I agree, the heroic music is a bit at odds with Rey turning to the Dark side and it should be darker music. This piece from Samual Kim might work at 2min mark as it’s good mix of heroic and dark. But I would understand if you think it’s becoming to fanedit-y

Sorry to go off topic, but Nev with the TFA edit almost completed were you planning on doing you own take on TLJ as well or was this a one off edit?

After seeing what you’re doing here I just think the are areas in TLJ that could be edited to portray Rey moving further to the dark side that other editors haven’t attempted in TLJ.

Also, in the Poe Dameron Tie-In comics the First Order stormtroopers are shown to be using Jet Packs which Poe see them flying already. It was like Lucasfilm had forgotten about canon material they had already released. But unless your delving into every book and comic most ppl would have not known this. But some canon consistency would be nice.

This is a good compromise…I think it looks great.

I still think it would look cool to have the Sith eyes during the whole fight scene to show Rey is in dark side the whole time. However, it appears this is an unpopular opinion by the majority here.

If it’s not to much extra work I vote have the Sith eyes remain during the fight to show she was using the dark side during the whole fight with Kylo.

Yes, the more hints of Palpatine’s return the better I reckon. If you think there are more parts of the movie where a Palpatine hint could be dropped that would be cool. Eg When Kylo is communing with Vaders helmet. “I have been every voice inside your head”

I believe Poppa’s TLJ Rekindled has the most Palpatine foreshadowing in it.

As well as all of Hal’s Palpatine references you could also add the Palps “find me” on the radio that Kylo hears in the Crait base at the end of TLJ that Poppa added to add more foreshadowing so Palps doesn’t suddenly appear out of nowhere.

Also, just my own personal preferences if you are willing to add them in the edit:

• In TLJ, add Luke’s third lesson from the deleted scenes where Rey runs into the Caretaker nuns camp holding the lightsaber
• At the end of TLJ, instead of showing Rey moving the boulders from the cave (with only 2 days of training) have it appear as if Luke is using the force to remove the boulders and saving the resistance (maybe this is what kills him in the end).

The change list sounds good, were you planning to drop any hints of Palpatines return during the first 2 or 3 acts? Similar to Poppasketti’s TLJ Rekindled.

Well, after watching the BluRay version of the edit, Smudger has really outdone himself.

When watching the movie you can instantly tell it’s been edited by a pro. The love and attention to detail is real class and it really feels like you’re watching a true Star Wars movie. The way the transitions are implemented and it moves to the next episode is seamless.

If this had been released in cinemas as is, I probably would have went back and watched it two to three times.

It’s a shame we lost the Jawa scene but I understand why it had to be cut. It doesn’t really add to the overall story and Smudger was adamant on getting the edit to a proper movie length at 2.5 hours so I understand the sacrifice.

I highly recommend watching the edit even if you have seen Season 1 as it feels like a real sequel to ROTJ. Well done Smudger, you’re hard work has really created something awesome!

Also, I would love this edit to bring back 2 things from the original cut:

1. The shot of Han being thrown up in the air after he is told he will be “flying in no time” by the Imperial officer.
2. The machine gunner in the trenches that is killed on the planet Mimban. The main reason the crew come back for Han and Chewie is there missing the “muscle” for the heist job because of the machine gunners death so not sure why it was removed from the edit.

Any chance of adding the Stormtroopers coming out of the troop carriers as well to see how it looks.

The only issue I have with BFII footage in Mustafer are when the troop carriers are landing as it’s look very “gamey”. My preferred option would be TIEs flying over head and then the storm troopers disembarking from the troop carriers as that appears as movie footage. This would mean cutting out both the troop carriers landing and the interior shot of the troop carriers.

JEDIT: There’s a few points that would either be awkward cuts it having to cut out a fair bit of the duel. I’ll probably leave Finn there, just with one or two fewer exclamations if “RAAAAAYYYY”.

And I can’t even remember, did anyone ever find a non-soundtrack version of Duel if the Fates that sounded like a good fit for TROS?

The edit Dominic did with the this version of the Duel of the Fates on the DSII is my favorite so far. If it can be incorporated into the final release would be fantastic.

Unfortunately the music used comes in right on the heel of a bombastic conclusion to the Resistance theme, so it’s a shame it can’t be a bit more teasing and gradual as it comes in like the original scene’s music.

It’s still synced to the original, so it’s be easy to ditch in favor of the original.

I dunno what it is about TROS, I just feel really sorry for 3PO. Everyone seemed really extra nasty to him this episode. 100% didn’t earn the “One last look… at my friends!” line. It’s so being cut. 😃

After 3PO says “One last look… at my friends!” it would be cool to have a short montage of Luke, Han and Leia from the Original Trilogy. This would make is appear 3PO is accessing his memory banks of Luke, Han and Leia instead.
