DTS audio preservation .... UPDATE 07 May 2015 ... Work In Progress

So you know for a fact that the German BD also has the home video cut?

Yep!

And the web DL you refer to is the Vudu version that's 1.78:1, right?

Nope! It's 2.35:1

I know the German BD was opened up to 1.78, but I don't actually know if the Vudu version is opened or just cropped..

Actually the German BD is open matte, with more details on top and bottom, but less on the sides:

DTS audio preservation .... UPDATE 07 May 2015 ... Work In Progress
Time

I discovered that Battlefield Earth has basically (AFAIK) two cuts: theatrical and "home" - the fist is available as web download, the second on DVD and BD; so I tought to do an "extended" cut, as some scenes/shots are present in only one cut and not in the other or vice versa.

The Cinema DTS will be very precious to do it, as the TC web download is only in stereo... unless an HDTV with 5.1 audio track will be found - I searched a lot, and didn't find it... yet!

Escape From New York [spoRv] *BD-25 RELEASED*
Time

When I learned better to use a grain plate, I tested this method with EFNY too, and I noted that the quality is quite better with it applied, thing that I haven't done at the time of project release... grain helps to hide the small artifacts present in the HDTV source, without over processing - DNR in particular...

If all my other projects are OK, maybe there was some sort of problem during the authoring; as V1.1 will involve a complete new encoding, I hope compatibility problems will not arise with it...

Idea: a 'Bicentennial Man' preservation?
Time

This movie is still not on Blu-ray; yes, it’s available as web download, but the bitrate - as usual - is not so high, so overall quality is mediocre for an high def source…

The HDTV, altough it has a slightly higher bitrate than the WebDL, logo is present, with some macroblocking here and there… but, as I learned in the latest years, I found that merging two medium quality sources sometimes lead to obtain a better quality than each one used.

So, I thought to take the HDTV version, clean it a bit, use the WebDL for logo removal, then merge the two and add a grain plate, and… here you are the results:

What do you think? Does it worth a restoration, or the WebDL is good enough? Feedbacks, please!!!

The Dark Knight Trilogy - Theatrical Preservation. (* unfinished project *)
Time

You know, people is never happy enough! (^^,) but, at the end, this is HIS project and he should be what HE decide to do; but, as he wrote he "will consider do both", indeed, I just answered "good idea"... to me, one version is enough!

I know what you are talking about... many ask me a DVD version (for example for Halloween, where there is clearly stated that the project is using the retail DVD as color reference, hence the DVD is available for sale), an AVCHD version (where I clearly stated that, due to added grain plate, an high bitrate is mandatory so no AVCHD could be done without losing the grain structure), thousand other versions...

The released version IS the one I prefer... then, everyone is free to take it and do whatever he/she want!

Gladiator (Theatrical Cut) [spoRv] (Released)
Time

I'm following a lot the new fanres forum, and I stopped to work to any project due to several reasons - mainly because I have not an hd monitor, and the little old one I'm forced to use is quite impossible to calibrate properly... but this, with all the others, will be done for sure...

Indeed, I'm trying to find the fastest CPU I could put into my actual PC, or if it's the case to buy a brand "new" used, very powerful, new PC...

DTS track would be included but, if possible, I'd like to put the Cinema DTS.

The Good The Bad & The Ugly - 35MM IB Tech Preservation! (+ lots of info) (FINISHED)
Time

Now that I'm a year older, strange things come to my mind - Grampa Simpson may have better ideas, but I'm digressing...

OK, here you are my idea: even if 4K has green pushed too high, it has some quality, while Mondo is better but not perfect... what if... I take the best of both worlds? I took the film screenshot, regraded to both 4K and Mondo - the latter twice, once "as is", and once taking the levels from PC to TV - then I merged the regraded images and here you are the results:

film VS film ColourMatch'ed to 4K/Mondo "as is"
