have a PAL conversion VHS deck I could look at this on?

Guess I'm gonna put this tape back in the mail and send it to Babyhum to do his converting wonders on.

I can do it. Check your PM

The Big Box looked so Cool that I had to have it. Not sure if it has any thing on it that is not on Qaudrilogy or Legacy box sets. I like the Booklet that comes with it I can actually Read it. It sure looks nice on my shelf. I got that and The uncensored LD of Roger Rabbit. To quote Trotter in Let It Ride "I'm having a very good day".

Somehow I missed the fact there was a newer 2 disc release. I must have been abducted by aliens because I do not know how I missed that.
It seems that Disney redid the infamous scene on the 2nd DVD release by re-animating Jessica completely, covering her totaly. In the 1st Dvd they just put underwear on her. But you all knew that already, didn't you?

I'd like to get the laserdisc and sync up the audio from that since so many people complained...but I don't feel like re-buying it. If anyone can capture theirs using PCM...i'd be open to doing it.

Other than that, I have some personal projects I'm working on. Not sure which I'm going to tackle next. Maybe one of the Jaws discs since they won't be that difficult.

I'm a little lost. What do you need, The Audio from the Criterion LD ? I can Send it to you.

Any Star Wars TV stuff coming up?
Time
Got this off usenet.

"3 A.M. GIRLS/By Caroline Hedley
STAR Wars is to be turned into a TV series after creator George Lucas
agreed to complete his epic sci-fi fantasy.

The 100 episodes will fill in the missing years between 2005 prequel
Episode III Revenge of the Sith and original 1977 movie Episode IV
Star Wars. It will spark a multi-million pound bidding war between the
BBC and ITV.

Series producer Rick McCullum confirmed the TV version would go ahead.

Speaking at the Empire Film Awards in London he said: "We're very
excited - we just got confirmation George Lucas has committed himself
to writing the Star Wars TV series. I guess this is the news all fans
have been waiting to hear."

The movies are among the most popular ever made and tell the story of
the descent into evil of Jedi knight Anakin Skywalker and his
redemption by son Luke.

The first movie, Episode IV, has so far grossed £443million. It was
followed by Episode V, The Empire Strikes Back and VI, Return of the
Jedi.

Lucas waited nearly 20 years for special effects to improve before
producing the prequels, starring Hayden Christensen and Natalie
Portman.

In the final Star Wars prequel, Revenge Of The Sith, Anakin
(Christensen) joined the dark side to become Darth Vader.

The TV series will focus on the rise of Darth Vader's dark empire and
will feature original actor Anthony Daniels, who played dithering
droid C3P0.

None of the other cast, including Ewan McGregor in the prequels and
Carrie Fisher in the first three movies, will be involved.

Rick explained: "It'll all be new because the originals will all be
too old. But we will be using Anthony as C3P0 because there is such a
thing as loyalty."

100 episodes that is a lot of writing. I wonder if Lucas will change them before they hit reruns or syndication here in the US. If the BBC does get them, will we (in the US) get them all butchered up for commercials and with the stupid Logo, when they play on the SciFi channel? Maybe Viacom will get them for Showtime Questions Questions Questions.

The Gangs of New York - Yoshimi Edit (Released)
Time

FYI

Saw that a fan edit of the Gangs of New York up on the Pirate Bay.

Here is the description:

"Gangs of New York: The Yoshimi Edit

Gangs of New York had all the potential to be a kick ass movie. Violent, bloody, grimey and just plain ugly. It even had Daniel-Day Lewis stealing the show as the unforgettable villian. Yet it failed.

Was it Leonardo De Craprio, with his on/off laughable Irish accent? Was it the uneven direction? Was it the utterly useless character played by Cameron Diaz? Just what went wrong?

Well, Yoshimi has a theory… that the movie could have been much better without the character Jenny (Cameron Diaz). What a good theory it is! Although the character cannot be removed completely, she has been reduced to a minor player in the whole scheme of things. Hell, she doesn’t even make an appearance until just over the half-way point! It cuts nearly 13 minutes from the film.

Yoshimi did a pretty damn good job overall. Some cuts were a little rough, but unavoidable. Most cuts are completely unnoticable. Check out the scene where Bill tosses the axe into the air and lets it come down onto the table!

I’m told that the next Yoshimi Project is going to be Good Night, and Good Luck. Can’t wait to see what that one will be like!"

anchor bay has a very respectable history of restoring & releasing lots of obscure old movies, with great transfer quality (relatively, for such aging films) and bonus features. it's just that a company can't stay afloat on werner herzog & alec guinness box-sets, no matter how good the movies are. those evil dead discs are what's commonly referred to as a "cash cow" -- the evil dead profits pay for the cost of producing the other stuff.

Except for the Manhunter 2 disc set. They really screwed that one up.
